Yes, please do a weekly cleaning video! Also, could you do a "clean with me" or a "how to" series on cleaning super dirty things (nasty tile shower, caked on hard water buildup on glass shower door, that black hard water ring in the toilet, thick greasy stovetop, etc.) using examples at other people's houses? I've been watching this channel since 2016 and have learned everything I know about cleaning my home. Thank you for everything you guys do!

@@user00616 I remember reading that wd-40 works on hard water crud on your shower doors. I personally swear by scrubbing bubbles on stuff that is hard to scrub off a surface. I've gotten (literally) 20 year old ick off the walls of the house I inherited with scrubbing bubbles.

1) stop apologizing to others about your house’s state of cleanliness (makes them feel uncomfortable). 2) PTT (know your products, tools, and techniques before starting a task). 3) think “less is more.” Also, be mindful of what you have (is it really useful enough to be in your home). 4) try to layer multiple tasks by doing manual things WHILE the automatic things are happening. Pretreat with your cleaning products (time saver). 5) create routines and schedule things if u know you’ll miss em. 6) clean as you cook (“messes are magnetic”). 7) use others help. Positively talk to family members by asking what they are best at. 8) don’t hang onto things u literally know u don’t need. “Look at ur stuff with fresh eyes.” 9) fill ur hands! When u leave a room, fill ur hands as well (cleaning as you go). 10) tweak your expectations: do what u can, but be realistic. You guys are so nice in the comments ☺️

Yes to the weekly routine video. I’d love to see a monthly routine video too. Melissa, I found your videos in the beginning of this year and you have no idea how much it has helped me with cleaning my home. I just didn’t know how to clean. I disliked cleaning coz I didn’t know how or what to clean and I always admired clean homes. I saw your bathroom cleaning video and cleaned my bathroom immediately. I saw your bedroom cleaning video and did that immediately. I watched your car cleaning video and got started on that. You really have showed me how to clean. A weekly and a monthly routine will be great so that I can stay on top of cleaning and know the frequency with which I need to clean around the house. Thank you thank you. You are my cleaning savior.

I always apologise when people come over, and they always say “Don’t apologise, I came here to see you, not your house!” And I’ve also found that apologising then brings the attention to the mess when the visitor wouldn’t haven’t otherwise notice it.

Cleaning as you go along makes life so much easier. I try to wash dishes while cooking, the only thing left would be the pots/pans and stove. I keep a spray bottle with bleach and other shower cleaners in the bathroom. Usually spray the tub and plastic shower curtain after each shower. Then deep clean on the weekends or every other weekend due to my schedule. Bathroom sink is wiped down after each use. Also I make sure my kitchen sink and kitchen is clean at nights, floor swept counters clean fridge wipe down. Floors usually moped every other week. I say all of this to say that it pays to keep a clean and tidy home. Yes life happens but when you go to a hotel you rate the cleanliness of the room so why not place your home, your sanctuary with the same expectations. #loveacleanspace. Great video Melissa.

Great video! Great tips! I’ve been married to a hoarder for 38 years; he doesn’t even see filth. But, since downsizing a year ago, I’ve put my “ foot down” and vowed to never live in that type of environment again. This meant many LOUD arguments have ensued, as I insisted on keeping our house tidy. But, strangely enough, he’s starting to keep his space neater , and I heard him admit to a neighbor that he kind of likes walking into a clutter-free house! And, to answer your question, I’d rate my current home a 7-8; same as you... ( I wish I did this years ago, as it may have helped my grown children be neater. I hope it’s not too late for them to learn.)

I would love to see a weekly cleaning video! My home, as a whole is somewhere between a 4-6 right now. However, we did a major declutter this summer in our master bedroom and I now feel like it is at an 8-9. I am now working in the living room. I work full time as well as help my mom often. My father has passed away, I have no siblings and she has health issues. In the past, I’ve set huge goals and failed. So, for 2020, my goal is to work at least 30 minutes a day decluttering/organizing, etc. until I get the job done. I realize it is only January 04, but it is amazing how much I’ve gotten done in the two hours allotted.

This is really helpful. I've started to ensure that I always have something in my hands whenever I'm moving from room to room; seems like an insignificant thing, but holy crap it makes a huge difference in the long run. It's second nature to very quickly take a second or two to scan the room and pick out at least one thing that I know I can put away properly. I'm also really particular about cleaning while I cook...it's part of the whole experience for me, it's really satisfying to know I have a minute to wash a pan while something cooks and leave everything tidier than when I started.

