I wish ACC would branch out into the full le mans/imsa calendar and cars, adding gtlm/gte cars and prototypes. I feel like they could really do multiclass well.
@KepleroGT

They have multiclass already in the form of GT3/GT4, but I get what you mean. However I remember Aris (a dev with a youtube channel) saying that for ACC they wanted to specialize in 1 championship with 1 type of car so that it would have extra depth, and that the licenses were already quite expensive for a 30 employee studio. That would also help them to learn how Unreal Engine works before making AC2 because they were using their own engine in AC1 but it wasn't sustainable for them and it was too much effort.

BeamNG is the only actual vehicle simulator on the market. Imagine that the only flight simulators available were medium fidelity air race sims, then XPlane 11 came out and the public reaction was that "it was a nice circuit breaker and air conditioner sim, but it wouldn't be an actual flight sim until it got pylons, timers, and sponsor liveries". That is analogous to the situation with our sim driving community. Saying that BeamNG is a "crash simulator" is completely missing the point, and saying that BeamNG isn't a sim until it gets the usual racing elements is (a) a complete lack of understanding of what a sim is, and (b) a rejection of what BeamNG is trying to do. I think that BeamNG should focus on the detail of their vehicles instead of erasing everything they have by following the advice of people who think that "simulation" and "race" are synonyms.

ACC's focused approach is a huge plus for it, in my view. The trend for sims nowadays (including the original AC) is to shove everything in at once; we must have GTs, F1, touring cars, track day weapons, road cars, vintage stuff, the lot, as much as humanly possible. As a result, though, we get a less complete experience; we have very partial rosters of cars, generic one-size-fits-all track skins, and partial functionality (ie AC's half-baked DRS rules.) I may feel like I'm driving a Huracan GT3, but I feel like I'm competing in some random faceless GT3 series. That overall experience is what ACC can provide through its focus, I genuinely feel like I'm competing in British GT or the Fanatec GTWC because we have complete fields, tracks with appropriate signage, rules packages, the right pitstops - we even have accurate types of brake pad. C'mon. Compare that to the GT3 experience you get in pretty much any other sim. And everyone's trying to do the same thing, too, trying to be a jack-of-all-trades, which leads me to need only one or two titles. However, if we had ACC's GT3 experience flanked by (absolutely random examples) a complete IMSA experience by Slightly Mad, a complete IndyCar title by Reiza, a complete touring car experience by Studio 397/Motorsport Games, then that is a sale from me for all of them regardless of how I feel about their physics or what-have-you. Tangential, but yeah. More ACC-type focused titles, please.

@@MikeLikesBikes095 Absolutely agreed, iRacing has the grassroots stuff nailed. I think it's the really biggest series that need the big representation; I'd be more inclined to pick up an IMSA or WEC title than one focused on the 2021 Spec Racer Ford season, so I think the multi-discipline sim has a place there. I always felt like I was actually going weekend-warrior club racing on iRacing, just the same as ACC makes me feel like I'm in an SRO GT3 race, man I love it for that.

I do think there are some things that BeamNG does better as a driving sim than other games I've tried, like the way it simulates traditional automatic transmissions with lengthy kick-down times. It really adds an element of technique to the police chase scenarios for example, where you have to put the power on way earlier than normal so that it'll kick-down into a lower gear in time.

I just wish they'd update the UI. It looks like it was designed with a 6" touch screen in mind and then just scaled right the fuck up. I have loved PC2 and clocked up hundreds of hours after bedtime stories and the washing up were done. Tired of its inconsistency, I still adore the look and feel. The music is just Sublime. RF1 is so long ago I remember little and RF2 broke my heart. I took a break when my daughter was born, then when I got some time back they'd broken it. Then sold it. To people who broke it in new ways. I saved up for a better wheel and Assetto Corsa and never looked back. Currently loving ACC but disappointed that it's not an AC sequel. Great vid Jimmer. Started off on it last Jan in more arcadey type but got into more and more sim like settings as the year went on (still can't do manual though). That and the yearly NASCAR game(s) are the only sim games I play outside of MotoGP. I've tried others like Assetto Corsa on XOX but it's a bit too realistic for me. What you said about ACC being intuitive is really interesting, because I've pretty much had the opposite experience. I'd get into a car, look up a hotlap, drive for a bit and hit a wall. As in, a laptime wall. I'd just stop improving. With no clue why. With AC I usually now where exactly I can improve and how, but with ACC the car just seems to be going slower than others for no obvious reason. Granted, I mostly played around with GT4 for league racing purposes, but the gap to most other drivers is really daunting.

