honestly, i am glad the giga wasnt THAT much of the big bad killer machine, because in the end, its just a slightly upscaled t-rex, not a mega murder clone monstrosity. jw3 spinosaur might be iconic, but also way too over the top. it pretty much behaved the same as the indominous which was specifically designed to be more aggressive. even if the giga wouldve been more aggressive, it still wouldve felt kindof impact lacking, because it was not designed to be the true antagonist. the baddies of the movie were the humans, which is quite relatable and exactly what i expected. it doesnt always have to be a new monster, so in the end im glad they didnt go for it

My biggest complaint about Dominion was the lack of a sense of imminent danger. I never believed there was a possibility that any named protagonist might die. This movie was weird. The issue I had with it was that they didn’t really have a villain, or obstacle in this movie so it just felt like watching bunch of random events happen rather than a coherent story. Dodgson wasn’t really a villain? I mean sure he did some scummy business practices but he wasn’t much of an obstacle. The giganotosaurus didn’t feel like a villain either since he appeared so late. In JP3 or Jurassic world, Spino and Indo were very clearly the obstacle and when those dinosaurs were defeated, you knew the movie was over. But for this film the ending was so unsatisfying because it didn’t really feel like they overcame anything if that makes any sense. This movie would have been so much better if they focused more on the giga and the challenges the survivors face trying to escape the park. The locust and maisie subplots felt to me as a total distraction and did absolutely nothing to the movie.

I think my biggest gripe with this movie was, they set up the whole scenario of dinosaurs being on the mainland in the last movie, just to have the entire second half of this movie to take place on essentially another island (in the mountains vs the ocean). We really only got one scene with dinosaurs reeking havoc within a populated area. Besides that, yes the locusts play along the line of a different company playing with the genetics technology and using it in different ways, I kinda just wish it was a little more creative than "big bugs", but that's just my preference and it still accomplished the storyline they were going with. I hope we get a director's version with more of the scenes they clearly cut.
@mauricioeinhorn56822 жыл бұрын
Perfect observations @HawkEye93 One of the complaints about the whole franchise was the fact they keep going back to those dangerous islands. Trevorrow tried to "solve" it by exploding Nublar...But what about Sorna and the other three "muertes"?! It's difficult to believe that they set up the whole dinos out of the island thing and ended with the Biosyn sanctuary (which is basicaly the same thing with rocks and snow as you wisely said). A globe trotting adventure would be a lot better. It could end in a contained space (something like the Lockwood manor) because I think these movies benefit from a labyrinthine set like the visitor's center/kitchen/control room from the first one.

The film does a very good job at explaining that humans and dinosaurs cannot coexist. Byosin Valley stood for dinosaurs in the world. We saw the beginning montage how dinosaurs are wrecking havoc all over the world. We saw in the film how humans are exploiting them as well. The end of the film montage shows nature actually finiding a way in integrating the dinos but not the humans. There is hope however, the little girl playing at the end of the film with the Moros Intrepidus. This scene echoes as well Malcolm's speech to the young generation at Byosin Valley.

The prologue would at least justify why these 2 animals can't be friends so omitting that worked against the film for sure. Speaking of the plot, I honestly think if they had left out the Giga entirely, brought back the Spino, and let Rexy 1v1 it the fans would have gone nuts. Imagine Grant's face if Dodgson said Spinosaurus. Maybe even give off a faint Kirby satellite phone jingle echoing in his head. His opinion on this is very spot on, and generally it’s what I and what I feel like many others have been thinking but not able to out into good enough words. It’s one of those things where the movie is a longer film, but funnily enough could have been even better if it was yet longer and had less of the content cut and moved around to fit a cinema release. This is because the movie tackled one of the hardest types of narratives to pull off (imo) in a movie with a fully and equally split narrative. But don’t get me wrong the team here did a fantastic job of trying to wrap of the stories of both of the trilogies’ casts and their individual narratives. It almost feels like it could have been broken up into a single season of a tv show with the way it was edited because you can tell they Laid out the plot points for each narrative and then had to figure out a way to go back and fourth between them that would fit the time constraints they had. If you do video games The Last of us 2 had this exact problem but far worse as it tried a three way narrative That’s what kinda gives the movie the feeling that things aren’t properly laid out in order as far as scenes go. The movie was still very good in my opinion, especially if you can see the intended plot layout under the editing In that initial experience I also recommend watching the prolog while in line for tickets until they release a directors cut.