Growing up my mom would tell us... in Spanish "limpiar sobre lo limpio" or "clean over clean" She never did a "whole day or spent any hours cleaning". Meaning she never waited for things to get dirty or unorganized. She was too busy to let the house work get out of hand so instead she did a little every day and enlisted everyone in the home... Our house was always clean and tidy. People would come over and say how did you know we were coming? She didn't know. She didn't have to stressed over the house work.

I actually had made a giant checklist of all cleaning tasks as well as Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Deep Cleaning routines right before I found your channel. I’d love to see how they line up. Also, I’ve got a couple requests. Do you have anything on how to clean a toilet tank (not the bowl, but inside the tank in the back)? And, do you have any tips on tight spaces like between the outside of the toilet tank and the wall (it’s too tight for my fingers). Also also, do you have anything for air vents? I was wondering if you could wash the vent covers with all-purpose cleaner or a solution similar to the stove vent and then possibly vacuum a bit into the vent itself. Just curious, especially since we have a dog. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and skills! PS: It’s kinda weird, but I got super excited when I went shopping today and made several of your DIY recipes. As an extra bonus, while decluttering over the past couple weeks, I found a bottle of tea tree oil I didn’t know we had. Now, my house will be clean AND smell great! I would say my house is about a 6 at any given time. I'm a mom of 4 boys ages 10,8,7,1 so I have come to terms that my house will be dirty but I still try to keep it clean as possible

Yes to weekly cleaning videos. And monthly/deep cleaning. My house ranges from 5 to an 8 depending on which child is home. Last year I pledged not to let clutter control me and my “word” this year is SIMPLIFY. I’m working on 30 of clutter thrown into boxes when we moved 5 years ago. Some boxes have not been opened yet. My goal is one box a week after my cleaning. Boxes are in the attic.

I'd give my home a seven clutter-wise and an eight for cleanliness.

I just saw this after being home for 2 months from cancer surgery. I think my house is about a 5 because the dishes are stacked on the counter, the family room and living rooms are basically clutter free, but my bedroom and den are FULL of clutter (medical supplies and piles of mail) from 3 months ago. I am working on all of this today and will be watching your spring cleaning video while I'm decluttering/tidying my den.

I have a question: So say someone uses hairspray... on their hair. After spraying daily, excess build up starts to form on a wall. Any suggestions on how to clean hairspray off wall without Mark's or smudges??

Hairstylist here 🙋♀️ most hairspray are water soluble. I just use dish soap and warm water on a microfiber cloth and it will come right off after a few pass overs.

I use an enzyme type cleaner. Spray or wipe in on the hair spray, wait a couple of minutes and it comes off. I use an plder brand called Quick n Brite. It works great. www.amazon.com/Quick-Brite-00032-Purpose-Cleaning/dp/B001F893OA?th=1

My issue with ‘being ruthless’ with items in my home is how do I dispose of certain things? An old lamp, an old duvet, pillows I’m not using, old dirty rugs???? I don’t want to add to the mountain of waste.
@pepito-pn8wz4 жыл бұрын
Hi, you can search online for ways to recycle/donate in your area. And old lamp can be recycle like electronic, animak shelters love old duvet and pillows (wash them first or ask the shelter how they prefer). Maybe some items will be more difficult, but its important to not produce waste. Hope its helps :)
@rosemarycornwall51624 жыл бұрын
I think about this too. I recycle, donate etc where I can but have to accept that some stuff will go into land fill with an apology to our planet and a resolve to do better. I try to buy and use less plastic and general stuff, less stuff means less use of energy and product to clean....motto for the year is 'quality over quantity in all things'. I think that initially you will have to add some things to the waste mountain but like me, resolve to improve. Rose x
@rosemarycornwall51624 жыл бұрын
Marian I do understand you are talking about used up items not 'stuff' per se but as extra food for thought, I was also interested in the concept of 'unbuying'. That is intentionally getting rid of things with more effort than just donating to a charity shop/thrift store. Unless it's some really nice things then stuffing your stuff in a bag and giving to the thrift shop doesn't really teach you anything about not buying stuff in the first place it just moves the 'problem' onto someone else. I heard about this on 'a small wardrobe' channel. It has certainly made me think. I wonder what proportion of donations will untimely end up in land fill anyway. If you put stuff in yourself you feel the pain. It's quite a dilemma isn't it? Best wishes Rose (UK)

I try my best to keep my house clean, so that I don't feel that need to apologise if someone comes to my place (usually brought by my husband). I would say that I manage to keep it at around an 8. I am trying to make it better. I grew up with a housekeeper and my sisters and I didn't really learn the principles of keeping a house clean. When we didn't have our housekeeper anymore, the house became a huge mess and I shiver just thinking about that time. I want a clean house and a clutter free life.