as an ps4 "sim-racer" this is my top 4 list: 1. Project cars 2 because i love the vareity of different cars, tracks and options to built the perfect race rexperience in form of multi class events. also you have great weather options and a good career mode. i know that the handling is a bit difficult but its a ton of fun playing it. also it gives me chills, going in the practice mode and driving any car that i want without any presure. the graphics look superior aswell even after 4 years. 2. ACC because GT racing is something that i am absolutely in to and it has the best handling model that you can get on ps4. but i would love to have more series in it like le mans and imsa. 3. Dirt 2.0 im absolutely in to rallying and it has really great physics, the best of rallye cars and tracks and its perfectly challenging for me. love it. 4. AC i love the handling and the vareity of cars but on ps4 where you cant download any mods it gets a bit boring after 6 months of playing it.

For me: 5 - Race 07 - You never forget the first one, and Race 07 was my first proper sim title. Anders' Super Touring Car mods will never stop being fun, and S2000 spec Touring Cars aren't really anywhere else in sim racing. 4: iRacing - the reason this isn't higher is because I struggle to commit to it, but honestly their Formula Vee is one of the most fun cars to drive in sim racing. If you want to get better at sim racing, you could do a lot worse than give it a try, and it's an absolute riot. 3 - AMS1: it's a toss up between this and AC, but AMS1 has stuff you just don't see in other sims, and the pure driving experience is so rewarding. AMS2 has taken huge strides in V1.3, and those 1990's CART cars are an absolute riot, but for pure driving feel, AMS1 is unmatched - AMS2 would probably be a 6th or 7th, and is well worth coming back to every few months to see what they have done with it. 2 - Dirt Rally 2: This game is amazing. RBR is probably a bit closer to real rallying, and the WRC games have amazing stages, but for me DR2 is the best compromise. Cross platform club events are huge, and it was so good it was able to convince a few friends who had never played a rallying game before to give it a try, and they loved it. 1: RaceRoom Racing Experience - I'm shamelessly biased with this, because Touring Car racing is my favourite motorsport to watch, and RaceRoom absolutely nails it. Aggressive AI, fantastic collision physics which allow to to doorhandle to doorhandle race with AI and other players, some excellent historic content, and a ranked racing system which produces some of the most fun I have had with sim racing. The 1992 DTM pack alone puts it on this top 5 because they're some of my favourite cars in sim racing, and the Modern TCRs are so much fun to race against big grids. The takeaway from this video and this list should always be - drive the sims that does the thing you want the best, and there's not a bad sim on the market in all honesty, as pretty much all of the ones that are trying to simulate racing have positives and negatives.

