I cant stress how much I appreciate your love and kindness to mice. It is so rewarding to raise them and see their personalities blossom. These enclosures you've made for them are absolutely breathtaking and it warms my heart to see them respected, unlike how most people view mice. I wish everyone saw them like you do. I rescued feeder mice, and I had to euthanize my last one late last year to cancer but I love watching your videos because it brings back fond memories of them ♡

This was so sweet it brought a tear to my eye. What a lovely way to start my morning 🙂. I remember when i was a little kid i used to go to a theme park in Spain called Tivoli World and it had a mouse room which i loved. Basically a raised glass enclosure took up an entire room and the set up inside was like a village, like a mini version of the theme park for all these little mice. I used to stand in there and watch them for ages. But these little homes are even more perfect 💖💙

Thank you so much for giving them plenty of room and activities, seemingly good food too. They seem so happy and this is just so refreshing to see. Male mice are wonderful, but be prepared for the smell and have a little money set aside just in case you decide you have to have him neutered. Of all the tame and cuddly mice I have right now two are female and five are male. This is how it seems to go, making male mice well worth keeping, you just have to be prepared to neuter them in case you find the smell too much to take or he turns out to be a bit too territorial about his cage.

Why those mice close their eyes when they eat. it's just so CUTE just can't stop watching them eat
@CreekValleyCritters4 жыл бұрын
I think they close them in pleasure and also maybe because they are so into their food, they feel a little anxious someone might steal it :) They close their eyes when they approach another mouse they are not sure about, especially if they are submissive to that mouse, so it might be related to that behavior.

I love your set up and congratulations on another artful and adorable video. I have a sadness. I had a heart rat that I was so super bonded with. I got her as a pinky with two others for that next level bond and used your videos on how to feed them with a paint brush and take care of them. They had long happy lives that I was very passionate about documenting. She has been gone for over a year and I’m still not over it. Very soon after her death I tried to fill the hole in my heart with more rats and now my life is more busy and I haven’t been able to form the same bond or feel the same way towards them. They are sweet so it must be me. Idk if you know how this feels or have any advice? I’ve been a fan for a while now and you were one of the first reasons I considered mice and then rats.
@CreekValleyCritters4 жыл бұрын
Always look forward, rarely behind. This is how I deal with the constant dying. Some hit you harder than others, but you cannot keep little short lifes if you do not find some way to deal with the constant loss. Making videos really helps me, this way they are never completely gone, a part of them gets to live on. If you are still grieving after a year, the death may be tied to something else in your life, e.g. a change or family situation, maybe she meant more than just a pet, she was somehow intricately interwoven with some other part of your life that you are now also grieving. As you get older, grief becomes an ever increasing companion. The only way to cope is not to dwell on it too much and find a way to always look forward, e.g. some goal, interest or hobby. The reason you cannot bond as closely with your current rats is only partly due to them not being hand raised, things change, you change, it will never be the same. Your life is different now and you have less time for pets. I felt this way for a while after Stuart and Matilda died. I did get new mice: Farley and Pippi, but it took a long time to bond with them because I thought mice who were not hand raised would never be the same as Stui and Mattie. But after a few months I started noticing Pippi and I saw that she too was special in her own way, just different from Stu and Matilda. Once I started paying attention and especially once I started trick training her, I ended up respecting and loving her almost as much, just differently. Pippi showed me that a mouse does not have to be hand raised to be wonderful and she got me started onto where I am now with my mice. Do not fret too much over how bonded you are with your current rats. Give them a good life, enjoy them as much as you can and do not expect things to be like they were with your hand raised rats. Once they are gone, decide if you want to continue keeping rats. Maybe you are at a point in your life where you would be happier pet free or with another species. Things change, go with the flow of things.
@jessthefigment42224 жыл бұрын
CreekValleyCritters thank you for your insightful response. I think looking towards the future will help me reinvigorate. I’v got plans to pimp my pet space and I think having some open concept free roam spaces would be really great for training. Thank you for sharing your awesome space that inspires me.
@CreekValleyCritters4 жыл бұрын
@@jessthefigment4222 I have kept rats in open concept cages and it can work as a permanent home for them, just not as reliably as with mice. The safest is a cage with a door as their permanent home and then open concept playgrounds in a rodent proof room. A fun thing to aim for and with open concept areas, your enjoyment of them will increase ten fold :) They are not that hard to build, just need some basic carpentry skills and tools and a lot of patience. Make sure you seal the wood with a non-toxic waterbased sealer and reinforce potential chew spots with metal plates. When I do the next phase of cage building, I will be adding aluminium to all edges and vinyl or plastic to the floors and other popular chewing spots. I used to never have such an issue with chewing, but the Percies are incorrigible :P

My aim is to get a setup like this. The pet shop sold me an exoterra 30x30x30cm cube for 3 mice. After some research I realised that was not an okay size, my three girls are now in a 80cmx50x30 tank which is far better, but no way near as good as that setup!

I swear the only con of owning mice is how much they go to the bathroom and how messy they are😂 other than that they are literally perfect and it’s not even much of a con because it’s not really a big deal
@CreekValleyCritters4 жыл бұрын
All animals tend to do that lol especially high energy little rodents. Female and neutered male mice are not too bad, but un-neutered male mice are very messy since they are so into marking territory. Overall though I find mice (except for un-neutered males) cleaner and more odor free than rats, guinea pigs and rabbits, mostly just because they are smaller and therefor produce less volume of waste. Hamsters though are in general cleaner than mice, but, at least for me, not near as much fun.
