Something that was briefly touched upon in the manga but unfortunately did not make the transition into the anime is the concept of "quirk counseling" in which kids with "socially unaceptable" quirks (like Toga) were persuaded to repress their powers and some of the impulses that came with them. This repression is what built up in Toga for years until she eventually ended up killing her classmate that she had a crush on.

Thirteen talked about this in Season 1 just before they got attacked for the first time. The class was supposed to be about rescue and learning to control your quirk since most quirks with hero potential are dangerous enough to kill.

Basically she can turn anything she touches into rail-gun ammo. Remember early an ep where they played hero vs villain in class with the fake bomb. She used the pillar as a bat & the floating debris she smacked with them caused so much damage. She has the potential to cause massive catastrophic destruction. 😬

For me it was really shocking to see Ochacos quirk be used in a lethal way. Even tho it seems obvious to be used that way you could never imagine HER doing that, but now a character that would do that has it too

This is what I meant when I said there was one female character I thought was better written than Uraraka in my opinion, Toga. I think its so interesting and really tragic. The fact that something biological that an individual has no control over and (canonically) influences their behavior in a way that society deems unacceptable and punishable but does not even think to guide is so sad to me. There was a panel they left out of this episode for some reason (even though it's so tiny it could have been included). During the scene where Curious talks to Toga while shes on the ground, Curious mentions a thing called "Quirk Counseling" that was meant to help young kids learn about others differences in a healthy way but that apparently its a failure and does the opposite. It's funny that even though society has something to "help" since they don't really care about it, it fails. Also, I heard these other KZbinrs mention that if Toga was helped correctly, she and society could have learned that its possible for her to live a less violent life. They mentioned that Toga's partner could learn to maybe get blood transfusions to help with her blood-love obsession. I found that interesting and in a world where some people have bird heads, box head (a random background character in season 3), and full body scales, it shouldn't be something that far fetched.

I think Vigilantes has an interesting perspective on villains in one of the chapters presented. It would be neat if you read the rest of the series. Villains are essentially just criminals who use their quirk to committ a crime. If you robbed a bank with a gun, you're a criminal, but if you used your quirk, you're a villain. This obviously has bias towards mutant/heteromorphic types since their quirk is always on, many times regardless of the crime they'll be labeled villains. People who can't control their quirks also get lumped into this. In a side story, there was a man who released toxic gas, but he only does it because not using his quirk and holding it in would start to harm himself. Would that make him a villain? One of the first things this series has shown was that not all men were created equal. So it begs the question, what is just, what is normal in this society?

Yeah, this is a good point since Toga has a quirk related to blood and therefore has an obsession with the one thing her body was made to use, being blood of other organisms, should she not have the right to take in the blood of birds and such? It's not like she'll get sick since, again, her quirk changed her bodily structure to apply different blood, so what's the issue as long as she didn't take human blood? That's the struggle, and that's what broke her. Lots of quirks make society think a person us "broken" or "demented". The same think went for albinos and people with split personality. The issue is should the government regulate a God-given genetic? That is what Re-Destro is fighting for, absolute freedom. Being told to not use your quirk definitely does a number on your mental and emotional state as well as how much you may devalue yourself.

In the manga, curious talks about the failure of quirk counciling on the youth and how they need a better system to nurture those who can’t handle their personalities being affected by their quirk. ALSO the feel good Inc. is actually filming every single thing on the fight right now to spin the story to the media. AND AND after curious dies, redestro actually cries and says “life is just so precious”

i expected so much more of this arc from reading the manga and it was honestly a massive letdown. even the sound design in that scene fucking sucks like that was supposed to be just as epic as any of deku's impactful moments and all they did was add some mysterious little jingle over a still frame.

Not too much was cut from this part in the arc, except they did cut out a defining moment for ReDestro. If you aren’t reading the manga chapters beyond the first 3 of the arc, all you need to know is he cried after hear about Curious’s death. Beyond this point, it’s basically smooth sailing for the adaptation for the most part.

It's interesting how this arc alone has more deaths than the rest of the seasons combined, and its not even close. I think from season 1-4 there's like 15 ish deaths. And in this episode, Shigaraki alone killed over 15 in one moment.

The quirk laws were made to prevent things like All for One, to prevent people from abusing their powers. The law states that only those with permission to use their quirk use it. The permits are laboral or heroic ones, some people get their permissions to do a regular job, others who get permission are those who study at a hero course and are heroes. Sidequicks can use their quirks, but the responsability falls under the owner of the hero agency like of students under their class teacher. The use of quirks without permission, even under self-defense lke when Deku, Iida and Todoroki fought Stain, is illegal and is punished with jailtime. The liberation army wants those laws to be gone and quirks to be used freely.

What happened with Toga was indeed a quirk evolution. That is made with training or under a life-treatening or stressful situation like Toga lived, allowing their quirks to do things that they couldn't before.

Bones didn't actually use the full soundtracks for the arc, and some of them were switched. Toga's soundtrack is called "Toga's Nature" and it's incredibly fitting, there's birds chirping and children laughing. It's haunting and creepy but it's beautiful. You can also check "Mine Woman" which is Curious theme song, also a great one.

I have two problems with this episode, first they "justify" toga obsession making it a consequence of her quirk, but is the first time that we hear about that (there are multiple blood quirk users like Vlad King and Stain and they don't have any problem) second, how sometimes people can be thrown through buildings and get hit by an explosion, fire ecc... and they are fine, and now toga (after being hit by several quirks, one literally transform people in bombs and she had internal explosion, kill 50+ people by letting them fall

I know making Toga's case as an allegory for some LGBTQ+ people is kind of a bad example as having different sexual desire is not dangerous like having bloodlust desire. But in many parts of the Asian society they do think of LGBTQ+ *natural* desire as dangerous, unknown, and can't be compensated and should be repressed. idk. idk. but the message is the same. If you're born with something, no one's got to decide what to do with your life but you, perhaps with some assistance from properly knowledgable people/pros and community.

I dont know how much have you read from the manga, but in the first numbers, when they fill you in with the basic lore, they establish that the use of quirks by civilians is heavily restricted. In the anime this isnt really shown so the motivation for the LA feels weird at times. That's why we dont really see people other than the licensed heroes use their quirks and why the Stain incident needed to be secret to avoid legal implications for Iida, Shoto and Deku.

Of all the league of villains I feel for the most are Toga and Twice. I feel like under the right circumstances they would have a better life and not be murders lol. The events of this episode seem like a very sudden dark shift to me. Furst some of the liberation army members accept their role as human bombs and then Toga murdering a large group of people in the brutal utilization of the ability of one of the series' most cheerful characters.

I won't lie in saying this portion of the season was probably the weakest for me. Don't me wrong, it's not bad, it's still good, but it feels as if this whole arc was a bit rushed. I'm not sure how much of the manga they cut, but I do feel this season would have benefited more from a 3 Cour season allowing them to flesh out the league more. That's just my opinion though. I still liked it, I just wanted more of it.

You're right, they rushed this arc horribly while also cutting 2 chapters worth of contents at the beginning of the arc that could've fleshed out spinner and re destro way more plus the worldbuilding of mutant discrimination, quirk counselling, mla's ideology as a whole and re destro's humanity after seeing Curious's demise along with his other liberation warriors' sacrifices, if they didn't rush this arc this would last just as long as the previous class 1A vs 1B joint training arc because this arc in the manga only got 1 chapter less than that arc, yes, ONE