Also putting anybody not familiar with it on it and it'll be a mess with them struggling with the interface and helping them out without grabbing the HMD off their head is also not very doable. Honorable mentions: Richard Burns rally, haven’t played it, but longevity alone gives me reason to include it here Raceroom: love the older stuff they have in there, basically what Jimmy says 5: Assetto Corsa: I only have it for console, got it for like $13, so worth it. Feels good, looks good for when it came out, DLC is very good, no complaints just not my favorite yet, as I only got it recently. ACC is not there for me because of the lack of content. I don’t really care about GTs too much, I’ll drive them, but don’t love them so it isn’t worth it for me. 4. Project Cars 2 (when it works): Hear me out. In terms of immersion, this and DR 2.0 are the best out there. Graphics and weather effects, sounds, everything. Unfortunately it works half the time all the time. I still have a soft spot for it. It’s also worth noting that I got this as my first proper sim for free, so there’s a bit of value there in that it was the first. For getting it free, the amount of content (minus the DLC) is really decent. 3. rFactor: the dirt mods make it for me. Plus the original content. I can play a circuit that I live a half an hour away of and have spent 12-13 years full of Friday and Sunday summer nights at, it’s so cool. 2. DiRT Rally 2.0: just unbelievable. The mix of a ton of cars, challenging stages, the sounds, the mix of new and old (I care more about the old), the immersion, the different damage models, personally I think it’s the best rally sim on the market still. It’s just incredibly limited to that which is partially why it’s not one, but also why it’s so high up. It does its job so well. 1. Iracing: obvious reasons. Just a money pit, and I can’t afford it. But, it does have a soft spot for me because of the exposure the dirt oval stuff gets, I know rFactor gets mods for it, but they are unmatched compared to the look, feel, and sound of Iracing. To be able to race cars I watch race IRL weekly (big block modifieds, i live in New York so I’m blessed to have them, an hour from Weedsport, sprint cars, street stocks) amazing. And, to see certain drivers you’re accustomed to seeing in real life drive in sim is unbelievably cool as well. It has come a long way recently, especially with the W12. Hopefully the damn price comes down and I can feasibly do it a bit later in life.

In my opinion AC is the best sim that I've ever played. The physics feel satisfying and the mod support makes it incredible. The online experience is really bad but casually driving offline is really fun. Also hosting your own private server with friends is fun, except when the game suddenly just decides not to work (20% chance every session) Also a big downside is the clunky GUI. Whenever I feel like tryharding I play ACC, which probably offers the best simulation of all sims that i've played(but only for gt3 of course). The game feels super refined, the ffb and physics feel amazing and the sound is very good too. But just driving GT3 gets stale quickly for me(partially because I suck), which is why I usually prefer the original Assetto Corsa. I've also played Dirt rally and Dirt Rally 2.0 a few times and while they're fun, they just feel like a sim-cade to me. Catching slides is ridiculously easy and it just doesn't really feel as realistic as other sims. Also the tarmac physics suck ass. I have also played a few hours on AMS2 before refunding it. It's absolutely garbage imo. The physics just feel unbelievable, half of the time you have way too much rear grip and massive understeer and then you just get some massive arcade ish oversteer out of nowhere. Haven't played any other sims, iRacing is just too expensive for me and haven't really considered the other ones.

Yes you spend money, so if you dont have a job then its not for you. You can race a league and buy one track a week, so $11 a week, but then you own it. Yes its expensive. Ive had the sim for a year and have spent around $600-$800. Yes a lot but now i have everything that i enjoy to race, i dont need to buy anything more other than my yearly membership. @@R83TV Accident avoidance is also a skill. Though the "no fault" system is a bit stupid, and it could at least somewhat incorporate logic into it without handing out plain penalties for any sort of contact.

For me my top 3 would be (based purely on hours played and smiles/dollar): 3. ACC 2. DIRT Rally 2 1. Assetto Corsa With an honourable mention to RBR and Raceroom. I really liked the overall driving feel of IRacing however after my initial 3 month subscription was up the monetisation modell made sure that I wouldn't go back anywhere near it.

Spot on , the best physics of all time in that order , 1. Ac 2. Dr 2.0 3. Acc , still something feels wrong to me , i dont really know why , it like has broken physics, I'm not connected 100% to the car like in the first ac and dirt 2.0

My top 5 list, coming from someone who doesn't really care about ultra realistic physics etc. 1. Project Cars 2. The immersion, graphics, car and track selection, and good enough handling/physics. 2. Dirt Rally 2. Again great immersion, graphics, and car selection with fantastic physics. (excluding tarmac) 3. F1 2020. Great career mode. 4. Assetto Corsa. I really only use this one to hotlap with mods. 5. Nascar Racing 2003. Unfortunately still the best Nascar game, but at least it has excellent mod support. Honourable mention: Forza games. Yes, they aren't sims, but they're great for when I need some arcade racing.

@@nothing2see315 AC is not singleplayer game, you just have the option to play with AI! Published in 2014, it was made by about ~15 people and they didn't know it would be a success! That's not bad at all! Now ~25 people are working!

