Gateron Inks were my gateway drug to this being a mainstay hobby. Spent a fair share of money and found the: -Durock Poms to be a good sounding louder smooth linear -Gateron Ink Blacks to be a thocky mediun quiet switch -Auralite switch to be clack heaven in my Bakeneko, minus the scratch they have -Cherry Hyperglide Black to be the most unique possibly best sounding linear, if too quiet, plagued by scratchiness and prohibitively heavy spring -Boba thocks (linear and u4t) to be a cheat code to thock and super tactile -Holy panda to be a louder solid tactility switch plagued by 3 pin -Cotton Candy tactile to be the best feeling & sounding light tactile -Kailh Box White to be the best clicky for casual/curious clicky users -Kailh Box Jade to be the most tactile and most clicky swtich for committed clicky enthusiasts

I'm really happy you decided to make the Aqua Kings your No. 1 pick for this year as I just ordered a set of them for my first ever modular PCB board. Not only do they sound and (hopefully) feel great, but they also apparently let a lot of light through, being entirely clear switches which I LOVE. This'll be a board to remember I'm fairly confident.

Which switches to use is a complicated thing and funny enough this year I found myself downgrading to a cheaper switch for a while, I built my ikki 68 with silk blacks (JWK recolor), but felt there was something off and installed Gateron KS3 Yellows and they felt and sounded way better. Finally I got some black ink v2s for christmas from my best friend and after lubing and filming them, they are on a league of their own.

personally I really enjoy tactile, so I kinda like the cs lavender purple the most rn, also, congrats dude, I got into the hobby of custom keyboards recently and you def helped me get further into it

Same here. Akko lavenders are reallly great for the price, but some batches have pretty bad springping... Luckily I could get rid of it easily by donutlubing the springs.

@@ProphitDesigns totally know what you mean. My first set of lavenders was pretty much perfect and the second set that I bought a month later has terrible spring pring, even after bag lubing. Donut dipping does the job tho. For that purpose I bought some super cheap thick super lube that I can use in generous amounts without becoming poor

Not really a fan of the polaris grey, an alternative to them that I found pretty similar but just a little better is the ktt strawbs. The greys have a bit too much wobble and the bottom out doesnt feel as solid, the strawberries have a really hard hitting bottom out while retaining a similar sound, smoothness, but actually having really tight tolerances.

Havent tried that many switches but i agree with you on Akko Rose Red. Man it's actually too good for its price, it's my second-fav switch. As for my fav, it has to be JWK Alpacas, can't go wrong with Alpacas

@@LewisToh I see you too are in the Linear camp. But hey, maybe you can review a few of the light tactiles? The Tescee Purple Panda sounds decent, and they are cheap! The TTC Gold Pinks are great super low weight linears. I find them strangely appealing. The KTT Strawberry seems like great budget linears too.

I bought quite a few switches in 2021: Boba U4, glacier panda, Matcha Latte, Banana splits, Melons, konpeitou, Alpacas, Hyperglide blacks, aqua kings, cows, TTC ace, black inks V2, bobagums. My favorite of them all got to be the aqua kings (L+F) on FR4 plate, and TTC ace (stock, yep stock). Honorable mention for blank inks v2 with SA caps. Looking forward to what 2022 got to offer!

how did you lube your factory lubed aqua kings ? did you wipe the lube or just lube over it with krytox 205 g0

Would be interested to hear what you think of Boba LT switches since you seem like a member of Linear Gang. They aren't lubed from the factory, but you can buy them assembled and hand lubed from places like Kirball Keys, but it can take a few weeks to get them. Would highly recommend if you like things like the Aqua Kings.

Its just not good when you compare it to other switches. This was made even worse when Akko showed up and introduced actual good light tactiles into the market which are even cheaper than gateron browns.

Please use jwick blacks imo for budget switches they have a good pop to them and sound great tbh gat blacks aren't the best feeling switch lol they are acrusly slightly scratchy at times not bad but I do think the press is unique almost soft lime a rubber bottom out but tbh they are not the best switch snd gat browns aren't even close to the best switches lol
