On CW: few years ago Frederico made a video with Tim Mosso confidently predicting CW would go bankrupt. They were laughing about the brand. Got that one a tiny bit wrong, it seems.
It always cracks me up when so called "experts" make proclamations that are way off:) Thanks for bringing that up:)

AP has been going after rappers and athletes forever now. They gave up on being "timeless and classically styled" long ago. They'll market to any group that can afford a RO. The fact that they're still even considered a Holy Trinity brand is a joke..Lange should take the spot.

The only reason why AP/Patek blew up was because of the rappers/athletes or new money pretending to be better than the typical "buy a rolex" to show you're successful. It wasn't that long ago that people began to praise Patek as the best watch brand, Patek primarily makes dress watches, not something someone would wear everyday. But they touted it as just being better than rolex, so they could look down on rolex owners for being basic.

I’ve had a few CW’s in my collection, and hands down they’re my favorite watches under $2k. The quality, finishing, and overall build are unbeaten for the price. My CW is built 95% as good as my Black Bay 58, for 1/4th the price. Definitely recommend CW

I just bought the CW C60 Trident Pro 300 for around $1,200 (rubber strap + bracelet). It is by far one of the best watches I own... It rivals my Omega Seamaster - the only thing is the Selita movement. If they could get their movement manufacturer (Synergies Horlogeres) to develop movements that offer a bit more than Selita (improved power reserve, decoration, etc...) they would be in a league of their own.

They do, or should I say ‘did’. I have a C60 Trident Pro 600 with their in-house 5 day chronometer movement. It is quite outstanding. Unfortunately it was a limited edition of 300 but I’m sure they will repeat with some minor alterations.

I own a few less expensive quartz and manual watches but aspire to own an automatic. I also like simpler, retro designs and appreciate things with a degree of quality that aren't too ostentatious. There's still a cachet for Swiss made timepieces that appeals. Christopher Ward 'ticks several boxes' for me yet doesn't seem to be especially expensive. They've not chosen a faux Swiss sounding brand name (cough, 'Bremont') neither do they overdo it with 'lifestyle' marketing. Plenty to like.

I actually disagree on your take of leaving the crown in the hacking position. It _does_ harm. These springs are designed to release their energy. Always allow them to fully unwind when not in use, otherwise the material is unnecessarily put under permanent stress and it will wear out faster. Even when they are in constant use they're allowed to release energy perpetually at all times, which is not the case when they are in hacking mode. Don't do it.

I own two Christopher Wards, the C60 Trident Pro and a C60 Elite 1000. They are interesting watches, but I can tell they are not ultra-premium by wearing them. I would call them "above good". Good finishes, nice dials, interesting hands, amazing cases...but they are heavy and the power reserve is disappointing. I have yet to see the power reserve last over 34 hours on either model. It seems like they are always out of power. The self-winding mechanism does not seem efficient to me. The C60 Elite, even though it's made of Titanium, it's still kind of heavy and bulky. I do like their light catcher cases but the movement is just ok. Both of these units I ordered direct and had them imported to the US. I wish they would make a 40mm unit with date and Titanium and a better power reserve. If that was available I would go back, but I had my fill at this point. They are nice watches, just go slow.

The logo on their old C11 Pilot watches were nice, IMO.
I owned a couple of CW watches. Very good quality for the bucks. You can't go wrong. Just the resell-value ist bad, but this goes with many small brands and even big ones.
Based on the comments CW gets a lot of love from the collectors! As for me February 2024 I will receive my powder blue dial and strap Bel Canto (chimer). This is a watch I couldn’t pass up (especially) as you said “ for the price “.
I always operated under the assumption that reputable secondary market dealers, like the amazing Fed, crack open almost all of the closed case back watches that pass through their hands so that they can verify what they purchased is legit before selling it on. I would also assume that process included snapping a few pics for their records.

@@FedericoTalksWatchesdon't you find that photos of the movement would most likely be used by buyers to lower the offer? Especially with franken movements, corrosion, or scratches etc. which for the most part don't necessarily affect function, but can certainly affect value. For the dealer it seems that there's very little upside to photograph the movement unless it is very good. IMO smart sellers don't show the movement, smart buyers insist. Props to you for opening vintage.
I own the new 36mm Sealander. The watch is honestly just superb when it comes to the finishing. It's no omega, id say I found it equivalent to a Tudor. Very accurate and the dial is stunning, second best red sunburst I've seen just under the moser fume dial.

I have a friend at work that is considering the Christopher Ward 12. It will be his first nice watch and I am totally encouraging him to go down the rabbit hole. I have a Monta Noble that fits in well with my Grand Seiko, Tudor, and Oris. I think Monta is another small brand to look at as well.
I don’t understand. If you’re buying used watches (to resell), and you’re verifying that the watches are authentic, wouldn’t you be opening the caseback to verify that anyway? Why not snap a shot of the movement when you verify its authenticity? Not being a dick. I’m actually curious.
I've got 2 CW watches; they're both beautiful and great value for money for Swiss made watches. In an interview, the owners pointed out they do a 3 times mark-up for components bought from the same place as a globally known Swiss brand who charge 30 times mark-up. Also, Dr Roger Smith raves about CW quality and value. Dr Smith's watches start at £250,000 (if you're lucky).
Appreciate the CW quality, but their logo has never appealed to me, not the original, the revised Christopher Ward text or the new symbol iteration. It’s the only thing that’s stopped me pulling the trigger.

I had a CW and it was well put together and I really liked the watch. However, I was having issues with the winding. When winding the entire watch would vibrate. I returned it since it was under warranty. I had issues with them shipping back to the states and much red tape along the way. When it finally returned, it was doing the same thing. Maybe it was just the movement, but the customer service was not good. The watch ran well but I eventually sold the watch.
You're not the only one who had issues with C.W. watches! got my 1st 38mm Trident Diver in 2014... lasted good for about 4 years then i had the vibrating thing also when winding my watch after getting home from work, eventually the winding mech completely broke... i still could still wear it for work etc. by just shaking it good twice a day to keep it moving... eventually took to a local jeweler to have it fixed! well, it was fixed with a now smaller crown for just under 200.00, but the watch is no longer water resistant! that same year in 2019 i got another newest version of the same watch since it was on sale for just over 400.00 (with a leather strap instead) so just about a month ago the exact same problem happened with my 2nd C.W. watch, but this one won't even run 12 hours without stopping completely... don't know if i should just stay clear of automatic/mechanical watches all together, or if this is just a problem with that brand of watch... good thing you sold it, hopefully it doesn't end up breaking like my 2 watches did...
Did you make a pun on the Christopher Ward end bit? I think probably it was unintended, but very amusing.

I sold my two AP watches the minute they collaborated with Travis Scott. I cannot think of a much more worse anti-thesis collaboration at odds with AP's historical brand image. Travis Scott is someone I would never ever want to be associated with. Hence, I chose not to be associated with AP ever again. They are on their way to becoming a street brand, and that is fine, but certainly there will be a shift of clientale that is guaranteed to follow this move.

If you dont look at the movement how can you be sure what it is? Potentially tens of thousands of dollars profit for a single piece is what drive the multibillion dollar black market, where you'll buy a Grade A clone exterior w/ an ETA movement inside, it gets 80 hr reserve - no different than an HP. Paying 17k for what you think is a clean preowned AP. It happens every day all day long online. You may see it in things like the markedly poor quality of the lume, but you also may not