Dominion is/ was promoted as the epic conclusion of the Jurassic era. Good movies are not about CGI spectacle but about strong story elements and meaning to inspire fans. Let's look at The Lost World, long driven scenes with purpose and integrity to support the plot, it's not all about Dinosaur spectacles, the fans want a cohesive story writing where protagonists lifes are at stake, there wasn't really something threatening about chased by dinosaurs and main characters survive everything despite the odds, Eddie was a likeable character and he got ripped apart, Robert Muldoon underestimated the Raptors as well.

When it comes to Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, I feel like both would’ve been better served as TV series that gave more time for different plot elements to develop. The messiness of Dominion specifically and another huge time jump between films forces painful exposition and plot elements are rushed. I liked a lot of the fan service stuff, but at times that reminded me of The Rise of Skywalker (a film I was not a fan of). At least JW Dominion got the fan service stuff mostly right.

Personally, I’m super bummed the Spinosaurus didn’t show up at all and the Rex family didn’t show up sooner (would’ve been cooler if they aided Rexy in that final battle). Also, the Dilo that Stan Winston made in 93 just looks so much cooler. It’s also a shame we didn’t spend more time with some of the dinosaurs and ultimately tried shoving too much into one film (like Rise of Skywalker).

The movie wasn’t the “epic conclusion” we wanted. The giga was just worse than indoraptor. Unlike every other Jurassic park/world movie out there, each Dino villain is shown for more than 3 minutes lmao. Giga was just here then dead. The battle was just too short and I would of loved it to be longer. More bashing, chomping, you know, like the Jurassic world fight! It had some good scenes, like the original trio, Dodgson returning and his death that referenced Dennis’s death back in 1993. It was a pretty good movie overall, but failed its potential.
@ryans4132 жыл бұрын
JP has the fight with the Raptors and T Rex. Not a very long sequence but it was done well. JP 2 gave use a good 15 minutes of a T Rex on the run in the United States and that was fun. JP 3 had the battle with the Spinosaurus. JW gave us a great long battle between the T Rex and Raptors and Indominus Rex. JW 2 last final fight was kinda bad but Dominions final fight was so stupid and rushed.
@jordynwilson52392 жыл бұрын
And the fact that the Giga's death feels unjustified, all throughout the movie it acts a normal animal, sleeping, showing dominance over Rexy, but it's given such a unnecessarily brutal death for what seemed like no reason, compare it to the other dinosaur villains like the Spinosaurus, Indominus Rex or the Scorpios Rex, those acted like monsters, the Indo and the Scorpios doing mass killing of dinosaurs, while the Giganotosaurus barely killed anything, all it did before the "big" fight scene was just say screw off to Rexy and sleep.

Actual Rexes lived roughly twenty years and even with proper care, she would still be old. I’ll give the film one point do showing rexy is old and can’t fight like the theri but used her (highly exaggerated) intelligence to kill giga. Jurassic world isn’t a documentary and has every right to show giga as an actual dinosaur villain and rexy as the hero, it was cute seeing the Dino’s at the end act peaceful but ironic how mosa LITERALLY KNOCKED DOWN A WHOLE SHIP AND DROWNED A BUNCH OF SAILORS then chillin’ with a mother and baby whale. Huh? What? What is that?

Dominion felt more like the universal studios theme park ride than an actual JP movie. Every dinosaur attack scene was with a different dinosaur that you never see again, nobody dies so there's no actual threat, and the big finale is just running to a helicopter to escape. It's also got all your favorite characters but don't worry, none of them die or get seriously injured because the ride has to maintain continuity with current and future films. Only characters introduced to a specific diorama are killed in that diorama, so that each set piece could be treated as its own 5 minute JP short. I don't know how to fix it though, since imo the issue is the lack of continuity from scene to scene. You could cut an entire scene and not miss anything important. That said, I thought the Malta scene was awesome. Everything that makes JW fun and different from JP can be seen there. You get sweet action scenes, cameos of fan favorite dinos, and actual deaths of named characters.