For me; 5) PC2; so many flaws BUT there are still a few good car / track combos… 4) ACC; I don’t enjoy GT3 or GT4 cars, and my PC hates this game in VR so I rarely play it, but when I do, I have to accept what a brilliant game it is… 3) AC; just so so so many mods… 2) AMS2; argue about the physics if you like but it’s certainly fun - anyway, this has come to life recently with the constant improvements. On RD there are loads of complete seasons of F1 (skin mods with the driver names and AI info) and the CART ‘98 mod is incredible too… 1) RF2; I hate the UI, I hate the loading times, I hate so much about it, but it’s still the sim which, when I load it up, I lose more hours in than any other!

AC also had a terrible interface and loading times before CM. That's why I play it a lot and RF2 hardly ever. Too bad there isn't a CM for RF2 even if the loading times would still be horrible.

Sounds like I need to try iRacing again. Fell out of love because of the cost and the tyres were like skating on ice. Got heavily in to a heavily modded AC. The IER P13 on Sebring or the V8 SCORSA at Bathurst (both Reboot Team tracks) is just incredible and as near to it as you can get (ex karters, formula drivers, bike racers in our group). And that's what me and our members are interested in. Keen to try AMS2 and 1 considering what you said there about the Praga. Tried RF2 recently, yeh, agree, tyres feel nice but just lacks something... 1. AC, 2. iRacing, 3. RF2 . Off to try AMS I think ;)

Does Jimmer even have a AMS 2 1.3 video? not seen one, sounds like he is not even aware of the massive changes...AMS 2 for me right now! weather and track conditions are way too overlooked and add so much.

Raceroom is my go to sim. It worked on my old crappy laptop wich made me happy wanting to switch from ps3. AMS runs so smooth. Great it is still mentioned. Rf2 is taking all of my storagespace. Had a lot of issues with it. Only using it for the new zandvoort atm. Mainly race touringcars and gt4. BeamNG is something I would love to try. Spend lots of time in AC just modding and learning a bit about that. Making liveries and such.

Jimmy is absolutely right about the cost of iRacing being obscene... BUT: Yes it will cost you thousands if you want every little thing, but that's not how anyone approaches iRacing (and nor should they). There's no reason to buy ALL the cars because as pointed out, a lot of them are legacy that aren't in series anymore so unless you have a niche to fill and a league to join/create for it, there's no need for it (and you'd probably be better off trying to run that kind of thing in a different sim that doesn't have an ongoing cost). The real hurdle for iRacing is actually in the tracks, because if you want to compete in a full season, you need to have most of, or all of those tracks, and it does take quite a bit of money to build up that nucleus of popular tracks. Once you get over that hump, the cost goes down considerably and only have to fork out if a new track comes out once in a while, or if you want to expand into a different car/series. To be honest, I think a few of the older tracks that the established userbase almost certainly all have now but still make it into regular R to C class series races regularly should probably be made free to help smooth out that initial cost hump for newer subscribers. Or maybe the first time an account gets to a specific licence class (like D to C or whatever) an offer gets made by iRacing - "hey we noticed you just got your C license. That's great! How would you like a bulk discount on the tracks on one of the series you might like to race in that class for this season?" Or something like that. I'm aware that iRacing already has multi-item purchase discounts that apply, but perhaps that format might make it a bit easier for a newer account holder to actually be aware of and take advantage of.

This is a good comment. I would add that iRacing is designed for online competition. You can set up a hosted server with your friends (for a very small cost), there are hundreds of leagues all around the world, there are official series/races. There is a (non-perfect but it's there) protest system monitored by ACTUAL humans, and people do actually get banned for shitty driving. Popular tracks are updated with laser scans (Watkins glen being the most recent). New cars are released semi regularly and are always produced to a high standard (the new TCR cars for example) In a similar vein to your point, you should not approach iRacing with a view to racing whatever you like where ever you like. Pick a GT3 car, pick an Oval car, pick a few tracks,. then go from there. There's no need for a massive outlay of cash up front (iRacing - a trial system for new content would be really great!)

The new AMS2 FFB /Custom FFB, physics and graphics are top notch. Tried ACC last night, and it felt so unnecessarily slippery and not as natural as AMS2.
