I do this too to justify my purchasing more expensive nail polishes. I look at it from the view that I am able to use a polish multiple times vs just once. But that's just me since I never get my nails professionally done. Like you said, there's so many different/unique polishes to buy that wouldn't be available at salons.

After leaving the nursing field for eight years, one of the first things I did was throw out all my nail polish and makeup. I was super happy to see that from the six brands in the thumbnail I had four of those brands in my limited collection. 2020 was my breakout into nail polish! Like I’ve been painting them for years but this year I’ve really done a lot of experimenting and my collection has exploded! For 2020 though here are my tops! Enchanted polish ‘cranberry forest’, easily one of my tops reds just ever. Starrily ‘Jupiter’, the whole planets collection is awesome but this one is my fave. Zoya ‘Eunice’ for same reasons you covered! Cuccio ‘brownie points’. I love this whole collection but I’ve worn this one the most! ILNP ‘eclipse’. ILNP has become a favorite brand of mine and I can’t wait to get even more of their polishes!

Also, I like the idea of compartmentalizing and separating main brands from the indies: makes it easier for those who are more partial to this or that category. Red nail polish is very flattering on you! It especially pairs well when you've dyed your hair red. For me, I find that I'm bolder and have more energy in general when I'm wearing red nail polish. Tons of great shades, but I find a good fallback is OPI Big Apple Red.

I started to lol when you mentioned, “The Rainbow Fish”! I read that book to my grandchildren all the time. It’s one of there favorites. Since the pandemic started last year I haven’t seen my grandchildren in person, so we FaceTime and I read to them often and they always ask for that book! I just KNEW that Eclipse was going to make it in the favorite 2020 indie polishes. I agree that multi-chromes don't technically have much of a palette to go with but the palette for Eclipse is just super stunning. I still need to get a bottle (or 2 >.> ) for myself, I really love the direction that ILNP is going in. That said, 2020 was really the year of Holo Taco for me. Except for that Zoya purchase I made that included Tasha and Soleil thanks to your swatch and review of that Fall 2020 collection. Those browns were too gorgeous to pass up. I really can't choose polishes but I think my favorite collections were ILNP's Fall/Halloween, Holo Taco's Rainbow Collection, and the Holo Taco Frosted Metals collection (I literally cannot believe how good Mint Money looks on my nails, holy moly).

So glad you finally got to experience Enchanted Polish in 2020. They've been a favorite of mine for years, especially being from a small town in California. In cremes, I like Sweet Mint, Nightswimming, and One Headlight, though I think Grass Stain is more your cuppa. In multichromes, I love the Imagine collection, but Kids is probably what I wear most.

Kyber Crystals and Sci Fi were my first purchases from Enchanted Polish and they're two of my absolute faves in my collection. Sci Fi is such a weird one, I didn't think I'd love it as much as I do. The tiny little holo sparkle scattered throughout is what really makes it, and it's so much prettier in person.

Finger Paints has some very interesting toppers I enjoy, and I bet you'd love them - especially Th-Ink Outside the Box, which is black and white hexes all different sizes. Looks RAD over hot pink or any bright color

I hadn’t seen Ahoy before but it looks really pretty and I love Neptune and the planets collection it is from. Eclipse is also really cool too and I love Phobos. I also love Green Taffy from Holo Taco, it made me realize I like green nail polish too. I have it and a few others in that collection and I have cosmic unicorn skin too and I am wearing it now on white. It is so pretty.

I am in love with toppers too, I think that if you are on a polish budget, it can increase your collection by leaps and bounds by combining a few toppers with the polishes you already have. I don't know if you have ever tried Whimsical Polish by Pam but she is so good at toppers. I just found her polish in Oct so I only have a few but I believe what she does is has a collection of around 5 glitter toppers, a jelly polish with glitters and then a creme or shimmer.