You're a more hardcore fan than even me And it was shocking to me that it "personally hurt" a lot of people when we come out and we're honest and say that the movie was messy and felt disrespectful to the franchise. Again, I loved the thero scene And that was easily the best scene in the entire movie, But what they did with the giga especially since they hyped it up so much, was just downright disrespectful and lazy. The whole movie felt like a tossed salad. I'm so glad that we have camp Cretaceous to look forward to because honestly I feel like there's more stakes in that than there was in this movie. That being said, I'm happy that so many people enjoyed it. Just because I'm disappointed in something doesn't mean I wish that on anybody else and I respect everybody else's opinion. I honestly thought you were going to say that you liked it and I was interested in hearing your perspective. But we appreciate you being honest And I'm definitely going to sub to your other channel. Dominion = Spy Movie (Dodson should have showed up), Fallen Kingdom = Horror Film, Jurassic World = Creature Feature (Frankenstein-Rex and The Birds). In my opinion, they all miss the mark as movies by trying to be homages of preexisting franchises. Which is ironic because the money is really in the merchandise and not in the attraction itself (A lesson of Dr. Ian Malcolm's speech. So there is a self-referential quality to these films by showing corporate interference with a final product. p.S. I swear that in Dominion there was a few references to Indiana Jones.

I just saw Jurassic World 3 yesterday. In preparation, I rewatched the other 5 movies in the series throughout the week. JW3 is the worst Jurassic movie yet for 2 reasons. 1 Despite having a massive cast of 11 main characters, Ian Malcolm is the only character that they did a good job with. He gets to be funny and well written. Owen seems robotic and uninterested in what’s going on around him (which is very disappointing as he’s my favorite character). Grant, Ellie, Claire, Maisie, and Blue don’t get to do anything and are just shoehorned in just for the sake of having them in the movie, which is a real shame considering Grant using the raptor larynx to communicate with Blue would have been cool. Having Owen and Blue team up against the bad guys would have been a lot of fun too, but instead Blue just waits in the woods. Dodgson is the lamest villain yet as he alternates between cringy nerd and loser having temper-tantrums. Henry Wu inexplicably isn’t a bad guy anymore so he doesn’t get his come up ons for all the bad things he’s done. The two new characters are lame clones of Owen & Malcolm making them redundant additions. This bogs the movie pacing down really bad. 2 Never before have the dinosaurs been so boring or irrelevant in this franchise. They’re never allowed to kill “good guys” so the tension is gone and you find yourself waiting for the dinosaur to leave so that the story can continue. Bizarrely, dinosaurs don’t play much into the story; the movie is about if they can stop the giant locusts from killing everyone through famine. I kind of like that idea, but the locusts don’t do anything and apparently can’t hurt any humans directly either. I was disappointed that the Spinosaurus didn’t come back. The dinosaurs that do show up come without build up and then just disappear forever.
@insanity42242 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on everything except for Ian Malcolm. I felt like he was a different character from a different movie. Did not seem genuinely intelligent at all and was a cliche’ earth warrior. In the first two movies he was smart and practical.
@stupiddinosaur12912 жыл бұрын
Something I hate is that Malcolm, or really anyone, didn't so much as acknowledge that Maisie was a clone which I thought would be a given. I also hated that Wu didn't die or even so much as face any consequences whatsoever. When he said "I need to fix a terrible mistake", it wasn't about, y'know, everything he's ever done, it's about this _new_ problem he made, which brings me to another point about this film - I cannot identify a theme. I thought it would be about facing the consequences of your actions, but nothing in the last movie seems to have affected anyone. It would've worked so well with the Atrociraptors attacking Owen which is literally his research coming back to bite him, but nothing else in the film supports it. Also, Fallen Kingdom is rendered completely pointless now. Lockwood's quest for "redemption" doesn't make sense because he didn't clone Maisie. It's even worse because Charlotte didn't decide to have Maisie until 2006/07, long after Hammond had already died, so why did they break up? And finally, the movie ends literally the same way as FK: voiceover of dinosaurs in our world telling us that we'll need to adapt instead of showing us how we have. This movie was so close to being great, and I agreed with everything you said here.
@orangepasta992 жыл бұрын
EXACTLY! My main complaint with this film is that it ended the same way fallen kingdom ended. For a movie that is SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT dinosaurs living with humans, it never addressed that problem and Instead focused on a completely different plot. ( I don’t want to spoil but if you’ve seen the movie you know what I’m talking about)
@rhetiq99892 жыл бұрын
It definitely feel like it was an unnecessary retcon to have Charlotte being alive all those time instead of what Fallen Kingdom set up, I thought the latter had a more interesting idea in setting up Maisie’s origins and I was hoping to see more of the consequences of that. It’s almost like in Rise of Skywalker where they tried to retcon things set up in Last Jedi only bcs it didn’t work there for fans and it was written by different guys with different ideas, but here they’re both written by Colin and somehow he was compelled to alter her origin and made it much less intriguing

