Sri Ganapathi Mess is a home restaurant located about a half-hour outside of KL Sentral (the main train station/downtown walking area of Kuala Lumpur). They specialize here in home-style traditional Southern Indian food, and you'll eat in the same style you see in this video - tons of curries, filling a banana leaf "plate."
This is an amazing place, and one that I dream about from time to time no matter where I am in the world! Today, we have goat, we have shark, and we have an extreme amount of delicious veg and non-veg curries - its an amazing meal, and thank you for hanging out with Li and myself today.
She really did say that her 2022 Food Goal was to "Eat Goat on a Banana Leaf." How lucky am I...
Although our video title is entirely true, all jokes aside it is a treat to even be here in Kuala Lumpur with Li, my favorite city on earth to "Travel for Food." I have and will continue to love KL always, for its incredible mix of culture, languages, and how that diversity makes its way into their great recipes. Wow. What a trip, what a day today, and thank you so much for taking time to share it with us :)
See you for one more video from KL, and then its over to VIETNAM! Yahoo!!
Much love today, from Li and Joel.
LOCATION:
You can find Sri Ganapathi Mess here,
on Google Maps - goo.gl/maps/QT...
PRICE:
Our entire meal was 59RM total, including all the extra meat selections, and the veg and non veg curry selections that start your banana leaf meal each time at Sri Ganapathi Mess.

Pro tip, next time at banana leaf rice restaurant ask for the salt dry chilli, its toasted in salt until crispy, so I will break it into pieces and mix with rice just like papadom. And for a healthy drink try normal/salty/sweet/mango/banana lassi, or mooru if you feel adventurous. Or hot masala tea

Where u r eating is not KL anymore, but a city by itself called Petaling Jaya. Petaling Jaya is actually in Selangor state, not in KL Federal Territory. KL is located in Klang Valley. Going down the Klang River until Malacca Straits are KL, Petaling Jaya (PJ), Subang, Shah Alam, Klang, Port Klang.

When eating with your hand, make sure when entering your mouth your fingers are horizontal just like using a spoon and pointing 'straight' or almost straight to your mouth. Probably easier using 3 fingers without your index finger and push the food with your thumb.

Varuval = dry fried Lamb (meat from kid) and mutton (meat from adult lamb) are from sheep. Goat meat is from local goats. Most restaurants in Singapore and Malaysia cook lamb/mutton unless they specifically advertise as goat meat. There is a difference in price between goat and lamb/mutton (usually imported from Australia), Also Joel, best not to mix Indian curries like nasi kandar curries, coz' each curry has a distinct flavor and made with care. And just like Li said, no soul eating Indian food with spoon ;)

😂 You can use utensils, it's not a problem. But do eat your rice with a spoon and not a fork, as most foreigners do. You can pick up more with a spoon, Especially rice with curry. Doesn't make sense to me eating rice with a fork. We use the fork to pick up meats, like that piece of goat that Joel is eating.

Out of my comfort zone. Obviously I eat hundreds of things all the time with my fingers; it is the wet, gushy, drippy things that can get under my finger nails and potentially on my clothes or in my hair that I'd rather use a spoon. If I was hungry and had no utensils I'd do what I had to, maybe even lick that banana leaf. Take care. Merry Christmas!
