My Thoughts on Monster Hunter Stories 2 After 35 Hours (No Spoilers)

So I’ve been playing Monster Hunter Stories 2 Wings of Ruin over the last week or so, but I haven’t been able to finish it because I refuse to rush through the story, so this is as close as we’re getting to a review for now. I can’t wait to share more of this game with you guys.

The bit about the story sure sounds similar to Stories 1. Stories 1 had an appealing intro as well, but took a while to *really* take off after that. But, this being a monster taming game, I was always engaged by the mechanics of building my party, gathering mats or tracking down new monster eggs. These types of games often rely heavily on you deep-diving into the creature mechanics. Some more than others but Stories definitely is on the "more" side of things, at least for me. Can't wait to get my copy of the game now. It's gonna be great.

There are a few seconds load time between map and battle screen. The art style is amazing. Gameplay is great. Music is very good. The voice acting is excellent. This game top MH stories 1 in every aspects.

This is my game for the rest of the summer Edit: also, in the gameplay portion I think the game has a way of letting you know which monster is weak to which weapon before you even attack it by just looking at their design. If it has a ton of scales, a piercing weapon would do more damage, fur would be sword, and shells would be hammers. Just my opinion though

@@Rytom the bigger problem here is framing the cell shading as a negative point towards the graphics. The phrasing in the narration of the review is still wrong but the implication that the cell shading is somehow a negative is. Games with cell shading don’t need to have hyper realistic textures because that’s not what the art design is about.

Two things I'm wondering : - How hard is the game? - Can we control the human NPCs that fight with us, and how often a NPC fights with us? When I played the demo, I didn't like the fact that we couldn't control the NPC and that it was doing a lot of damages and used items. I felt like I had... not enough control over the fight, being only able to choose the actions of only 2 "fighters" of 4 in total

I loved the Pokémon games and the idea behind them. But never became obsessed like most of my friends. (Loved collecting the cards tho!) but this looks like my Monster collecting game to obsess over. I really wished that they would have kept the wing design for Ratha cause ((( Spoilors ahead for those who dont like to be spoilort and havent reached to the point in the story after you leave the Snow Area to go to the desserd area ))) after he unlocks his wings he basicly looks like 90% like a normal Rathalos even tho he's supose to be a special Rathalos and the only change he got is that his inner wing pattern is suppose to loock diffrent and the dark blue on his back is now black .... AND THATS IT ! Don't get me wrong i still love our sweet boy Ratha but it really is just disapointing that they dint do any kind of big change in his design . He would have looked 1000000% better , cooler & more special like a one of a kind Rathalos that hes suppose to be if the would have just kept the wings as they where in design . I really hope that if theyr gonna do a Monster Hunter Stories 3 that they make our Ratha way more noticable from other Rathalos and other Rathas

Not gonna lie I recently bought mh: stories for my android phone and managed about 20 hours before I gave up. Pre ordered stories 2 after spending about the same amount of time in the demo. I am absolutely in love with this game. The thrill of finding a new egg pattern and rummaging through a gold den nest while a monster sleeps, praying to rngesus that those rainbow particles show is something else. And gunlance is in it. Thanks for your coverage ruri I'm a father myself and I appreciate you taking your time to keep us entertained.

@@O1OO1O1I agree RNG isn't the best system of reward for a players hard work. It's mostly disapointing and frustrating. Unfortunately it's a system that MH as a series has adopted and it seems likely to stay in some shape or form in every title. As a monster Hunter fan in general I and I'm assuming most players will have a favourite monster from the series, the potential of obtaining that monster when you find a new egg with a pattern you don't recognise is always there. It's still RNG but it just felt a little less disappointing when you've got to jump through the extra hoop of opening the egg with your fingers crossed after finding it. I just liked the game RNG or not, sorry you didn't feel the same Bruce.

Good video, as per the norm. One thing I'd say is Barroth using speed makes sense. He doesn't hit overly hard (power) and he's a wrecking ball (so, not technical) and his choo-choo train/tea charge the he does is very fast!

To be honest, the attack types seem to be more determined by the monster's "body type" than anything else, e.g. Narga, Tigrex and Barrioth are all speed.

The animations are great but they look awful because of the terrible performance. I will be going for the pc version because the switch version is just bad imo

are you sure it was the fps that made you dizzy and not the camera movement they have there. I was also getting dizzy and weird but on the options i turned off the camera movement option and i stopped having that problem. FPS drops are also a problem there but the camera was the thing making me sick.

