I'm still using my Macbook Pro 13inch (mid 2012) i7. I upgraded it to 16gb ram and 256gb ssd. I was still able to use After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop with minimal lags. As for the rendering part, there you'll notice that it takes a while, escpecially if you render certain effects on After Effects. But still it's a usable machine in 2018.

Thank you so much for this video because i also purchase a 2012 used macbook pro about a year ago because i didn't want to sit at my Mac desktop all the time. I noticed while editing my videos in fcpx it was so slow it stalls and freezes i took it in and the computer place Suggested the flash. I honestly thought they was trying to take me for extra money. I then this evening decided to purchase a refurbished Mac book pro from Apple until i saw the Prices. So glad I found your video because you just stated the same thing the repair place stated. However it sounded more believable coming from you because you have the exact same one as well you described everything they stated. I will be bringing my pro back in to get those upgrades. Thank you so much as you just saved me over 2k. Definitly subbing. Great video

iʻm not doing video work (yet) ~ iʻm an aspiring actor and lighting/sound designer, but like you, i "depend" on my gear AND more importantly, my creativity and skills. i was actually looking for a remote screen to help with my current stack of lighting design gigs, and this video showed up! iʻm using the same laptop as you, and just bumped up to 16G RAM yesterday, and am saving for a 1TB SSD for DAW work. i solidly agree with you about tech. your pep talk really hits home for me: are we creating? does our gear help, or hinder (regardless of how old or new it is?). iʻm saving your video for the pep talk!!!!

I've got the same system that I upgraded to a 256 SDD and 16 gig of ram from Crucial. way cheaper to upgrade from Crucial than spending ridiculous money on apple ram and SSD. this thing boots up in about 5 seconds. Only think I'm missing is a 4k screen and I was considering (but probably not just yet) one of the new iMac's because frankly the specs on them are really robust for the cost. an iMac 3.4 quad core i5 4k display with 8 gig of ram and a 512 ssd is going for 1500$ and even less if you get an apple certified refurbished model which I always do and have never had a problem. so when your trusty MBP finally needs replacement you should consider one of the iMacs because their specs are as robust as 5000$ Mac pro's from just a few years ago.

I've been using adobe CC software on my mid-2010 iMac and it's still pretty good. It's not fast at all, but it gets the job done. :)
@MarcosRochaTV6 жыл бұрын
Exactly... "it gets the job done." That iMac is 10 years old and it still works.

JewelKnightJess do you edit videos or just photos?

Hey, just to clarify, you're editing 4K footage on a 2012 MB Pro from external Hard Drives? What model number is the MBPro? Did you upgrade to SSD's? Thanks!
@MarcosRochaTV6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it has a 128GB Samsung SSD. Mid 2012 13" inch.

Good stuff man I have the same laptop.
@MarcosRochaTV6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if I am not mistaken, people have started to buy this model because it is easier to upgrade the hardware. The newer iMac laptops are much harder.
@behindthemattebox3246 жыл бұрын
Marcos Rocha this is the laptops that they gave us in uni. Probably for those exact reasons of upgrading its guts

Hi Marcos, I am actually planning to buy this macbook, will it be fast enough to render through modelling softwares such as 3ds max and Maya used for architectural designs.
@MarcosRochaTV5 жыл бұрын
I don't know Edwin. I know it works for video editing, which is very taxing on the computer.

Thanks for the helpful video, you got a new sub! I might buy a late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro 15" with 128GB SSD, 16GB, Intel GPU at 1500MB. No Nvidia M750 GeForce....that was my worry, if it can handle the 4K footage from my OSMO, I'd be happy as a clown.
@MarcosRochaTV6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I am pretty sure that computer will do just fine.

Thanks Marcos! I'm ordering it this afternoon.

for some reason I've got it in to my head I need a 15"MacBook Pro, or an iMac even if they are from 2012 when I have a 2015 13" MacBook Pro and I think the reason might be because I am bored and have not much else to think about.
@MarcosRochaTV6 жыл бұрын
Exactly... this is the same reason I am always buying camera equipment... I get bored.
