My husband wore a promise ring from 18 until we got married at 23 as a sign of respect and promise of our future together. He would have popped the question when we were right out of highschool (high school sweethearts) but he knew I wanted to graduate college before saying yes. Our first wedding was great but definitely not what we wanted since we were both pressured into essentially have a big party for our families. A few years later he asked if we could get married again and ended up renewing our vows in the middle of a Forrest on a Tuesday (our anniversary). He bought me my dream dress off Etsy and we got to get ready together and we had a small dinner that evening with a few close friends and family. Then we went to Disney World for a honeymoon 2.0 and had the time of our lives! It was such a great way to honor our marriage and we honestly look back at that so fondly. Highly recommend an elopement style of marriage ceremony

I used to work weddings and one of the unique traditions I saw was the couple buried a bottle of bourbon at the wedding site the week before and dug it up at the wedding and took a shot. Apparently it’s to have good weather on your wedding day. I’m not sure where the tradition started, but I always thought it was kind of cool.

In my wlw relationship, I did ask my fiancé’s mom for permission because of her views. I love my fiancé & I respect her mother. It’s the least I could do. She’s fully supportive as opposed to my family. So I felt very comfortable asking her “permission.” It was more letting her know my intentions. But it went really well.

Hi Rachel, I am from Germany and my husband an I did the log sawing ceremony 8 years ago at our Wedding. Together, it went very quickly. You only have to pull, not to push. Greetings from Germany

I grew up in Germany and haven't heard of the log cutting but Germans do a version of the kidnapping thing too. But the groom has to find the bride and she is typically "taken" by some if the groomsmen to a pub and it leads to fun and drinks when theyre reunited. So strange, I know. 😅

Rachel, Rachel, Rachel... Also think about safety in hotels. Having a whole hotel with just tile (hard) flooring all throughout would be so unsafe! You would need someone stationed on every floor or in every hall just to keep the floors clean/dry. Too many slip and fall situations.

I’m guessing you’ve never been in a European hotel, they are all tiled,or marble flooring. It’s also,so much more hygienic than gross carpets!

In Türkiye theres a tradition to tie a red ribbon around the bride's waist to indicate that shes still a pure virgin for her husband. Oh also they had to show the bloody sheets the next day to prove it.

As a Scottish listener the blackening is still a thing! It happens before the wedding like maybe a month before (hen & stag party time frame) and usually just happens up in the Highlands and Islands (not in the central belt). My friend is heading up to Orkney to be a part of her friends blackening and the bride to be doesn’t know it happens! Usually tar, honey, molasses and feathers!! The a big drinking session 🍷

My fiancé & I are doing courthouse wedding for legal purposes & less cost. Also my family isn’t supportive so it takes away the sadness of my family not being there. & then having our own vows and ceremony on an all inclusive vacation, just the two of us.

I got married this year and the wedding industry sucks. We took extra care to not do those outdated traditions. I am not property, I’m making this decision as an equal partner, etc etc. My husband also wore his ring while we were engaged!

The most expensive wedding by Arab Muslims (from Dubai) is so insane I am saying this as a Muslim because in Islam it is literally forbidden to spend this amount of money on anything. Weddings are all about the bond of two people who respect and love each other and decided to form a family. To celebrate such an occasion, should be simple and minimal. Money shouldn't be used for show or waste. This is a huge sin. I'm so disappointed and ashamed. Edit Quran proof: "He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought" ( 30 : 21 )