As long as you are enjoying the product who really gives a single hoot what language you prefer. Some things are better in the native languge while some things are better in English such as anime. Sometimes everyone speaking Japanese makes literally zero sense. Take attack on titan for example the dub is better and suits the world a lot more

The only example I (and I insist on the I) experience just one game who was imo better in english than japanese which is strange enough because the games is in tokyo... It's Persona 5 (royak or not). I find that Japanese voice actor release more of their voice and are more emotional in general. So yeah japanese is better IN MY EYES 95 % of the time, but sometimes another language can be incredible too or even better (I am French so sometime it is better in my language... For example Spiderman ps4 was incredible in french even though it is in new york and all...)

The use of regional accents to represent the different continents (Leftheria is Northern English, Mor Ardain is Scottish, Gormott is Welsh, etc.) was a really smart idea and makes the English dub a lot more interesting than the really average Japanese dub. However, there are some points where stuff doesn't match up in cutscenes because the voice actors weren't directed clearly enough. On the other hand, Torna the Golden Country has the regional accent detail AND has good cutscene direction.

I love this game. My only gripes are that our character relies on Navirou to carry the conversations and story (which is sometimes funny, others annoying and downright frustrating). I wish our protagonist had more personality than that, I never got into the empty personality avatar thing. My other gripe is Navirou's appearance... I could put up with his annoyance if he at least looked like the other felynes in the game, which are super cute, why is he the only deformed one?

That's sorta what makes the game unique. If we remove that and implement the generic RPG systems of various different skills to choose from, it'll make your monster randomly picking moves a pain. And if we were to control them all the time instead there's nothing separating the monster from your main character. It won't feel like a living creature, but rather an extension of your tools.

Since it Jrpg game I will do what I did with Scarlet Nexus and skip all the reviews and the videos about it until I finish the game first. and after I played the game for bit, my first impression about it is as follow: Story: silence main character = - points automatically Visual: on switch annoying frame rate drop but the animation is really good gameplay: this kind of game normally shine from mid to late game so is hard to tell now

I'm going through BotW finally now and it has PLENTY of framerate dips. I didn't hear about those years ago when it came out. People gunna hate what they gunna hate. Personally, I'm STOKED for Stories 2. If you play in handheld like me, then there's virtually no dips at all. Hori controller ftw.

Yeah, Breath of the Wild has a ton of frame drops. It's especially noticeable in Korok Forest, all the foliage and particles really take a toll. That said, I am not one to complain about framerate. It's not a deal breaker for me, and it's a turn based game so it's not like it will impact gameplay

I was kinda disappointed in the combat when I played the demo. It had a lot going on, but it always felt like there was one right answer for any given situation. That, combined with the fact that I only control 1.5 out of 4 party members made it feel like something that I have to do rather than something I get to do. I love the art style, and the trailers always grab me so I'm sure I'd like the story, but this might be one I try again a little later. Also, Navirou is the ugliest felyne I've ever seen 😅

This game makes me want Monster Hunter World Stories sooo much! I am not a fan of cartoony graphics. The game looks good. But it looks like every other Switch game.

Personally, I've really enjoyed seeing classic MH monsters with an anime twist - they're true to the originals just with a different art style.

Holy crap, no, Navirou's voice acting is fine, I dont have a problem with the actors performance. But i hate hate HATE his character. He has made a lot of the story almost insufferable for me. Characters will be talking about serious subject matters and then that THING will butt in SPEAKING FOR ME about the stupidest shit i could imagine. I want to feed this little freak to my yian garuga. I do not understand why anyone thinks having annoying mascot character speak for the MC is a good idea, it makes going through the story a SLOG sometimes. If my character just had theyre own voice and just told him to shut up every once in awhile, his character would be FINE, but because he speaks for me it makes me want to rip my hair out when he starts going on pointless tangents. Hes just like Paimon to me, he even sometimes says the whole, "Uhhh i dont really get it but ill do it anyway" thing that Paimon always does. I love this fucking game but that blasted spitball is a glaring scar for my experience. I hated him in the first game and somehow they made me hate him more.

I love the game but your partner ai sucks. Like you can change your personal monsties attacks if you have kinship built up. But the people they team you up with who often call you inexperienced fight like idiots. I'm trying to do trials right now and you have kill a thing in x amount of turns but my teammates absolutely refuse to use any attacks the monster is weak to. Even though we have fought the damn thing like a million times in the wild and in the story im the noob and they are the experienced rider dude.

Misprint. They meant digital version is about 15 gb
