Hey, Debo's! Thanks, So much for helping me up my game in Bass fishing. One year ago I was fishing only Spin casters. You opened my eyes up to stepping up my game. My friend bought me a Quantum Pulse Bait caster reel. Put in on a Ugly Stick medium heavy 6'6 rod. Started out on 12 pd mono and trying to cast a Senko Texas rigged. After maybe 5 cast with the new reel. I was getting the hang of it. I never looked back! Practice, Practice, Practice. My Father started me on the 3/4 oz Rattle Traps a long time ago. I am 59 years old now. So learning to change my fishing technics after all this time. Took some effort and it was worth it. Now I still have the spin caster and rod for lipless crank baits and spinnerbaits. But now own two baitcaster reel's The Quantum Pulse and my new Quantum ACCURIST PT S3 baitcaster reel and using 20 pd braid. Both on Berkley Cherry wood medium heavy 6'6 rod's. Bought a few Red eye lipless crank bait's and Rattle Traps at Academy Sports Warehouse. I believe in breaking my PB will be alot easier with the great info you have on You tube. Keep up the great work. I only bank fish now. That's why I don't have any rod over 6'6 in height. See Ya! At the Lake's. Shawn

Here is something to think about; bank fishing in other countries like England and Europe is very popular and have organized bank fishing tournaments. They call fishing in small ponds and lakes still water fishing. Fishing in rivers and streams is also quite developed. American anglers are lightyears behind bank fishing techniques developed in England and Europe. Japanese and Austrian anglers have developed many techniques that slowly appear as the latest and greatest new way to fish in America. An example is they often use two single hooks on hard-baits. We think adding a bigger hook is the answer to not losing fish on crankbaits. I tried changing to using single hooks on rattletraps a long time ago and it works. You lose fewer lures in cover and fewer fish hooked shake off after hooking them. My treble crankbait hooks are so sharp if one falls on my boat carpet, I often have to snip it out with scissors and fish still shake off. Many Japanese lures called Vibes use just one single hook. Vibes are another name for lipless crankbaits. Changing to two single hooks, could help you fishing friends stuck on the bank lose less lures and save for a float tube. Most baits you use other than crankbaits only have one hook with only a few exceptions so why would it not work on hard baits too. Saltwater angles change trebles to single hooks when fishing for fish that take a long time to land because they lose far less fish during the fight. The best reason to use single hooks is less fish die using single hooks and single hooks are easy to remove. You say think out the box. Well this is thinking out of the box.
@DEBOSFishing5 жыл бұрын
I've heard of some people doing that. I need to test it out. I would be nice to help reduce snags. However, I would think you would miss a lot of fish that just slap at the bait. Good food for thought my friend 👊

S-Waver 168 / Jerkbait combo is my favorite for Spring. The S-Waver may not always get bit, but I often see bass trailing it. When this happens I switch to the jerkbait. If these two aren't working then I like the lipless crankbait for searching different depths or even hopping on the bottom. My #3 lure is a red craw colored squarebill. My guess for the spinnerbait brand: *Mann's*. I think that looped over line-tie area is a dead giveaway. I actually kinda dig that. It would make it easier to use a bait snap while using the spinnerbait without it sliding out of position, which happens with modern open-bend designs. (although I have started using a wacky o-ring wrapped around the line tie area to prevent this, which might have actually been a tip from you, Debo. I can't remember).

Keep in mind that lures such as the Tungsten Two Tap produce a different sound/vibration frequency. Bass, using their lateral line, can feel this and they can tell the difference between it and a crank that has a high-pitch sound produced by a bunch of tiny balls in the rattle. If you think the “rattle sounds” are trivial, you’re likely missing out on big bass and sometimes it literally does come down to spending four more bucks on the lure, or missing a 6lber. From my experience using a Heddon Spook and then using the Heddon Spook One Knocker, the different sound is significant to the bass and, this is just my opinion based on my experience, but bigger bass prefer the low pitch “knocking” noise over the high pitched rattle.
@DEBOSFishing5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! There are people that really dial down into the specific sounds of the lipless for all different situations. I agree that it could make a difference, I just haven't personally gone down that rabbit hole lol. Appreciate that comment man!

