My Two Top Dogs Get Venomous Snake And Alligator Training. Alright, ya'll I got one of the first training seasons Moose and Otto have done. The process of training our main dogs to stay clear of venomous snakes, and alligators, and Allie training Otto as a puppy. It's not just about hunting in Florida; it's a crucial skill for working dogs nationwide. Learn the importance of using ecollars for stimulation, how each venomous species has a distinct scent, and why it's vital for dogs to recognize and avoid them.

Seeing Moose react like he did to the collar broke my heart. However if a shock like that can save their lives it is so worth it. Cruel to be kind.

Not gonna lie, those e-collars have always been hard for me to watch, I've never been a fan. But I understand the purpose, and Florida wildlife is very unforgiving compared to where I live. One can only imagine, with the hunt drive of Ot' and company, how many dogs you would loose if it wasn't for these training methods. I guess the alternative would be de-fanged snakes and gators, and thats not really fair either? Anyways, love the videos as always, very educational and a great behind-the-scenes look. Take care /Mink Cowboy ;)

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, for telling it like it is on the cruelty that dog owners do to their indoor pets. One of the main reasons I don’t have a dog is I no longer live where I can let them run and be a dog.

Thanks for the discussion on working dogs. I've learned how important allowing a dog to follow its breeding really is after adopting several retired racing dogs. They love to run and you can't stop them or force them. Many people just don't get it.

Much better to have a controlled shock than a bite in the wild! I grew up with walker hounds and red bones. They love to be out there, as a kid I seen them as a pain in the arse. We had 20 or so, sometimes I miss the sounds. Sometimes 🤣

Up here in North Florida, the "Yankee plantations" have a bounty on live rattlesnakes. They put them in a cage where the dogs can't get bit and use shock collars to train their quail dogs.

Love watching all your videos, so educational and informative, watching from England and we only have grass snakes (safe) and adders (poisonous bite but antidote held at most A&E departments) we just don’t have the climate to support most of the invasive species you have to control, grey squirrels are a menace and birds in recent years or signal crayfish in our rivers. Keep up the good work “Trapper Mike” all the best Andy.

Great advice to people getting a dog. You might love Otto's bread, but he's not a family pet animal. Family friendly yes. But he needs to fulfil his purpose. Just watching him and your other dogs, you can see the joy they have for what they do. Love the work that you do. All the best to you and Allie

Years ago I drove up to Georgia to adopt two little orange striped male cats. They were called Maximus and Braveheart. I renamed them Max and Milo. Max was Max happy go lucky, but when he stepped out of line he was Maximus and he knew he had found trouble. I miss those two as I miss all the ones I have out-lived. I have Ryan, 11, from Nebraska, and Andrew, 5 and tiny, came from the shelter in Jacksonville. I appreciate what you go through to train your dogs about danger.

At one point I raised and trained gun dogs for myself and others. Sold my 6 month old pups ( English pointers) I spent a minimum 2 hours at least 4 days a week or more working with them for the first 6 months so a fella could hunt over them basic house and yard commands. My own dogs that I kept were 2 years of intense training/ after 6 months hunting over them and them running them at least for 20 minutes and advanced commands. I recall pushing 6 to 9 puppies out of the bed of my truck and driving off with them following me on dirt roads! Literally running them ragged, then doing basics and hunt training point flush on command only , and retrieve with pigeons or quail pen birds. Back then hunting esp. upland birds or waterfowl was my religion.i still got my buck and maybe an elk an or a yogi but my bird dogs were my best friends! Watching y'all train the dogs to avoid snakes and gators making me think of having a field buddy again

Keep up the good work. great advice to people wanting a working dog. Thank you for an outstanding and highly informative video. A couple decades ago my girl and I had a lab mix which we kept as a house dog in an apartment. It loved to run in the park on occasional weekends, but truth be told, even when I took it on neighborhood walks, I would yank on its chain when it stopped to smell the base of telephone poles, mailboxes, or even another dog's poop. At the time, I didn't realize that when a dog smells such things it's comparable to us humans watching the best scenes from the most incredible, awesome movie. I realize now that aside from tiny, toy dog breeds, ALL dogs need to be able to run, smell and play outdoors for hours, every single day. It's akin to animal cruelty to keep them locked inside 24-7 as many people do.

Great video. One of my dogs got bit by a copperhead in Aug 2022. She almost died. One of my neighbor's dogs (boxer) did die from a copperhead bite in 2022. Bit in the mouth. I had a dog many years ago who got a copperhead bite in the foot. He was fine, no issues. But rattlesnakes and water moccasins are much more dangerous. I'd like to find someone who does this so I can get my dogs trained. They are old now though. Venomous snakes are my biggest fear when taking my dogs out in warm weather. The snakes can be anywhere, even in your back yard. I've used an ecollar before but not for snakes.

@@HELENGodLoves E-collars do in fact shock the dog. Not as bad as some make it out, but they do in fact put out 1500-4500 volts, and for comparison, a Taser puts out 30.000-50.000 volts. The "E" in E-collar is short for Electric.
@calvinh.8882
@calvinh.8882 5 ай бұрын
The E-collar is a stand-alone system that runs on batteries, meaning it will not shock the dog worse when standing in water. The reason you got shocked worse when standing in wet grass is due to the fact that electricity from a house uses the earth as a ground, so standing on wet earth creates a much better ground.

*@FulghumCraft, Your comment is inappropriate and completely wrong. First of all, NO one else is going to shock YOUR dog. Only you can place the electo-shock training collar on your dog's neck. Second, whatever pain that the dog feels is only of a very limited duration and is FAR LESS painful than if the dog were to touch his/her nose to the live wire of a cattle/sheep/goat livestock electric fence, for example. I've experienced that sensation several times in my life, and it is a completely rude awakening to be shocked like that. Third, and most importantly, this IS NOT the deliberate torture and the inflicting of pain upon an animal for the sheer sake of human amusement. Instead, it's intended to provide a lesser animal who can't rationalize and reason their way through life's dangerous circumstances, and who is both a valuable asset to a business, as well as a loved member of a family, with an indelible memory that it will ALWAYS associate with the particular scent(s) of dangerous and venomous reptiles. It's LIFE SAVING training that is NO DIFFERENT from teaching a young child NOT to place their hands of the hot surface of a stove, into a live electrical outlet, or to look both ways before crossing a street with motor vehicles on it.*
@FulghumCraft
@FulghumCraft 5 ай бұрын
@@brucemattes5015 No you dont shock your kid when telling him not to touch the outlet.. let me shock you thru out the day... it only hurts for a second.. I trained my dog very well with love & treats! No shocking her!. If i seen someone in person doing this to a dog i would Immediately have a prblm with it say something & if the other person gets smart with an answer i would Immediately knock person out for animal abuse.. and fight it in court... In my eyes which is my Opinion just like you stated your Opinion i think its 100% animal abuse... More ways to train a dog other than shocking them...