I finally got to watch the movie all the way through. I've followed along with all of Klayton's videos, and I grew up with the JP movies. To say these movies have shaped me as a person is an understatement, it is this franchise that led me to actually seek more knowledge about and understand more about dinosaurs as they actually were, and I'm still seriously considering going into paleontology. Now, the reason I need to write a comment here is because I need to give my genuine opinion on Dominion, where it's not going to be spoiled for anyone who hasn't watched it, since they likely won't bother to watch it if they haven't, or they already have, just based on the video Klayton has posted here. Upon first viewing, I didn't even watch through the whole movie. In fact, I made it through the first 15 minutes, was called away to do something, and didn't return to the movie for a month. I was so uninterested with that first 15 minutes that it genuinely soured my want to return to it. Finally, I did, and I honestly can't say it was great. After I finally sat through the entire two and a half hour film, I came out of it with one single thought: That was messy. And messy it was. The whole film was so haphazardly thrown together, if not for the incredible shots in some cases, I would have believed it was a low-budget knock-off film. But, it's not, and as a finale to the franchise that shaped my childhood, and possibly my future as well, this movie was far, far away from what I had hoped for. It's worth mentioning too, that I was genuinely so excited for this movie to come out. I went into it with such high hopes, knowing that this was the big finish, the last of the franchise, and the movie that Trevorrow had stated was "the film [he] always wanted to make." What I got instead was a movie that felt like nothing more than a nostalgic cash-grab, with so many plot holes and issues, that pandered to its' audience with the dinosaurs and the characters, and spent the entire film talking about over-sized crickets instead. When you really peel away all that was made specifically to hit nostalgia triggers in the audience, you have this: Adopted clone child is stolen from her parents because Wu wants to use her special clone powers to solve a bug infestation on an island that happens to have a couple dinosaurs. It's literally nothing more than that, and as the grand finale to the Jurassic Park movies, it's such a far reach from where we started. From the masterfully written Jurassic Park, a story so well-fleshed out, with absolutely no reason to pander to or even really care about the audience, it tells a story of several people who are trapped on an island, after an employee puts the power grid down in an effort to sabotage the company. But this island isn't a typical island, the island is crawling with deadly genetically-engineered prehistoric creatures brought back from 65 million years of extinction: dinosaurs. The movie is action-packed, but has the heart and soul of a movie that was built up from scratch and given to the world not as a nostalgic cash-grab, but as a story about human nature, and plays with the consequences of "playing God." Dominion is nothing. I can't believe I could ever say this, but I genuinely can't stand this movie. Yes, it's a let-down, but it goes so much further than that. To go back to the pandering, too, I want to mention a few things that really stuck out to me. For one, the first time we see Dr. Sattler again, after so many years, is met with... Well, I guess a couple camera angles? It struck me as a bit odd too that she was wearing the same outfit that we first met her in. But then, oh, then she stands up in her truck and pulls off her sunglasses, and I honestly had to sit back and laugh. Absolutely no subtlety in her reappearance. But, that was nowhere near as bad as Grant's return. Dr. Grant instead is followed around, to (quite literally) center stage, and as he turns around what should we get but the Jurassic Park theme song suddenly swell. But, as I watched, I realized very VERY quickly that we didn't even get the theme song itself, but a loop of the same single part over and over until it breaks off because another character pops in. And Ian Malcolm, our beloved chaotician, has gotten the worst treatment out of all of the main three. It was so unemmersive to me, because not only did Malcolm simply not feel like malcolm anymore, but throughout the movie he was treated as if he was just simply stupid. Malcolm was and always will be one of my personal favorites, but they did Malcolm dirty. All of the other characters are just as bland and uninteresting as they've been in the last two entries. Maisy is a british girl who is a clone. Blah. Claire is a business-person turned animal-rights activist stereotype. Blah. Owen is just some random guy who was in the navy and found himself training raptors in JW, but oh, they go absolutely ham on that aspect. Every time you see him he has one hand up, defensive position. It genuinely feels like the main three from the JW trilogy had any tiny amount of character they might have had in the previous two entries, simplified down to a singular aspect of their personality and cranked up to 100. I couldn't find anyone in the entire movie even remotely interesting, and the movie itself certainly didn't give me any time to find an interest for them either. And the dinosaurs frankly sucked. Everything felt so mixed up and smashed together, and the only thing the entire movie was going for was a dinosaur showcase, because now we have a feathered Pyroraptor, a Therizinosaurus, a Dimetrodon, an Atrociraptor, and a Dreadnoughtus. In fact, in Jurassic World Dominion ALONE, there are 30 dinosaurs featured. I genuinely remember thinking, "Man, I miss when there were only six dinosaurs." The movie jumped from dinosaur to dinosaur in away that ruined any story there may have been, and took me, as the viewer, out of the experience entirely. To conclude, I hate Dominion. This movie is easily the worst in the franchise, and I genuinely hope one day the franchise will pick itself back up and start producing something, literally anything, with a single grain of the intelligence, the heart, and the passion for a good story above all else, that the first movie had. As is, what a terrible finale to a franchise. Note, please forgive me for my rambling, I just got off of a closing shift at work, which has me overtired and physically hurting, but I did my best to put my thoughts down in a way that makes some sense.

