@pfsantos0074 жыл бұрын
@Keaos0 Pretty much. The Oil Changes are done from the top on a lot of Mercedes and they use a suction extractor. Some are air-assisted, some are strictly manual. The newer trannies drain from below so you don't need anything to drain because of gravity, but to fill them you need a pressure tank or fill system and adapters. I'm a DIY'er and found an video on youtube where you use a garden fertilizer sprayer and adapt it to fill the transmission. You just have to buy some clear hose and the adapters. Worked very well. Quick tip: On any of these bottom fill transmissions, you have to follow the procedure on filling and check the level at a specific temperature. Also be 100% certain to use the correct fluid with the proper specification. A lot of half assed jobs (pros and amateurs) cause issues after. Oh, and speaking of tools, another one is the clic-r plier to undo and do the hose clips on some German cars (FCA and others also).

As for the 2wd in winter part - as long as you have the G80, which you should have (with 3.73 gears) if you have the tow package, you should be fine. Here in NY I only used to use my 4wd when getting in and out of really snowed in parking spots haha, but for any regular driving the truck is heavy enough that with good tires and the G80 you're fine.

When you mentioned “trap door” I was hoping to see some cartel ingenuity done to the truck , my friend rebuilds transmissions and one day he got a call from a guy who bought a navigator from a police impound yard asking to check out a transmission, he said sure and they brought him the suv. He checked it out and the truck seemed like it only had one gear, he thought it was quite strange, considering that he couldn’t manually put it in any other gear , so he started to check pressure on the truck and it had no pressure on the test ports except for one, he thought well that’s odd, so he dropped the trans pan, what he saw shocked him, it had half a valve body and all the inside of the transmission was gutted other than a shaft running thru the transmission. He thought why would someone do this? Long story short , the police apparently found 4 million dollars worth of cocaine inside the gutted transmission and the vehicle was coming from Mexico up to Los Angeles when it got pulled over by chp. The only way they found it was the chp officer had his k9 with him. My friend never did rebuild the transmission he was too scared to even be touching it.

My only issues were parking on icy hilly streets or driveways in Newfoundland. It improved alot when I bought a new pair of rear snow tires to replace the mismatched all-seasons. Just do the tune up and see where you're at as is. If anything, I'd upgrade the fuel injectors, and the sparkplugs while it's on the dyno. Get a couple more pulls with the new plugs injectors, definitely change the air box out to a K&N cold air setup with the cone filter feeding into the supercharger... And if need be, swap out the pulley on the whipple supercharger and see what that does for you. If the supercharger is still laggy coming off the line, then look into a turbo or intercooled supercharger.

@legitstreetcars, I tow a lot of trailers and occasionally a broken car or two, and I also live in the Midwest. 2wd vs 4wd, my opinion: if you're always going to be on road and only maybe very occasionally have to deal with light snow and ice (aka, you can avoid heavy snow), 2wd will be fine with some grippy winter tires. I've towed with fwd, awd, 4wd, and rwd, anytime mud, a hill from a stop, or snow was involved I either had to not tow, reach for the awd/4wd button, or work harder to get out of it. So, if you can wait for better weather, 2wd, otherwise, 4wd or awd

All of that extra weight on the rear end from all of the rear glass and then the trailer weight, a good set of all terrain tires and I’ve never had a problem. I have had better luck with all terrain tire versus snow tires because of the depth of the snow we get at times as well as the slush we see. Up here we need tires with deeper tread than what’s typically on standard snow tires. Just get 4x4, plus boosted 4x4 launch’s. We are in the suburbs and need 4x4 every winter and we always use it. Nicer 4x4 like in our platinum have an auto mode that will slip the transfer case on turns and even turn it off so you don’t get crazy binding even in the dry on sharp turns. Works great and if you wanna lock it in 4hi or lo you can and it won’t slip the transfer case.

yea I have a 5.7 99 , in the north west Sea/tac they do use them for towing big boats and car haulers. Trucks are use like big toys and daily drivers, they use the suburbans to keep miles off their trucks and you can get everything you need for them cheap, easy to work on, reliable and you can get one for 1500 to 3000 (not your model) good hauler.

