The only funny thing about this is, the sales pitch is wrong. Running cost, consumables, .. they are stupid cheap on Lotus Elise S1/S2/S3, Exige S1/S2 because they are so light. Small wheel size, brake pads don't wear down fast and are cheap, etc...

@George Seaton true. Not many nowadays are high end no luxury like lotus. Bentley, rolls etc, all interchangeable. I've mainly had old school Japanese cars, r32 gtr, turbo mx5s, evo etc. Pre 2000s cars. Not luxury by any standard. I've really been toying with the idea of a lotus recently. So I would love it if you could answer something. How tunable are the engines? If I have to engine swap to get 400bhp - 600bhp 'reliable' I won't bother with one.

@@Tylorgng. And thats the difference that these exotic car sellers never seem to fully grasp. Their sales are good cause they are selling something in actual demand. Cool looking (and driving) car but, at 6'4" I needed a shoehorn to get in/out and the passenger side left something to be desired, as well because the interior is designed to fit the outside rather than the outside being designed around the cabin as are most American cars. To say the dash and instrumentation was "basic" is being polte. The bare essentials and the tech thrn was... Yeah. But, at 140mph, you're not looking to be entertained by your dashboard. I've seen this with other makes, as well. People often don't understand these principles about import exotics. My family owns car lots. I've been to many sales training seminars. Every day before hitting the floor there's 30 minutes of overcoming objections. The one common theme through all of it is to tell the customer about the vehicle and then "take it away" (give reasons why it won't be available, cost is changing, whatever) and to try hard to convince them the car they want, isn't what they want. (Turn them from something thry like to something you know they don't to subconsciously reinforce what they like in the first vehicle and make them want it more). The more you say "no," the more people will try to argue "yes." It's in our nature to compete and argue for what we want and especially those who would be drawn to these types of cars. It was the same with Porches and Alphas. People are predictable, easy to manipulate and human nature doesn't change. (I want an old Europa!)

Good policy, either confirms what they know or informs them of what they do not know about the car. Either way, they go into the purchase informed or have the chance to back out before buying. Won’t have anyone regretting their purchase

I had an 05 Elise, blue with black soft top. Totaled it on the same day I got the 22,500 service. I truly get sad to this day when I see one. It was a daily driver and only had a 9 gallon fuel tank. Best 2 years of my driving life. Made my Vette feel sloppy. One day I would love another one but they are getting top $. 😊

Growing up, my moms boyfriend had a Lotus Elise that he tracked. I saw it go from bone stock to zero interior, OLED guages and a (iirc) Haltek ECU, giant turbo, over 600 wheel horsepower, and tons of other small go-fast shit. It took one stop light pull when it was done for me to want nothing else in a car. That thing hit 60 before the other side a 4-lane intersection, 2.something seconds? (It wasn't geared for top speed.)

I worked selling cars for a little while and I found that the best way to sell them was to ask the customer what they actually needed it for. And apparently the more things that I could point out, for the car they were looking at, that didn’t meet the needs they had mentioned, the more they wanted it? And if I could get their partner onside that they shouldn’t buy it, the deal was basically done 😐

It’s the “still worth it” trick- if you tell people “here are the sacrifices making this decision includes” rather than just positives, they know that all the people who already made that decision still found it worth it, and often, to themselves, decide it’s worth it too

People tend to trust you more when you're telling them only things they already know are true, especially if giving them that knowledge could easily work against you. You didn't want to make them buy a Lotus, they already made up their minds about that. You made them want to buy a Lotus from YOU. That is salesmanship as an art.