I completely agree with most of your points. Movie needed the prologue, and the jumping from locations while they established the narrative was draggy and didn’t flow very well. Being in my 30’s I have grown up with JP and JW I really appreciate this channel. Each movie prior to this one kept your attention and each scene change made sense even the San Diego scene in Lost World. Dominion had a lot of “that’s it” moments. The characters reminded me of Buzz Lighter in toy story 4. Dum and not knowing what to do even though in their previous movies each one had a part in saving the day. (Not their fault). And the “boss” who was scheming since JP 1 wasn’t that much of a bad guy. I And why wasn’t anyone hurrying it’s like everyone was trying to keep their heart rate down. I feel they need to do a redo. @storiesfromtheabyss98082 жыл бұрын
As a mega fan myself, I think the two biggest issues weren't necessarily the editing, but the plot and scripting unfortunately. The plot revolves way too much around the locust issue when the much more interesting story is the cohabitation of modern animals and prehistoric ones, which gets sidelined to a few really awesome shots at the beginning and end of the movie. The second big flaw was over-reliance on nostalgia to sell scenes or somewhat cheesy dialogue. Every time the OG cast is on screen they pump out the JP score and after the first time it's like, "Yeah I get it, these pumps of nostalgia aren't hitting anymore." and trying to homage way too many scenes from previous movies. I would've liked more references and links to previous movies rather than scenes that tried to replicate ones from previous films in the franchise. Like how many times do they do that hand in front of a dinosaur thing in this movie? It should have been just twice at the max, like why does Owen do that to a Carnotaurus and Allosaurus who he's likely never even worked with before? It just doesn't make any sense to me. That aside, I do still like the movie, it's just a major letdown on what could've been an absolute killer of a send off the the World series. The animatronics and set pieces are all fantastic and it has some of the most beautiful cinematography of any Jurassic Film to date. I'd seriously kill for some big portraits of some of the scenes from this movie.
@liamclarkson29022 жыл бұрын
The nostalgia thing, as much as I loved it, was also an issue for me. To me it felt this film was released for nostalgic reasons more than anything else cause nothing really got ‘wrapped up’ as far as I’m concerned they’re at the same place they were at, at the end of fallen kingdom. I don’t know it just seems like the film was about the characters (primarily Maisee Lockwood) and extremely large locusts whilst the Dinos were more like cameos than anything else.
@ryans4132 жыл бұрын
I think a better twist for Owen would be that Blue stops listening to Owen and maybe attacks him and Clair was forced to kill Blue then that cause a rift between the two and maybe Macy runs off to get away from the fighting and she gets brutally killed by a couple of dinosaurs that trample her then Owen goes to find Macy and he gets killed by a T Rex that steps on him and then Clair goes out to find Owen and get killed by a Triceratops then we wouldn’t have this boring movie

The first act was definitely a big issue, and pacing was too. Most of the scenes do not smoothly flow into each other. That, and the amount of “last second saves” is completely redundant because we know nobody in the group is going to die. They should have killed off Kayla to establish any sort of tension, because there’s barely any concern for a single character in the group. The raptors are introduced fast and thrown away just as fast. The shots and cinematography had a lot of good moments though. Another issue, with me personally, is how the final battle went down. Trexes are always losing badly in fights in these movies, and makes their own mascot look weak. The therizinosaurus had no reason to join the fight either, and they never clarify why it did. It would have been much more climactic to have Rexy defeat the Giga on her own by the skin of her teeth, and have her reestablish her place with the final fight of the trilogy

It took me a while to realize why I was so disappointed in dominion. Then it finally came to me, this series has gone from the folly of man attempting to control nature and man vs. nature survival to nature vs suburbia. The dinosaurs of dominion were only background characters while the plot just went on around them, and didn't play much part in the actual story. Also didn't like that they just did away with full sized dilos, and acted like the small one was an adult. Plus the tease in the cave with the sail in the water.

