Sometimes in life you learn something about yourself and it opens your eyes to a new perspective in which you see yourself. After 28/29 years, I found out I've got OCD and it's been a HUGE discovery for me. Looking back on past behaviour, so many things I do/did make much more sense.

I’m not sure how I have come across this but I have OCD too. It used to be quite bad, I used to have to touch things in certain orders before I could fall asleep. It’s not as bad now, I’m not sure if it’s actually gotten better or I have just learnt to live with it. It’s definitely helped me with my job and at uni so I’m thankful for that. I do still get bad days when I’m tired or run down. But for the most part it’s fine. Just thought I’d share, thanks for posting you experience. I’m sure it will help a lot of people! I too have had treatment for anxiety and depression which didn’t really help too much. I haven’t sought out anymore treatment.

It sounds like you're very similar to me! I used to have to arrange my bedroom in a certain way before I could fall asleep. And if I scratched one arm, I'd have to scratch the other in the same place to balance it out. And you're absolutely right regarding work. I run my own small business and there's times the OCD has definitely kicked my ass to getting a job done 😂

Obsessing over minute details is a fear of messing it up or doing it wrong. Hence the tyres and obsessing over which ones to get. Your lack of knowledge scares you into not making a choice. I know this feeling. I have ADHD so i get obsessed with certain things then become bored within weeks. Everytime i pick up a new habit like brushing my teeth every morning, something else will fall by the way-side like ill stop washing my face for example. Leaves me with a messy house and disorganised life.

My wife suffers from ADHD so everything you've mentioned is very relatable. And you're right, its this weird fear of failure, or making the wrong choice that really holds me back

this just came up on my recommended and i find myself relating to you. i'm 20 now and have suffered from OCD from a young age. i didn't know what OCD was until i was about 13/14, so I believed the intrusive thoughts were real because i didn't know what intrusive thoughts even were. it was a relief to find out that there was a reason i had these thoughts... it's a difficult thing. part of you knows that the thoughts aren't real, but the other part of you is compelled to "neutralise" or get rid of the thoughts. all the best to you 💗

You're absolutely right! You know the compulsions and thoughts aren't 'normal' or natural, but they're real to us! It can be a challenge to manage. Thank you for your support, take care :)

Stumbled across this randomly. A good explanation and glad you’ve found some clarity in life. I respect your mantra of leaning into the OCD to benefit yourself. Take care.

As i long as I remember, ever since i was a child av always had OCD though not crippling!`my OCD has always flared up whenever av heard depression;av always had depression after two years break but always been brought by life struggles. Now am happy that after giving my life to christ and surrendering myself to Holy Spirit ,things av been much easier than i anticipated.I can antest that my everyday life is no more subject to OCD,body dymorphia, depersonlization, anxiety and heart palpitation.I can testify that those vices have anihilated from life through the blood of Jesus Christ by works of Holy Spirit. I even forgot i used to have Ocd ,AV only remembered by way of running across your video... Welcome to Christ and works of Holy Spririt my friend!!

You're absolutely right, I find it much worse and harder to manage when stressed or depressed. Sounds like you're managing well and that's great to hear!

So glad you enjoyed watching :) and you're absolutely right, my OCD is about as low on the spectrum as is noticeable so I feel very fortunate! Lots with it have it MUCH worse

Not everyone thinks the same and everyone has their own quirks and features. These just happen to be mine, and if you're the same, you may have light OCD like me 🤷🏻‍♂️

For me, it's hard to know if it's only ADHD, or if I have OCD too. I have to ask my doctor next time I meet them.

You absolutely should 🙌🏻 the doctor I've been working with for the past 6 months is FANTASTIC. You just need to get the right one who cares 😅

I participate in a support group for partners of people who suffer from OCD (OCD Action). I have noticed that a few people find that the first therapist works for them, but most people need to experience two or three before they find the right one. The facilitator in our group has OCD and needed to experience five counsellors before finding the one that worked for her. It was difficult making the change the first time, admitting that it was not working and making the effort to find another therapist. But after that it was easier to make the change and find the right person. She will never be rid of OCD, but is now in a good place. In the meantime you might find the "OCD Stories" podcasts (available on spotify etc) and Katie D'Ath KZbin videos helpful.
