Honestly, I would say just start with the module you like the most, simply due to the fact that you will be more motivated to learn it.

100% agree with this. My choices was to help steer those folks that didn't have any particular aircraft in mind so wanted to give 3 options I believe would be best to start with.

I started on FC3, enjoyed it for a while, I would still recommend it to a beginner to just feel out the game and get all their settings etc. fine tuned. When you get bored of the simple stuff, like I did, time to move to the harder stuff. I recommend the F-18 whole heartedly if you love carrier ops, easy to fly, semi-difficult systems management . F-16 is a little rocket, it is easier in my opinion to learn however, easy to fly, easy systems management. F-14 is a classic, systems are easy to learn(a lot is can be done by Jester), but hard to fly. A-10C is slow with massive amounts of ordnance, is decently easy to fly, hard on systems management.

I would just fly the superb TF-51 that is free with DCS world and the Su-25T which is also free. Then pick a module you are interested in that is out of Early Access and on 50% sale. You have to make a choice are you going to collect modules or fly them.

The only thing I wouldn't recommend, is buying modules solely for their capabilities. unless you're only playing PvP. You will have so much more fun flying planes/helos you find cool. Learning a modules is big part of the DCS gameplay. Learning something you're not really interested in is work, learning something you think is cool, is fun.

I would recommend to start with A-4 Skyhawk. It's for free and you can learn every essential with it.

@@ImpendingJoker A4 is a very capable airplane in Enigma Cold war Server. On the modern Servers you are right. I think, If someo e have a Love for a airplane than start with this. For many it is the F14 because of top gun. For me it was the Tornado im still waiting for!😉

Did you ever play Jane’s Longbow? That was an awesome sim and I bet this is similar but better experience. I picked up the F/A-18, F-16, A-10 and super carrier, Syria and FC3 with the 50% discount before they discontinued it Sunday.

2 paths to take getting into DCS. Look at DCS as game = start with FC3 (Flaming Cliffs 3 pack), get into ACTION quickly, get bored quickly and desire more advanced systems. Look at DCS as sim = get whatever module you want and learn in slices. Skip cold starts first, learn to control the aircraft, and get into the weapons. Use auto start at first until your relatively combat effective. Then backtrack and start learning the less fun things like cold starts, MFD's and navigation. You could utilize mods like UH-60 for helicopters or A-4 for jets to learn mostly full fidelity aircraft for free as they are community mods.

Me being new the chinook brought me to DCS. I also have the p51 because i love the plane. I have gotten the best value and best experience using the Su25t. Very rewarding and easy to fly and use. I recommned using the base game aircraft and seeing if even interested into DCS.

A) Start with what you're interested in. B) I picked F18 and it's easy to fly but also very hard. You'll learn to drop 4 different bombs, a laser designator and air to air missiles and you still can't use more than half the weapon systems. It can do everything, but it's NOT easy imo.

For complete newbies, the Jf17 is a really good pick as well. It is a slightly weaker F16 but with better weapon variety (it has harpoon, anti-ship capability, F16 has not), it's systems are the easiest to learn of all 4th gen aircraft, it flies the easiest as well. Datacartridge is very nice feature also.. Downsides are that it can carry even less than f16 with very little fuel, it also not well known and less cool than f18/16. Ultimately, F18 will always be the best for new players though, but more overwhelming to learn than Jf17. If ease of use is nr1 criterium for a new player, JF-17, if you already know DCS is for you and accept the complexity plus want carrier ops, F18 best choice.

the ah64 might not be the best helo to start with just due to all the complex and modern systems that can be overwhelming to newer players, while having to control it which is not easy to anyone. i would rather recommend the uh1h or the gazelle

Here me out....forget the weapons/radar systems and just think about the core of it which is that it's a Heli, the same as the UH1H/Gazelle. A new player can still learn the basic flight controls and how to fly a Heli just as they could those other Heli's you mentioned. Once they get that part down, they can then move into the advanced features all while not having to spend more money on another module. If they take the Huey route and learn the flight basics for a Heli and master it, they're going to want to start blowing stuff up next. So that will require them to spend more money to get a Apache or Blackshark. That was my logic in the Apache pic for a heli option. They can start with it with the basics and then grow into it over time for the advanced stuff.

​@@callsigngrimeyin my opinion the best choice is to use the 14 days trial for the Huey, it's a very simple helicopter to learn, 14 days is more than enough. I bought the black shark 3, I loved this helo, but it's a very simple aircraft that you can learn very quickly, so I refound the the black shark (it was a steam version) and bought the apache. In my opinion you have to buy the aircraft that you wanted the most, if this aircraft is hard to learn, use the 14 days trial to learn the easier ones

big disagree on the f18 vs f16, the f18 is every bit as capable in every aspect as the f16 except perhaps speed, beyond that the f18 carries more weapons, flies further, and has more weapon variety. but the f16 at certain speeds can be more agile, and can accelerate faster and sometimes get better 120 shots. i would rather take the f18 though if i only could chose one module in the game because i can do everything, and the f16 can not.

I hear you but F16 100% is an air superiority beast over the F18 tho. My point in picking it is largely because of its more modern systems. Makes it somewhat easier to learn than an old gen aircraft that you have to be way more hands on with to deploy weapons/radar, etc.

Hey Grimey, im currently collecting feedback from apache players, for i have the feeling they have recently (by now its about 8 months ago) changed the apache flightmodel for the worst it has ever been.. it feels overly rolly, likes to occilate in a circular pattern when transitioning into a hover or into forward flight from a hover.. it feels, as if the torque values are massively set to high, making it spin, overteact way too much, even after adjusting the curves a lot! It has really turned me off of the apache completely, despite it being my favorite aircraft and also my most played one..

It's always the most obvious option but I wanted to approach it from a different perspective and give the new DCS player that wants to jump right into a full fidelity aircraft to start. That's what I did when I first discovered DCS.

FC3 is really boring, you can easily learn all the air in one day and get bored of all of them in one week. I recommend the trial run for the FC3 just for you to get familiar with the game

I do have to disagree with you on the Apache. I think the Apache has taken over from the A-10c as THE most complex module you can get in DCS. If you want to talk about just getting into DCS, then you are far better off getting the Huey as a beginner Helo. It doesn't have nearly the complicated system of the Apache. So; I believe you just got over excited with tha Apache because - no way this is a beginner rotary module.

Here me out...strip away the complex parts of the aircraft and it's still a Heli. They can start there them dive into the more complex aspects of the aircraft. Otherwise they buy the Huey and learn it but once they do that...they can't go blowing stuff up with it like they can in the Apache. So then they need to spend more money. In short, that is my logic for the Apache pick.

You are dead wrong about the Apache being first for a newbie. The Huey is the way to go there. Learn the basics of flying a helicopter in a Pinto, then upgrade to the Lexus. I do not get why people think the Apache is the best to learn on, it absolutely is not. So many people get discouraged trying to fly it because it is actually pretty difficult to employ as a weapon system when you are trying to learn to fly helicopters for the first time. It's like trying to pogo stick on top of a bowling ball at the same time.

Can't ever be wrong when it's my opinion. I think a common mistake for new DCS players in general is that they don't actually commit time to learning the aircraft step by step and instead jump in and try to do everything all at once.

The A10 and Harrier are a different breed of aircraft that I could never tell anyone new to start with. lol I started DCS with the Harrier and man did I get my ass kicked for WEEKS learning it. Very complex and challenging aircraft. Def two to get after you learn the basics with another aircraft imo