One of the biggest issues I had with this film on the whole was that they basically Nerfed Rexy extremely hard. They practically went all in on Jack Horner's theory about how T-rex was a scavenger, to the point that we don't really see the rex do any real form of hunting, and backs down to the Giga early on. This is presumably the SAME t-rex that fought the indominus rex 1v1 at first, and sure she needed help to ultimately win, but the bigger point was that she wouldn't normally back down from a fight, having the two be mostly evenly matched, perhaps slightly leaning in the Giga's favor at first might have played better into the climax where they have their real fight and Rexy comes back to win the fight with a tag team effort, much like she did with Blue in JW1. I honestly feel like several of these dinosaur scenes were undercut and had the tension cut down substantially. Each one of these films seems to have gotten less and less scary and thrilling than the first which is something I find problematic since the original books are far more graphic and gory, but these films are pandered more towards children now. The Netflix series I felt had more tension in it than Battle at Big Rock or Dominion did, which is really telling when even a kid's show feels like the stakes are higher, and that's with an all cast composed of Plot Armor! I Did have a lot I enjoyed about this movie, but my general thoughts as I walked away were that, it was "OK" it didn't really wow me that much, or surprise me in any deeper way, it didn't seem ground breaking or shocking, and the few new dinosaurs that were introduced seemed to be there for a flashing moment and then were gone the next. I did love the Therizenosaurus though :3 I guess my general thoughts there was that this felt very.... middle of the road safe path in the long run, and like a lot of it was meant to try and appease to the fans in ways that felt like they were trying to keep everyone happy and fix some potential "Past mistakes" See also the relationship between Ellie and Alan. I am generally happy with how it ended though, and IF this is the last movie in the franchise, it's not a strong note to go out on, but it could have been worse.

I liked it overall, but I did come out of it with mixed feelings. Particularly with the way that they handled the Rex and the Giga. Looking at the big picture I do think they made some good choices here: Explicitly place Giga as the biggest carnivore ever, including Spino. Have it bully Rex up until the end, then have Rex get mad and smash it ala the Hulk. Also I think it's actually good that they went back to depicting it as an actual animal like in the first two movies and not as a mustache-twirling villain like the Indos and the Spino. But why did Theri need to be at the final fight to take some of the credit for Giga's defeat? After 20+ years of disrespect this was basically their last chance to let Rex actually win 1v1 against another super heavyweight and they didn't take it. Also, if they are going to depict Giga as an actual animal then why were we led to believe that it would have a Joker-like personality? I feel like Giga's depiction would have been received better if we were just given accurate expectations. Regardless though, I did like the movie.

That’s the thing, even when the T.rex didn’t exactly kill the Indominus in the 2015 movie the former still held it’s own admirably, literally ragdolling the Indo before the Mosa came. It showed that the T.rex could still be a force of nature and something to be reckoned with. Dominion botches that up by just repeating that fight again with none of the stakes and the T.rex is once again portrayed as kinda wimpy against an animal that realistically it should have been equally matched with. EQUALLY MATCHED! Why? The Giga may have it’s size but what it doesn’t have is a bite force of several tons, a weapon that the Tyrannosaurus is well known for. None of the JW movies have shown the T.rex use that biteforce effectively. Fact is, the battle didn’t need the Therizinosaurus that already had a perfectly fine sequence before. All that the tag-team did was nerf the T.rex as something that we should able to take seriously as ”the king of the dinosaurs” especially since Dominion too lampshades it’s status as the poster child of the franchise. Seriously, WTF happened with the planning of this movie? I smell executive meddling.

Glad to hear your thoughts on the movie. I also left the theater sort of feeling empty inside. Which is really a shame since I consider the Jurassic franchise my favorite and have always been a super fan. I look forward to the extended cut too and maybe even fan edits. I likewise thought the pacing was really weird and that the dialogue could have been much smoother or more natural. I also wasn’t the fan of the way certain scenes were filmed, it just didn’t feel “Jurassic” to me but that’s more of a personal preference sort of thing. And I do think the film lacked definitive 1st, 2nd, and 3rd acts which made the ending of the movie sort of feel anticlimactic. And speaking of anticlimactic, I really thought they would have made Dodgson more evil or worthy of being killed by the end, but from how his character is portrayed in JP to how he appeared here, it was quite different and he really just kind of seemed odd and selfish and bit crooked. I dunno, just wasn’t my jam personally. The concepts were there, the characters were there, the dinosaurs were there, but the story was a big flop for me.