@johngosline79905 жыл бұрын
7’10” seems like it’s a little overkill for chatterbaits, more of a deep cranking rod, but depending on what it loads at it would work sure, I use a 7’2”-7’5” med hvy moderate for pretty much every chatter and crank I have, 95% of the time I’m fishing from the bank because I pond hop a lot so taking a longer rod doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me but on a boat, have at it

Debo I don’t fish ponds because I have a motorboat. Any lure used in shallow water will work in ponds just fine. For that, matter fish in ponds are just living in less water than fish in big lakes. Little boats called float-tubes are great for bass fishing ponds and I am surprised you have not tried one. I guess you would need a waterproof camera. Number one search bait for shallow water areas over weeds that are still far below the surface is the Mann’s Baby Minus-1 in White. You just cast it out and reel it back no orking or dorking you don’t have to bang off anything. Bass come a long ways to eat this little bait. If you are fishing waters that Pike live use a 4 to 6-inch wire leader or buy a big bunch of extra baits. I have caught Big Pike looking for early spring Bass. Pike are the first to show up in the spring and they cut you clean in flash. The next Bait for shallow water when the weeds start to reach close to the surface is a Terminator T-1 Titanium spinnerbait white with gold willow blades. They are difficult to find because people like me buy everyone they see and they aren’t cheap. Expect to pay $10 dollars and more for one. This should tell you why they are so hard to find. I caught Big Bass, Pike, Musky, Big Walleye and catfish in water from one foot to eighteen feet. Why I don’t know and don’t care. Size three eighths and half ounce are hard to find. The three-quarter costs thirteen bucks and is easier to find. Other spinnerbaits will work even the one-dollar bargains at Walmart. However, they do not compare to the original Titanium T-1. Least but the most effective is a Carolina-Rig for finding Big Pre-spawn females in deep water. Drag ditches, creek channels and any hard bottom areas in water six to eighteen feet deep. I use a black six-inch lizard, mostly a Zoom or Power-Bait. However, many other colors could work better as the post spawn fish start moving back deeper. Carolina-rigs locate Bass in deep water because they stay on the bottom; they also cost less than twenty-dollar crankbaits. Find the bass and then play with your Big-Boy toys. I have caught a lot of Big Girls on lizards. Here Lizard, Lizard, Lizard. Others lures include Strike King Rocket Shad, Chatter-baits, Zoom-Toads and Gold blade Buzz-baits. All these lures catch Bass anywhere after the ice melts. I used a little pack canoe on ponds when I was young made by Old Town it weighed 28 pounds. I took it everywhere and caught tons of fish in that little canoe. If you stand on the bank, you are missing out on the best fishing ponds have to offer.

You know me many, so you know what I throw all the time...but my #2-3 I will add ;) 1) Warbaits Swimjig - 1/4-3/8 oz in Firecracker, Orange or DCP and a Zman Diezel, Diezel Minnow, SwimmerZ or even Slim Swimz on the 1/4 ( One plastic lasts all season if you want ) I also like to change it up with a Zman Crustacean type, Turbo CrawZ, Punch CrawZ or Palmetto BugZ 2) Alabama Rig - Take your pick, either a smaller profile like LIveTarget Baitball or a larger spread out version like Yum Yumbrella Flash Mob If that is a little rough for the day, I just throw a Strike KIng Premier Plus for a few bucks with the previos mentioned above paddle tail baits 3) Underspin - I prefer Warbaits or Coolbaits Weedless in 1'4 - 3'8 oz and use, you guessed it, the same plastics in #1. versatility is key and helps save cash for other baits for other times of year :D Honorable mention) Jerkbaits - both hardbaits and softbaits I prefer Luckycraft Flash Minnow SP110 in Sexy Smelt (SW-FM110-634SXSM) or Sexy Senorita (SW-FM110-796SXSNT) I will use a cheaper Berkley Skinny Cutter 110+ in Sexier Shad, Gilly or Table Rock ( that purple crushes) For softbait it is hard to go wrong with Zman Razor ShadZ and StreakZ or just a cheap bag of trust Zoom Super Flukes in White Pearl on a EWG 4/0 in a Superline version and run it Tex-posed ( I use Owner hooks personally) Great vid as usual Man!

