Another interesting note: You can see that Pai Mei is clearly very hard on Uma, but you can tell he cares about her. In one scene he throws her rice away for eating with her hands. Instead of making her go hungry, he offers up his own food in exchange.

There's a theory/symbolism whatever you call it. During training Pai Mei grabs Beatrix's hand and quote: "It's my arm now. I can do what i please". And that was exact hand by which Elle's another eye was ripped of. So even being dead Pai Mei gets his revenge.

When you consider that the Bride's codename was "Black Manba" and Elle Driver killed Budd with a real life Black Mamba technically "The Black Mamba" still killed every member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad across both films.

@@luhh.guimaraes But she left her writhing around and screaming in agony... in a trailer that still had a black mamba slithering around in it.... It's ambiguous, but I think the implication is that the mamba still bit Elle and she died there next to Budd.

I've always loved how cunning Budd turned out to be, while also being the most thoughtful and introspective. "That woman deserves her revenge. And we... we deserve to die. But then again, so does she." He understands the real moral landscape of all this better than almost any other character. There's no way to know for sure if he was aware of or considered the possibility he was giving her a chance to escape the grave - likely he just wanted her to suffer and die with false hope. But it's an interesting thought. I also really love the (verbal) confrontation between Beatrix and Bill at the end. This movie sums up metaphorically so much of what you feel coming out of a relationship that ends badly. In the end, it doesn't even feel like Beatrix "wanted" to kill him, or at least, not that she could enjoy it anymore - she looks so grief-stricken sharing her parting words with him

A couple of the most impressive things for me were: Michael Parks portraying the grizzled Texas sheriff McGraw in vol 1, and the old pimp, Esteban Vihaio, in vol 2. Gordon Liu portraying both Johnny Mo, the head of O-Ren's Crazy 88s in vol 1, and Pai Mei in vol 2.

The reason that the fight was so short actually is done on purpose. Many martial arts movies that Tarantino enjoys or takes inspiration from 2 masters had a short fight because one would exploit a weakness or jump on an opening super quick. The talking part was for them to get closure after 4 years of them being apart because Bill knew that one of them would die that night.

Mythbusters tested out if the coffin punch was feasible and able to do. They created a robot to simulate the Bride. After 600 punches it was only able to make a crack in the wood, even after adding 6ft of dirt. In Pulp Fiction, at the end, when Jules says he’s going to walk the earth like Caine in (1970’s - cult classic - tv show) Kung Fu, Bill (David Carradine) is who played Caine in Kung Fu. I use to date a lady who absolutely loved Kung Fu. In fact, she use to place quotes said in the show on the ceiling in her bedroom.

Pei Mai is played by Gordon Liu who also played Johnny Mo, the bald guy with the mask in Kill Bill 1. Esteban was the sheriff at the chapel.

A couple fun facts: Gordon Liu plays Pai Mei - he also played the leader of the Crazy 88 in Vol 1. Michael Parks plays Esteban (the pimp) - he also played Sheriff Earl McGraw in Vol 1 (as well as From Dusk Til Dawn, Planet Terror and Death Proof).

More fun facts: In the shooting script, the encounter with Bill was set on a beach at sunset. It initally played out in a more cliched homage to older samurai films - but still retained the abrupt usage of the (at the time) 10-point exploding heart technique. Personally, I think the change was good - as the descriptions of the camera work and editing in the script came off as a bit redundant with some of the camera work during the Elle encounter in Budd's trailer. The shooting script also included Gogo's twin sister - who would have chased The Bride through LA after she kills Vernita Green. The Bride ends up getting shot with a shotgun (IIRC) and ends up having to take a doctor hostage to patch her up. Tarantino has recently hinted that if he were to do another Kill Bill film that Gogo's sister could make an appearance. The Pai Mei sequence was also a bit different. There was originally supposed to be a scene where he puts her in a pit with a giant rat that she must kill for sustenance. This was, essentially, replaced with a longer montage and the scene where he throws her food on the ground when she stops trying to use the chop sticks.

Originally there was supposed to be a big show down between Bill and the The Bride, but it got cut due to producers complaining about costs.

The big problem I have with Kill Bill is the Superman analogy. Clark Kent grew up on a farm in Kansas. He was a baby when he left Krypton, Clark Kent is who he is. Superman is a symbol he adopts.

The point bill was making was no matter where Beatrice lived or pretended to be she’s a killer. Just like Superman no matter where he woke up pretending to be he’s always a superhero
@exqueue3813
@exqueue3813 2 жыл бұрын
@@dalehenrickson6243 but the analogy is wrong. Clark Kent is who he is: an "aw shucks" farm boy who is genuinely a wholesome, good guy because that's how he was raised. Superman is the disguise. Now contrast that with Batman. Bruce Wayne is the disguise, Batman is how he thinks of himself. Bruce essentially died in Crime Alley when his parents died. Batman was what was left.

@@exqueue3813 I say Nay. The male I was as a child, the male I was is a teenager, the male I was as a young adult and the male I am today. Are completely different personalities. Clark Kent may have grown-up on a farm. But he moved to a big city adapted and learn the ways of human beings. He’s not even human. Krypton in their culture and their ways are completely different from us. He has vast knowledge in his head that we couldn’t even comprehend. And your observation is on a tangent. The point of bill’s Allergy is Beatrice is a killer and she will always be a killer. Superman the adult will always be Superman no matter what costume he wears

@@exqueue3813 One of my favorite examples of that is in Batman Beyond. One villain was tricking people into doing things by getting in their heads and making them think that these thoughts were their own. After attempting this on the elderly Bruce Wayne, Bruce was able to resist this by realizing someone was messing with him because "in my head the voices kept calling me Bruce, but in my head that's not what I call myself". Even in his old age he thinks of himself as Batman first and foremost, Bruce Wayne being the disguise.
