Yeah, first time I voice trained 20 years ago it was definitely something to be turned on or off at will and it was *fun*. These techniques, especially those larynx ones, they take longer to train and you can get a bit paranoid about slipping back. At this point, it would be effort to switch back and attempting to do so even just for effect gives high anxiety (which is strange, after having done it for fun and hijinks 20 years ago) so you kinda bounce back.

Voice is muscle memory, and when you don't use it, you literally slowly forget how to. If someone like Icky wanted to use their old voice, it would take training much like the training it took to get there in the first place. Or, in other words, voice is magic.

Her videos could be a lot shorter and useful. I don't know what's exactly the thing that she does or doesn't do but, there's something about her delivery that simply doesn't click with anybody. That's why there are quite a few other content creators like Lucy opening every lesson with something along the lines of: do you wish to [...] without the need to have a masters degree to understand [...]. Those comments are in direct response to Transvoicelessons. It is really a shame because she surely has an honorary phd on the subject.

@neiljerram336 ай бұрын
Thanks Icky, this is much appreciated. I've recently been following a similar approach - just go for it in all everyday conversations, after having a little initial training (in my case with a speech therapist) - and I've kinda lost track of exactly where my average voice is now, and if it's where I'd like it to be there, and so I have been unsure whether this is the right track. As you say, when I've been ill, or at the end of a long day with lots of talking or singing, it tends to fall deeper again. So it's very encouraging to hear that you followed a similar approach and experienced similar temporary setbacks. I think the only thing you didn't mention is the psychology of it. After my speech therapist told me "we've worked on everything you need to know now, you just need to go and do it," it still seemed an immense psychological barrier to try to start using a different voice with people who already knew me - and it was, but surprisingly that dissipated very quickly after the first 3 or 4 such times.

A tip I learnt is that if you're in a position where you can afford something like voice training with a tutor, do singing lessons! Singing lessons will help give you a LOT of information of how your voice works and helps play around with it, then use your knowledge along with online resources for feminising your voice. Plus if you get a singing teacher who is very open, they can even help you feminise your singing so you get singing and talking for the price of one!

For me personally I've been using the method that the voice-troll KZbinr Natt used to get where they are, essentially you start to just imitate the valley-girl Mean Girls type voice so much that you get really good at it (for me I've been using the time it takes to walk to and from school to practice), and then once you are really good at imitating that caricature of a voice you start to work down slowly trying to loose the accent and gain your natural one. In my opinion it worked pretty well, the important thing is doing it a lot over a long period of time.

It is important to simply commit to using your fem voice all the time. Once I could combine all the different elements together, I found myself unable to automatically use the voice when I wanted to. I had been practicing for about half a year to get to that point, but after committing to only using that voice in every situation, I felt like it became consistently feminine in about a month. After two months, I tried to boymode for safety reasons, but couldn't get my voice to pass as male. I would automatically start in my current voice, only to desperately try to make it masc. There seems to be a mental block that locks me into one type of voice in real world situations. When I try to talk in a masc voice without extensively preparing for it, it sounds more like a girl trying to talk in a deep voice. I can sing better in a masc voice, but that's because I practiced switching to not stress my fem voice and specifically voice trained with singing.

Something I realized that changed lately is that I started singing songs by male artists in my femme voice. For like the last two months I was singing along to Disney Princess songs in the shower and it really helped me. 😅

I can do the girl voice fine. As long as Im alone and just reading stuff out loud or things I've memorized but as soon as I have to think even a little about what I want to say (or be nervous because there are people listening) I cant do it at all

I love your positive attitude how you were going to full commit to using your feminine voice compared to just practicing it X number of hours/day! I also aplaud you a lot for working on chaging your vocal pitch/tone on your own compared to professional services, or surgery to fix your voice. The sad reality of transition is how HRT will not change your voice much. Surgeries are even more riskier too.

One thing I've noticed that I think would probably help on the very last syllable, slightly lower the pitch at the very end. Essentially splitting the final syllable into 2 tones that are only a hertz apart, and likely unnoticeable to an untrained ear. This kind of thing will be easier for those with a vocal or intermediate/advanced wind instrument background but can be done with practice.

This is extremely similar to what I did. I had a little bit more time with more help training but the pattern of everything is very much how I did it and it works and it's surprising how different it is now that I've been pretty natural about things versus right now it's actually really hard for me to go deep

Great timing. Heard myself on a recording yesterday and I hate the sound of my voice, so deep. But Trans Voice Lessons also dropped a new video yesterday and then you with this one so gonna try again to train my voice.

I just recently discovered your channel and even though I'm 3 years into my transition (1 year medically! 🎉), my voice has been such a massive source of dysphoria for me and I always felt intimidated by the training. Thank you for inspiring me to give it another shot. I've been doing exercises here and there for about a week and I just listened to my recording on my tracking app and it was the first time I ever heard my voice and I didn't just hear a man 🥹🖤 Thank you so much for helping me start to love my voice again and to anyone who is on the fence or intimidated like I was, just go for it! You won't regret it 🩵🤍🩷
