You should try artistic roller skating if your town doesn’t have an ice skating rink. I live in Australia so ice rinks are hard to come but I started skating on roller skates when I was 4 after I begged my parents to start ice skating but we had no ice rinks near us. 15 years later I’m just about to start it back up after battling injury for a few years but I would 100% recommend it if you love ice skating but it’s not practical where you live

Some people just don’t have that luck to land it quickly but it doesn’t mean you’ll never land it With me it took less then 2 months in the first 2 weeks I landed it clean on harness Then I took a few week break (for competition) 3 weeks later I landed it 🤷🏽‍♀️it’s weird

Well I am starting to learn it now, didn't yet land it and it's my 5th year of figure skating. But at least I am landing the other jumps. I think it depends also how quickly you start jumping in your lessons. I have been to a lot of trainings with other adults where Noone wanted to jump so we did a lot of steps and stuff.

Thank you so much for this. I've been so upset lately, because I'm 13 and to do figure skating, but almost everybody says that's too old to start. I want to do it so badly. I cry watching performances, and it sucks that I can't do it myself. The closest ice rink to where I live is thirty minutes away and my dad thinks skating is a joke. This video has truly inspired me. I'll keep working hard, and my dad isn't against me getting dance classes so I'll have to settle for that if I can get them. Either way, this video has really taken a toll on me. You are beautiful person, inside and out. Thank you for reminding me to always get back up.
@zoemcamino
@zoemcamino 6 жыл бұрын
You can never be too old to start and if your dad thinks skating is a joke then he should really experience before he talk. I’m not trying to sound rude or anything it’s just figure skating means ditching your life for this type of stuff and training multiple times a week only to fall and get broken down. Figure skaters can’t hang out with any friends other than people at the rink because they practice so much and being in homeschool or independent studies. I hope you get to skate someday just remember whenever that is it’s never too late to start.

Wow. Good job for one. For two, I'm super jealous because at that age, the nearest indoor rink was an hour away and the nearest outdoor one-people would drive over it and many times the good patch was about 5 feet across. 20 years on, we finally have refrigeration in the outdoor rink that people don't drive over..I did get to drive the zamboni one night, though, and that's something most skaters don't get to do.

Wow thats beautiful, im jealous xD Where I live, school and sport is separated. We don’t have real school teams (unless you visit a special school that focuses on sport). You have to find a sport club that practices figure skating yourself and eventually there are mostly teams who search for very young children because they want them to be serious athletes and compete in big competitions. I wish there were teams where you could skate as a hobby. But anyway , I really enjoyed watching! You did a great job :)

great progress, but the reason you're not getting any air and you're so loose in your jumps is because you're not approaching and setting up for your jump correctly, you're not building up enough speed and you're not turning tightly enough to be able to take off. that's also why you're landing wobbly, your takeoff is uneven. your coach needs to teach you how to correctly take off. your arms are also all over the place in air, that's why you have such better jumps and landings with your arms over your head

I know this may be a unrealistic dream; to become an Olympic figure skater although I haven’t started yet. I’m already 14 turning 15 this summer but this helped out a lot, on many wiki pages and such it said that it would be pretty hard to compete and such. That brought my hopes down (although I haven’t even started yet). It may seem unrealistic, but I am willing to do it. This video helped more... I am sorry I can’t really express my feelings and such in sentences but, I actually cried the first time I watched this. This gave me courage and I felt like I can actually do it. Thank you very much 😭

That One Otaku Becoming a Olympic skater will be impossible, I’m sorry to say it, but most of them start very young and stop going to school, just to concentrate fully on skating and training*. However, if you are athletic and have some experience, and start training every day, then you may be able to compete in some other big competitions! :D not as big as the Olympics, but it’s still good *Lets not forget they have diets to maintain an specific weight, they are homeschooled, they mostly train like 6 hours a day or more, etc. It’s not easy to be an Olympic champion, and going means you need to be into the best of your country, it’s not just a little training, some hope and luck; it’s leaving your entire life, blood and tears in the ice, and accepting defeat more times than victory. Having your feet hurt like hell, with a lot of green spots, your coach saying you are doing it wrong... the only beautiful thing about figure skating is what you leave in the ice, since your body and will is completely ruined, lol :P Sorry if I sound rude or bad! English is not my first language and I don’t know how to properly explain myself!

Mary Winter it’s fine xD I know how hard it is to become an Olympic athlete and how much time I need to put into it to become one, but i just want to bet on the chances I might have, if I can go to the olympics starting at this age and all that would be great but overall, I’m fine with being able to do many skills and just have fun with figure skating ^*^

That One Otaku yes! Set more realistic goals. You will have a lot of fun anyway, and Olympics are not the end of everything :P

This is really impressive! Did you say you never really skated before? Or like me played on frozen ponds and stuff growing up? Natural talent. You're high school had a figure skating team? I wish mine had! So cool. Your progress is really awesome. I started really trying to learn everything when I was 17, bought some decent skates with support, worked really hard. I had to pay for my own skates, ice time, and lessons. My parents would never let me taking lessons growing up. So by the time I could I was 17. My goal was double jumps, but didn't get there. I worked with a teacher for a short while, then she moved. Otherwise I was self taught. Thanks for posting, really inspiring :0)

Hey!! I know it's been 2 years since you wrote this, but I am 17 right now, and I'm considering to start figure skating as a hobby! I really have no experience, I've only gone to people's ice skating bday parties..., and because of COVID, it's hard to just go to skate rink and start lessons :( I just don't know where to start or if I really really want to commit to learning, I really connected with your comment, so I thought your words of wisdom would help me? I hope your figure skating journey hasn't ended, and thank you for taking time to read this!

My high school had nothing. This is amazing!! May I ask what skates you started with? Did you purchase blades separately? Would love to know what's good for a beginner who intends to pursue skating like you (recreational but with some moves). Thanks and keep going!!!

Do you have any tips on how to achieve your axel? I’m on my 3rd year of skating (I skate 2 times a week) and I can’t seem to land it. Also tips for backspin? I just need some fellow skater advice :>

This video gave me confidence that even though I'm adult I can do it. You did great job and I hope some day I will be able to skate as well as you do😍😍😊 Also I wanted to ask is it expensive to train with a coach? Is it expensive at all?

I wanna start skating, but I'm a person who needs variety and if not quits quite easily. I don't want to dissapoint my parents and they also let me do horseriding so I don't want them to feel like they have to spend all their money on me. In my talent test figure skating was orange (that means not the best but a maybe) I also dk if imma be able to combinate this with school and horseriding.... Ugh I'm confused....
