I have three small boats that I love. I went to Florida seven years on a 3 month tour for bass. I learned how to bass fish and is still my favorite thing to do. I went from Holiday Park in Fort Lauderdale to the holy lands a little north so many great lakes in Florida one of my dreams is to fish with you one day down there. Oh man, little aluminum boats are great. I’ve taken mine to some crazy places. I decided long ago not to fall into the trap of having a $65,000 bass boat. Purely by choice of course lol. Got a $1,500 dollar stump jumper instead. That freed me up so I could buy $65,000 dollars worth of gear to pack inside it. :)

Mr Martin, I truly enjoy your videos. I grew up watching your fishing show & I've learned so much from what you have shared & I'm still learning new stuff watching you on youtube. I did have a couple of suggestions about your method here. Some cheap ramp tops added to the end of your boards would make it easier to load & unload as it would make the board ends flush with the tailgate. Alternately, but more costly, you could buy some folding aluminum ramps and cover the tops sides of the ramps in carpet. That would allow you to fold them up and lock them in the bed of your truck while you're out fishing. Anyhow, this is an excellent idea on making it easier to load that boat. I did have a question about the vehicle in the background at 4:53 . Is that some sort of swamp buggy? Whatever it is, it looks like it could be a lot of fun.

Roland your awesome!
@billlindner5 жыл бұрын
Like the wench. Mounting it at the front of the truck bed might be better, with a 12v power switch in the cab. That way, it could be used for other things and not be a trip hazard in the boat. Also, you can mount a small pulley on your storage rack and pull it back out. Also, they sell metal ramp ends for boards, at Harbor Freight. They are relatively cheap and would work well for your size boards. They are used to get lighter motorcycles and lawn mowers up in the truck bed. Not criticizing Roland, just trying to be helpful.

@MARKLOCKWOOD20125 жыл бұрын
Those ez load bunk rollers from bass pro shops. I’ve installed them years ago. I got tired of replacing rotten wood. Even the pressure treated failed. It made trailering a whole lot easier. Gotta be ginger when loading. Those that read this remember leave your boat hooked to the trailer don’t un hook you’ll be sorry. Never lost a boat don’t plan on it. Even your big bass rigs leave it attached until you have it in the drink. Second get the engine running. Then have a buddy un hook. Don’t back down too far until the engine is submerged then after she’s running then back off. If you have engine issue arise you can easily pull back up the ramp or work On the boat in the water without drifting into other boaters. Next did you see how far mr. Martin has his trailer down in the water that is the correct distance . Your boat hull has to catch the bunks then winch up the rest of the way. Don’t slam bow into the trailer. You gouge out the trough at ramps from repeatedly reving engines. Next trim up the out board to where the foil is just under neath the water. Often I see boaters leave the drives down which if the trailer bounces your lower unit slams into the concrete. The. After you get parked trim the out board down to get out any remainder of the the water wipe your boat down. Drain live wells etc open or remove drain plugs if it rains coming home your boat won’t fill up. Next if you have a battery kill switch turn them off. Remove keys. People steal stuff. Lock lockers. Store rods In locked truck or car or lock rod storage.

I love that you have went the route of the working man who can’t afford the high end boats and stuff. The home made rigs are what most people do. It’s fun to improvise and improve your own system. The 2x4 thing is good but you might could devise something like a kitchen drawer system with rollers that hinge up and down that the boat will ride on into the truck. It would be safer and less likely to hurt the back if the 2x4 slips out and you pull a muscle.

The best small boat for bass fishing is a 14-foot zodiac. I don't know why more people don't use them. Extremely comfortable for a small boat and they can go anywhere. You can take them in shallower water than even a kayak is able to go in. They are extremely stable, and very light. Never damage your vehicle as they are just like a big rubber bumper. You never have to worry about hitting anything like a rock pile while drifting or using an electric motor, as you just bounce off, no damage done. Although they may not be safe in gator or shark waters ;)

Tow trucks use a wireless tail light assembly that reacts with your brakes and turn signal. You could use it vs that flag. Also some kind of metal flange on the tailgate end of those 2x4s or a spike on the other end that you can sink in the ground to hold them while you remove the boat from the pickup. Also a 8 foot bed will help but it is only available on the 250/2500 class trucks with the extra seat. I was told by ford that the f150 was now considered a soccer mom vehicle. What a joke. Go figure.
