Thank you, first Olympic analysis with which I agree. I guess people who think it was “boring” because of the ruleset don’t watch Grand Slams, Grand Prixs, etc.

I agree, think it got better as the players got bigger as the bigger players did less drops which were on the borderline of being a fake attack and I'd like the IJF to look at that when they tweak the the rules. I've seen lots of negativity around it but it mostly seems to be people suggesting it was all a lot of exciting 'back in my day'

I learned my judo with the BJC in the late 70s and have just come back into it as an old-timer after a 35 year break! To be honest, I find the modern rules have stiffled creativity... not being allowed to grab below the waist? Also, the loss of the lower scores of yuko and koka have taken away the referees discretion to award for a partially successful attack and led to the prevalence of false attacks and so the reliance on shidos to effect an advantage. I'm really disappointed with the direction that the sport has gone in and would now prefer to practice jujitsu, if only I could find a club in travelling distance. 😕

The current rule set is a joke abandoned does not create enjoyable effective judo Judo is sterile and devoid of martial tradition Judo is a martial art not just a mere sport The rule set should nuture creativity and individual expression in competition There is nothing wrong with having a competitive aspect to martial arts training but it is not the only aspect of studying a martial art, including judo Leg grabs ne waza ground fighting were original aspects of kodokan syllabus There is also kosen judo which elements could be added to Olympic judo in the USA there is a rule set called freestyle judo which ijf should consider adapting into Olympic judo I was entertained but think a more free and broader technique base should be allowed by 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles

Why does Olympic Judo have to be all those things? I agree competition is not the only element...there is so much more that can be learnt from Judo outside of competitive goals. I think Olympic Judo can be a piece of a mush bigger picture of what Judo offers and I don't think all of that extra stuff has to be included in the Olympics. I love Kosen Judo and would like to see more, but it has to start at a more local level first.

The problem is most dojos only teach the sport ijf version and nothing else and that is all most judoka learn and train for Which is why unless move is unsafe or dirty it should be allowed in rule set judo to me is a martial art first. And sport close second martial virtues should not be compromised

Teddy Riner is from Guadeloupe, which has been part of France for 400 years (longer than your country has existed probably) and whose inhabitants all have French ancestry in them.

I guess the US and the UK can also give back all the medals won by their non-white athletes...