Great information always. The suburban sounds good...I know you will get it perfected!

That intro was spot on... The 65 is a decent transs. I put a Corvette servo in mine but these things are not fast at all they're too heavy to do anything other haul families.

Kenard also used to own a round nose Eddie Bauer expedition from way back in the day. Chameleon orange/ green paint , and full system in it on 22s. Local shop here in orlando built that expedition. I worked on it a few times.

1: I live in WI, so lots of snow. WRX and wife’s Madza (3) have snow tires (all tire rack.com ... their tests show 2WD+snows similar to 4WD+no-season!) and we love the gains from swapping wheels 2x per year! “All-season” really means “no season”! 2: builds can be fun, but that truck doesn’t necessarily HAVE to be a track-hawk. Tune it, and a legit 500HP should be sufficient “fun” for most people, as a work truck, etc. You have the 1000HP TA and the super sweet AMG wagon. A comparatively “mild” (Medium!) build isn’t necessary a problem...especially if you just sell it.

I live in Buffalo NY, and tow heavy loads often with my 2005 Silverado 2500hd 6.0l and I also snow plow with the truck.... when it comes to towing heavy loads and pushing snow i always shut overdrive off, when I'm towing on dry roads I'm in 2hi and when I'm plowing or towing in snow I use 4hi again with over drive off...... great video bra

that stretch of Devon is so much fun. Chicago ftw!

Definitely do a turbo setup on it with an intercooler. 4L80. E85. And do a paint correction. Get new LED headlights and tail lights. And clean the interior up

Did you check the air filter to see if it’s clean, maybe clean some sensors up, little bit of a tuneup new plugs etc. coolant flush, I also noticed your belt tensioner that was at the top seemed a little jumpy. Maybe disconnect the beltAnd see if it has the proper tension on it

Looking in that 4L65 reminds me of my first transmission rebuild. It was a 4R100 Ford F350 trany that I did earlier this year. It’s surprising how similar they look

With good tires, winter is not a problem. Some winter rated tires all the way around and you will do just fine.

2nd gen ram with a 5.9 just rebuild and beef trans motor will outlive most. Limited slip rear end with some good tires you can tow anything and makes good torque on the low side. I personally have never been stuck. You can add a blower if you do please.

Im from Chicago. 2wd is horrible for towing here typically. But tbh we only really need it in the winter. And sometimes in rainy muddy weather.

To answer your question on 2wd in the winter. I have a 4wd 2001 suburban (with a 4l60 and yes I’ve blown it up) I have blizzak tires and even though I don’t do much towing in the winter I barely ever need to put the truck into 4wd and spend most of the time just drive the truck in 2wd. For context I live in Minnesota so it gets pretty snowy hear during the winter😂.

The aluminum drive shaft came off the 2500hd gas trucks from that era. Both of my had them, but my Duramax same year doesn't have one.

Alex I would put a bigger motor with the turbo. I think it's just an issue with it being a 5.3 on a whipple. It was for looks more than actual get up and go.

Have a F350 SD I bought from a friend's dad's estate in Centra Oregon.. It is 4wd, has a Tru-Trac, 4.30 gear rear end, and on BFG All-Terrain TK02 tires. The only downside is that it is a V10, but for what I paid- I can't legitimately complain. Has Gibson headers, SPD Y-pipe kit, Gibson cat- back exhaust, has had the full chain timing set, replaced with Cloyes "Improved design" set, new oil pump, heads & MLS gaskets were fresh, Bilstein B5100 shocks, fuel pump, starter, AGM battery, AC compressor, full aluminum radiator, fan clutch, all pulleys replaced, alternator, brake rotors, calipers, hoses. Even has a Warn bumper & winch. Far beyond what I need, but even with the paint job, bed liner, & nav system it's getting I won't be in it $14k.

Considering my Blazer ZR-2 had the 4l60, this is fascinating to watch. You always put out excellent content.