The movie still had good designs, at least for the Giga, but NOTHING else in this movie looked right, especially the dilophosaurus, they just didn’t look good compared to JP 1. Honestly, JP was my first movie, I was born in 1991, and ending the franchise the way they did didn't sit right with me. Sure, the movie had some answers to questions, and some bad ass scenes, but overall, I felt completely unattached leaving the theater. 2.5 hours of what I can only call "pussy footing around". Edit: hands down favorite parts were the Therizinosaur scenes and the Dilophosaurs. Impaled the damn giga. Only moment in the entire movie I went "woahhhh, holy shit"

@@Durmomo0 I agree, people are very indecisive; however, if we go back and follow the JURASSIC movie lineage, we can see that they spent some time in developing certain dinos to be scary: the T Rex when it breaks out of containment in the first film, the Raptors in the opening scenes and the kitchen scenes in the first film, the Spino continuously tracking down the people in the third film, the I Rex, etc etc. They didn’t really do that for the Giga.

Idk man, this movie really just wasn't what they sold it. This was meant to be so much grand and deep and from the trailers and teasers, it seemed to just made as an entire different movie, and what we got instead was just underwhelming and confusing. Too many plotlines, too little character development, really messed up 1st act and horribly passed second act. The list goes on. I'm glad to hear your thoughts as someone who I watched before the movie a lot. I feel people like me who were really following this movie before it came out are the ones that will be most disappointed.

I read another comment and I just can't stop laughing at it, so I'll share the laughs: My favorite part was when Chris pratt looked at rexy then at the camera and said "Now this really is a dominion" and rexy looked back and pratt, winked and they both in unison said "it's jurassin time" and just jurrassed all over everything, whole theater clapped for two weeks, I still can't hear through my eardrum it was an absolute scene in this movie, topped my kids birthdays and the day I got married, /10 but the absolute scene where the original guy was like " it's rexin time" when they first saw the trex, was also a scene in this movie, totally did not want a badass fight between the trex, spino and gigasaurus, the giant tickle chicken was enough especially when it said " it's tickle chickin' time" and just tickle chickened all over that one Dino. One of the movies ever made.

What I think is so telling about this movie was that 30 years ago, InGen was a science fiction genetics engineering company that did things that seemed incredible. But 30 years later, BioSyn is basically just the Monsanto Corporation if it was slightly more evil and given a Tesla or Google skin. I think it's a really poignant meta-commentary on how different our real world is from the world that Jurassic Park came out in.
@geronimo55372 жыл бұрын
The whole evil corperation thing was a good call back to the original JP. In fact biosyn wanting to own all seeds is a mirror of the real life Monsanto that actively leverages farmers into buying their seeds. Else the farmers lose everything. But I do like your comment its a very true perspective. Now evil comes in a smile with bright colors while owning every facet of you. Evil back then was more about playing with things we didnt understand. Which is largely true today given the continued pursuite of sentient ai and human robotics. But I remember in the late ninities it was said we were only ten or twelve years from the return of dinosaurs through the chicken. Yet the concept has practically died despite a great technology leap through that time. I still rather have dinosaurs over irobot.

1: *slightly less evil 2: What got Crichton interested in books like Jurassic Park and the criminally under rated Next was the leaps and bounds genetic engineering was making in the 70s and 80s. Like many things we are just applying something we've known about for a long time, Monsanto has been doing this shit since at least then with their suicide corn.

Wait a bit more and you will see a whole other deal of reality. You know what I speak of. It is already primed into your subconcious. There is no better way to open the minds of the lowly masses to things than to brainwash them into accepting it via the screen. Why'd anyone do that you ask? Because they know you'd kill them for what the want to do to you if they were coming at you with it unprepared. Much better to make people sit infront of a screen and program they pay for than to put them in cold iron sheckles.

The movie felt like I just watched the writer's brainstorming sessions for 2.5 hours. I would have loved to see these ideas for a longer series that could flesh them out and just be separate. maisie is such an interesting character but I came to see how humans and dinosaurs are gonna square off in the walmart parking lot but all I saw was Taken 4: Andy keeps doing that hand thing with the dinos.
@antoine67602 жыл бұрын
The part where they were in the lab and Meta was about to jump Owen and Maisie jumped in and did the hand thing was sooo cringe imo. They never established that she could do that and the hand thing is based on mutual respect and a bond with the animal and she was never around Meta a lot. Not in the same way that Owen was training Blue, Echo, Delta and Charlie. But yeah, this isnt like the T-rex rampaging through San Diego in TLW.

