I'm with you 100% on the 10 out of 10 and with you 100% on an adaptation of the L.F.B. books. I would imagine the books are public domain and anyone could do it. That might be the reason nobody does it, fear that a big studio would get wind of the production and use their resources to beat them to the box office.

I looked it up. Anyone can do a wizard of Oz movie, but Dorothy, the tin man, the scarecrow, and cowardly lion are protected by copyright and the visual representation. So they'd have to be careful with the visual representation and characters... basically hire a group of copyright lawyers.
