My sister had Trigeminal Myalgia. I remember how much pain she was in, and how light affected her. She had us get blackout material to cover all her windows, and she would sit in the dark with a dark cloth over her head. She couldn't even open the fridge door because of the light. She never mentioned any opportunity for surgery, but she was terrified of that sort of thing and would never have agreed. She did manage, after time, and a lot of drugs, to get it into abatement, but it took a long, long time. Good luck, best wishes, and I will make a point of clicking on all your vids and giving the thumbs up!

Just watching your podcast. I have this as a result of an MS related plaque. Anticonvulsant meds are the only beneficial pain meds. Pregablim currently assisting after a disastrous attempt with another drug. Very hard to describe the intensity of pain, for me it was a complete curve ball, totally unexpected. I have no idea if the current drug related relief will be long standing. Every day currently is a blessing. My vege garden was a disaster last year but so enjoying seeing it getting sorted out, this autumn. Cant believe that i have been bying zucchini this summer...shows the state that my garden was in. Sorry, but it was really refreshing to hear somebody elses story with this condition.

Just watching some of your older content and saw this. My Nana raised me and she had Trigeminal Myalgia suddenly pop up around 2016-2017 when I had my first child. It was absolutely horrible for her to be in so much pain and to listen to her screaming, yelling, and sobbing. Absolutely broke my heart. She was like this for months and became a shell of herself on meds, she used to cry in her room and beg for the end, eventually, she got surgery and it finally went away and she hasn't relapsed since. You, and her, are absolutely amazing women. I don't live close to my Nana anymore, though we talk most days. Watching your videos reminds me of her and the warmth, comfortable conversation, and love that being around her gives me and my children. Thank you for being so kind, so vulnerable, and for making content that is so uplifting. Our household really loves you x

I just wanted to thank you for sharing, I can understand some of your symptoms as I have idiopathic intracranial hypertension, pretty much to much spinal fluid going up to the brain and causing way to much pressure, I had a vp shunt(tubing that goes into my brain, through a machine and down behind my ear and ends in my lower abdomen) put in, in January 2020 in Wellington because if I didn’t get it I would be completely blind now, I have absolutely no peripheral vision and I still get the crushing vice like headaches 24/7 but I can see what’s in front of me and I can see my husband and my children and to me that’s a win, I know you will do well with the surgery, you are a very strong wahine I’m so proud of you for sharing, and for carrying on even through the pain, much aroha to you and your whanau 💜💜

My precious woman. I’m Canadian but live in the the Netherlands and have been suffering with this horrible condition for 5 months so I can’t imagine how you’re doing this for years. I’m writing this on June 2nd 2024: I tried carbamazepine but had a horrible experience; almost a kind of psychosis. Ended up in ER last Monday for the excruciating pain and got prescribed oxacarbazepine instead. Let’s see. I’m on oxazepam and other drugs too : bizarre for someone who never had prescription drugs before. 😵💫 TN is a crazy condition. I have ATypical as well. And like you: came out out now where. I want to find a healthy balance between meds and getting to the root. My husband told me we’ll look anywhere for solutions. Luckily like you I have a wonderful husband and without that I think I’d be a goner. Please keep me posted on how you’re doing. 🙏 I truly want to know. ❤

Hi Stacey. I’ve had TN for at least 30 years and it’s probably connected to my MS. I’m one of the lucky ones that only get the attacks every few weeks and then only for a few seconds for a couple of days. Worst ones are a couple of minutes when I feel it’s worse than being tazered in the face, but usually it’s over and I’m back to normal the instant it stops. I can’t imagine how hard your condition has been for you as mine affects me for such small amounts of time. I’m glad you have the inner strength to deal with it. Appreciate your cooking videos and you come across as very genuine, and that’s pretty rare these days.

