Still watching but stopped…I was looking for any newer editions of that manual, checked book depository and a newer version from Collins was there, so looked for that on Amazon and found this ” The Complete Artist's Manual: The Definitive Guide to Painting and Drawing Paperback - Illustrated, February 18, 2014” for $30

I'm a book worm too and have a pile of art books. Some are just flat out inspirational. One book that literally made that light bulb go iff in my head on watercolor, pigment properties, aerial perspective , depth is Incredible Light and Texture, by watercolor artist, James Toogood. The next is Glorious Garden Flowers in Watercolor, by Susan Harrison-Tustain. I have lots of books but those two are magnificent. I learned so much! I was so amazed by Susan Harrison-Tustain that I ended up taking her 5 day work shop. She traveled to the US from New Zealand. Thanks so much for sharing!

That Colored Pencil Painting Bible was recommended to me too on Amazon when I was searching how to books. I have not needed to buy any other book on colored pencils. So glad I chose that one out of alllllll the colored pencil books out there. You literally need no other.

Great list! I can absolutely recommend Draw Like a Boss as a book that teaches drawing in a fun and unique way. It's a hidden gem.

Suggestion: "Inside the Painter's Studio" by Joe Fig - Not one you need on your shelf, but one to get from your library to gaze through. Twelve full-time artists (five of them women) discuss how and why they created particular work environments and how they use them. With photographs. Not a Super Artists' Gorgeous Studios approach - there's grunge and disorder and make-shift arrangements as well as clever DIYs and frank talk about adapting space for changing needs. Found it reassuring as well as inspiring as my work was being driven by my cramped, rather apologetic, space for art (must hide all signs of it!). I will never look at walls the same way again. And neither will my landlord - LOL.

Last year my sister gave me an art book called The River Flows, Watercolors of the American West. Past and contemporary watercolor artists. Wonderful book.

Oh my God!!! That's awesome books!!!! I didn't know you love read! I don't like it so much, BUT, if is an interesting theme I read it!!! Because I love to learn, always! Amazing and thoughtful list, three are going on my wish list. Yes to the art history books. I also adore books but in my collection the ones that I find the most aesthetically pleasing and well planned are on botanical art, Taschen’s A Garden Eden and Billy Showell’s Botanical Painting in Watercolour are gorgeous and inspiring for anyone who loves botanical art

25:20 Her materials, luxarchival sanded paper, powder blender, are not available outside the US, unfortunately. 27:32 the Nickelsen portraiture book is on it's way to my desktop.

The Brush and Pencil products are also offered at Dick Blick and I'm pretty sure Blick ships internationally! I'm not sure about the Brush and Pencil website itself, but you should be able to get them through Blick. The portraiture book is amazing too, I'm sure you will love it!

*just an observation but the artist health hazard manual would be very useful if it were formatted in large print and in a set of spiral bound topic related volumes that could easily be cross referenced... bought the colored pencil bible to send to my son (that i found used on Abebooks)...have what i think is a pretty eclectic library of art related topics and references such as a lot of Dover Publication collections of engravings and illustrations that i use for hands on physical collage...several on pen and ink techniques and also have the remarkable Tao of Watercolor by Jeanne Carbonetti (also found on Abebooks (or thriftbooks)...have some old North Light Book Club books as well that are still very nice...gave a few away over the years to my artist inclined cousin so they all have good homes...when i find a technique that looks interesting or results in an exciting new texture i'll investigate it and then learn how to replicate it as best as my abilities will allow*

@@CautionArtistatPlay *that's how many artist stay broke...or at least a contributing factor* *have you addressed the subject of ai art?... i find it interesting and have generated some neat results, i still view mostly as a pre vis tool when you have a lot of ideas bouncing around in your head very quickly and need to get them recorded in some visible form to prevent forgetting them (not that such things ever happen with artists (rolls eyes) and as a means of dealing with prolonged or persistent art block...which also never happens)*

I haven't addressed it yet. Mainly because I'm not sure how I feel about AI art, I'm still kind of taking it all in. I can see the appeal for some when it comes to using it for inspiration, but I haven't really had much interest in trying it myself. I'm not a fan of the programs using copyrighted images, though.

I'm sorry, unfortunately I don't know much about the animation world. It's not a career path that I have decided to pursue, so I don't know the ins and outs of what it takes to break through in that particular career path. I'm sure you can learn a lot from books and online, but I don't know if Disney or other animation companies require their animators to have a formal education or not. There are professional animators that do have KZbin channels that would probably be able to answer this question better than I can. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best of luck in your future career!