Hey DEBO, got question for you. I have a Cabela's brand tournament zx rod. It's a medium heavy fast, line weight is 12-20(average for mh) but lure weight is 1/4-5/8(seems low compared to others). Wondering why this could be?
@c.shoefish5 жыл бұрын
Also, it says spinner bait/swim jig on it, what else you think it would be good for? Jigs? Jerkbaits? Maybe cranks? Rod feels more like a moderate fast compared to other MHF rods
@DEBOSFishing5 жыл бұрын
Generally, that lower rating is because of the rid tip. Loading too heavy of a lure on the cast will break a tip. Also, companies don't have a standard, it's up to the manufacturer. Some companies may call a rod with those exact same specifications a medium. Hope this helps man!
@DEBOSFishing5 жыл бұрын
@@c.shoefish yea, the softer MH rods I have that feel like that I use for single hook moving baits (swim jig, chatter, spinner, paddle tail) the softness in the rod helps keep fish pinned.

@DEBOSFishing5 жыл бұрын
Yessir, I always used to throw the Mann's spinnerbait trailer. Little body with a couple of spaghetti looking legs. Now I like just a little thin keitech. You can use flukes or even a ribbon tail worm.

DEBO'S Fishing I’ve been using a lot of the strike king twin tail rage menace grubs as trailers lately and they’ve been killer on both spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, I rig them with the tail vertical instead of horizontal and it’s been money my past few trips out

I know man! Not sharp at all! I look for sales. The mustad triple grip are great. Otherwise you could use gamakatsu round bend. You can find good sales on them around the holidays. Size 4 on the 1/2 oz or size 6 on the 1/4 oz lipless. Hope this helps man!

Sorry nothing to say bout your vid , but I have a problem , today I tie the perfect FG knot and I thought I test it with a scale I’m pulling and it finally broke at seven lbs , here’s the dope , fourteen lb fireline and fourteen Berkley fluorocarbon the FG knot was ok BUT the fluorocarbon broke , it was new this summer , so run out to Walmart and bought a spool of twelve lb fluorocarbon tried it and it broke , both lines broke at seven and eight lbs , tried a ten lb fluorocarbon it broke at seven , try berk big game 15 lb it held up to twenty two lb , so my question is does fluorocarbon suck or does Walmart have just old fluorocarbon, I sure you don’t know , I did have seventeen lb fluorocarbon and it did break at seventeen lb , oh well my FG knot didn’t slip or break . Any ideas ??? All lines were berkley . I think I might give’m a call tomorrow
@DEBOSFishing5 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. I don't know. That's tough because each knot was tied differently so it could have been one small imperfection. Did you try tying the knot multiple times with the same line to test? It wasn't the Berkley vanish line was it?
@stevenpalmer67835 жыл бұрын
Yeah the knots held but the lines just broke , maybe eight ft or so from the scale and where it was tied off , don’t know if that had anything to do with it , I thought maybe it was to short of length to be testing a strength test , I know they stretch, mono and fluro, but jees prob a ft or so , especially mono like a rubber band almost , but hey , thanks for getting back with me

My absolute favorite for covering water is the Paddle-Tail Swimbait, I usually use the Keitech with the fattest tail, but have success on other brands I've tried. I prefer the belly weighted EWG hooks to make them weedless, I fish a lot of grass and pads. 2nd, the chatterbait type lures have come on strong for me lately, especially this past weekend, out performing traditional spinnerbaits. I particularly like the Lunker Hunt Kraken, I can fish it much slower than an Original Zman Chatterbait. So far I'm still undecided on which I like best of the crankbait style lures, such as the lipless, or squarebill, or suspending jerkbait, more fishing is in order to decide that.
@DEBOSFishing5 жыл бұрын
The belly weighted weedless paddle tail is pretty versatile. Comes through cover like you said, you can wake it on top, bounce it on bottom. Yea, the cranks are hard to fish in the really grassy lakes. Thanks for watching, Russell 👊

I think. EVERYBODY needs to go watch Mike Gilbert’s / Working Class Zero’s video “consider it gone.” -- that video DEFINITELY help me rethink some things. before you even throw that bait, just consider it gone. it’ll clear so much off of your shoulders. and trust me, I know I lot of lures are expensive as fuck... but if you’re gonna get into the thick stuff, you’re inevitably going to lose some lures. good luck. ...