I want to reach out to you to offer any help I can for you. One of the reasons why I made a video about my journey was to find others with this. It is such a hard thing to go through and it doesn't matter how supportive people are around you, they will never understand the level of pain you are now enduring. Hi , I commented on one of your you tubes about our sons TN op . Dr Tan who actually was the one that found the TN problem and it is called the suicide disease . Read Dr Tans story it is wonderful . He works at the Gold Coast . Our son has a what is like a pool noodle around the nerve . We actually have photos of his op and the noodle . Plus we have a video of the nerve pulsing . They gave us an option to see the op and we said yes but didn’t watch for a while . He had to have a second op as brain fluid was dripping through his nose because the glue had come away from the repair . After his op they had to take him off all meds for 24 hrs as he had been on so many prior and the op ones weren’t working . It was hard to watch . I will add you to my prayers

I'm so very sorry you're having to go through this. I'm praying you get better soon 🙏. I had a sister that had the very symptoms that you're describing and the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. She lost her eyesight and was in excruciating pain. But I was wondering what happened to you and I missed your videos

Whangarei Hospital, the WORST hospital in the World diagnosed the patient with stress. Baby doctor was adamant that despite all the evidence it was definitely stress. Thanks be to God for the 'older' GP who took one minute to diagnose this hideous disorder. It has come and gone, treated with Tegratol which has worked. Still wanting to slap the baby doctor who knew it all. As a nurse I KNEW the baby was wrong, but as is typical at Whangarei Hospital, if you query anything you are deemed a high security risk. SO GRATEFUL AND GLAD YOU ARE FEELING BETTER. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL AND YOUR STRENGTH. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK.

My Mum has had TN for 30 years. She has had so many surgeries and procedures- none have given her relief. She suffers terrible stabbing pains every day. Hers can be triggered from reading, talking on 12:29 the phone, stress. She has also suffered a stroke which has taken away her memory. She is in her 80’s and cant remember how old we are or when our birthdays are. She will tell you the same stories over and over, and cannot keep up with conversations. It is very sad. I wouldn’t wish TN on anyone.

Yep, I have it. I don't know why it started. I did have a wisdom removed 2 months before it started, don't know if that had anything to do with it. When it began it reached the cheek and the jawline. I honestly thought that I had bone cancer or something and that my time was up. The doctor immediately knew what it was and gave me tegretol, sorry spelling, which has done the trick. The drug is for epileptics and is horrible. It affects my eyesight and I can't do anything.

I also have trigeminal neuralgia and am on anti seizure medication. I also have several nerve issues that cause pain in other parts of my body. I do wonder if they are all related? I also have pelvic congestion syndrome which is also related to veins and nerves. Having vericose veins also makes me wonder if they are all related to compression on nerves that causes acute pain. 😢

You are strong and courageous, but I wish you didn't need to be. I have the intermittent kind of TN. When I'm having a flare, movement is a trigger. I don't have to tell you how much I don’t want to move! But, life. Things need doing. People think it can't be as bad as you say or you wouldn't be talking, smiling, going about your business. You'd be on your knees. What they don't get about chronic pain is the chronic part. Your have a choice: you can be curled in a fetal position in terrible pain or you can get on with living life in terrible pain. Either way, you're in pain. But one of those options lets you have some life. For people who have never experienced TN, have you ever had a really bad toothache needing a root canal? Worse than that. More like having the root canal without being numbed first. Or maybe you've had sciatica, which is also a neuralgia. But the trigeminal nerve is more sensitive. Think sciatica times 3. Or 4. Most people would be on their knees crying out for it to stop if they had so much pain. But when it's unremitting, 24/7, at some point you have to live your life around it. So yes, you're courageous. But you don't have much of a choice. Given the chance, you'd choose to live without the pain. I'm very sorry you had to give up your dream job which you worked so hard to achieve. That's a loss which must be grieved, almost as much as the death of a friend, because it was a piece of your identity. I'm glad you've thought of another career where you are helping people, because that's your nature. I can see that in you. I won't wish you strength and courage, because you have plenty of those. I wish you periods of respite when you don’t need to be strong or courageous; times when you can safely lay down the burden of being strong and courageous.