I also saw it twice and I enjoyed it much more the second time, the first time I think it was because it really wasn't what I expected. I expected much more exploration of "dinosaurs in the wild" and that the film would be about old cast being forced to confront their traumas. The black market sort of explored this, which was fun and I'd like to have seen more of. The second time, knowing what the actual plot was, I got to sit back and just enjoy it much more. It suffers from pacing and too many cuts which turns the middle act into "dino encounter" blitz, moving way too quickly between them. I still liked it, but wish I'd got a film exploring the consequences of them in the wild.

Honestly I agree with you on this one. I quite enjoyed fallen kingdom, that opening scene where the mosasaur eats the guy on the chopper sold me. I feel that movie set this one up well, but then dominion threw it all out the window and just went for the locust thing. I came to watch a movie where dinosaurs eat people in cool ways and got oh no the CEO of Apple has brought back prehistoric locusts that are causing a famine! They included a lot of dinosaurs just didn’t do anything with them.
@wildanimations2 жыл бұрын
exactly what i was thinking! I loved the dinosaurs and actors and all, but the whole point of Dominion was "dinosaurs actually ruling the world" not locusts. Like locusts arent even dinosaurs, prehistoric or not. The point of Jurassic World is dinosaurs, not giant bugs. that's my biggest problem.

I think alot of my thoughts closely align with you Klayton on this movie. I too have a bad taste in the first act where it just seemed rushed, but my real gripe is the loss of opportunity with so many quick introductions of new species to only be quickly disregarded. I kept thinking after I saw this movie why the first Jurassic park was so profound to me besides the obvious first of its kind and shell shock of seeing legit dinosaurs! To me, the first did a great job of introducing dinosaurs in a way that you got a relative immersion into them and because the movie was not so saturated with action that you could digest the moments more. I am a big JP/JW guy like most of us here, but I just left the movie last weekend with the thought that I dont know if I have it in me to see it a second time even if it was for free or on tv. I think if this could have been slowed down in terms of time in with the new dinos and allow for more concerns of general logistics to come to life during that journey instead of a quick sprint, I could have probably latched onto this one more. I can appreciate the content and what this brings, but for a three hour movie I wish they had cut 1/3 of the new material and drawn out more of the guts of the film.

Yeah, the movies have their good and bad side, but I personally just love all of them. And one thing that I hate about these movies, it's not the movies themselves, it's mainly because of the arrogant and hostile critics that watch these movies. They always expect Oscar like movies and then get upset with every single thing about it when it's nothing they had no thoughts on. Like, AngryJoe, who went into this movie already hating it and was unfair with it.

Klayton- THANK YOU for your real and honest opinion on this film. While there was so much in this movie while watching it that made me scratch my head or go “come on, way too cheesy” or “wait, but what about ___??” I still let myself get lost in it and enjoy the nostalgia and moments of the two generations coming together/interacting which is what I was most looking forward to anyways (I STILL wish Alan and Owen had more back and forth dialogue!). And I went home afterwards mostly satisfied but still couldn’t get over the cheesiness and anti-climactic-ness of so many things (especially Dodgson, the worst JP bad guy ever). But I went home and told everyone they should definitely go see it and rejoiced the closure it brought my 5 year old self when the first film came out. And then I woke up the next morning. I reflected of it and suddenly all the remaining things about the movie that I tried to ignore so as to fully embrace the moment and everything I just mentioned is all I could think about. I still want to see it a second time while it’s still in theatres, and I never wanted to be the guy bashing the new JP/JW film but there really was so much… disappointment and that was, well, disappointing haha. But the best few weeks have been filled with the movie being glorified and all those “but”’s being completely ignored and naysayers bashed for being haters. But you’re THE most respected and knowledgeable commentator on ALL things JP/JW in my humble opinion and it was a relief to hear that my doubts and disappointment weren’t imaginary. I am looking forward to the director’s cut of the film when it’s released on DVD and I do hope and pray for more JP/JW films which can help clarify or bandage some of the stuff that could’ve been better from Dominion. Thank you being all of us JP fans’ Alan Grant on the subject matter, and appreciate the time and effort you’ve put into your channel over the years, and thank you from me personally for bringing me a little peace with your review of this film 🙏🏻

I think the movie was much too safe... You knew none of the characters were in any danger. You know they were going to make it out alright in the end. Personally I would've been fine with a main character or two being killed off in a believable way...like when the giga is sitting there just ree-ing at 7 people and Malcolm tosses the flaming locust on a stick into its mouth. What if he did that and distracted the giga for the others to escape, except that Malcolm gets grabbed trying to catch up. A worthy sacrifice so to speak. It's like they were scared to take risks with their characters. It was boring.
