I had a few of the SMB Super Show VHS tapes as a kid. The one with the slime ghost possessing Luigi is the only ep I remember. Sadly, I had all my childhood stuff in a storage along with the rest of families stuff (mom dad bros sister stuff) 40+ years of memories and nice things. We were moving states, planning to come back and get it all later in the year. My asshole brother was sent money each month to pay the storage fee. The selfish prick pocketed the money each month and let our unit be auctioned off. Goes without saying he's dead to me as a brother for many things he's done. That is one of the big ones.

Being able to watch this in a theater with my kids was one of the best moments of my life. By the way, the "ghost" is actually called a Luma, a child of the stars introduced in Super Mario Galaxy. Super fun movie. Just in the first 20 minutes, you get bombarded with nostalgia... 1. The rap song from their commercial is from the 90's live action Super Mario Bros Super Show 2. The character in the red overalls playing the arcade game in the diner is the actual voice actor for the games - who is also playing the original Donkey Kong acrade game despite the name on the arcade cabinet saying "Jump Man", Mario's original name. 3. When the van breaks down and they have to run to their job, it's the same obstacle design as World 1-1 in the NES Super Mario Bros. 4. When the pipes break and it's showing the news, the Mayor (I'm guessing) is Pauline - the singer from Super Mario Odyssey Then, of course within the Mushroom Kingdom, there's so many references to various power-ups, music from different games, and the iconic line "The princess is in another castle" from the toads standing guard. Such a fun trip.

Love the custom border you did for this one. Mario first appeared in the 1981 Donkey Kong arcade game as "Jumpman," a poorly translated carpenter antagonist working under Foreman Spike rolling barrels down New York construction sites in an attempt to stop the player-controlled Donkey Kong from leveling them. His ethnicity has recently been called into question, but the manuals traditionally didn't specify further than "Italian." There was an attempt to portray him as a New Yorker in the 1993 live action movie that we don't talk about, but it wasn't until a few years later that Charles Martinet was cast in the voice role and gave him an over the top, stereotypical Italian accent. No questions were asked about his origins as a New Yorker and this became his most well-known identity. For this movie they wanted to incorporate elements from his first appearance, so Chris Pratt was cast as a third-generation Italian-American New Yorker to make him living in New York make more sense. This was first revealed in a legendary, meme-like casting announcement that set the internet on fire with hilarious reaction videos. There was some concern that Pratt would quickly drop the act and do his "normal voice," which apparently morphed into people deciding they would hate his performance before even hearing it, because they never stopped saying that's what happened in spite of the obvious and nuanced accent he and Charlie Day learned for their parts

When they explode/supernova/die, they become galaxies. So the Star isn’t really depressed or anything, it just happily looks forward to becoming a galaxy. But no one else becomes a galaxy, and Lumalee doesn’t get that no one else looks forward to death so it scares the other characters lol At least that’s what I’ve heard, never played games with Rosalina aside from Smash nor super Mario galaxy, so I can’t confirm from experience, only what I’ve read about it

Guys, if you DO start to do more animated stuff, I hope you'll consider the DC Animated universe movies. There are many places to start from; batman has a few movies that tie in directly to the Batman Animted Series, but personally I'd suggest starting with Superman Batman: Public Enemies and then its direct sequal Superman Batman: Apokalypse. There's also Batman: Under the Red Hood. Justice League: Doom. All Star Superman. Superman Unbound Wonder Woman Green Lantern: First Flight & Green Lantern: Emerald Knights (their timelines and stories don't exactly mesh together) The Flash: Flashpoint Paradox (which many people say is what created the entire New 52 DC universe) New 52 starts with: Justice League: War and ends with Justice League dark: Apokalypse War and there are quite a few movies in between

The big issue was Chris Pratt isn’t Italian and they all felt Mario should have an Italian accent even though that’s not how Mario was originally portrayed. The original voice actor for Mario and Luigi is their father and the guy playing the arcade game in the diner. If you look at the walls in the diner you’ll see Mike Tyson Punch-Out photos and Duck Hunt photos on the wall. If you’ve seen the movie Up then you should recognize the dog. It’s Dug. On the way to their plumbing call the Castle Burger is designed like the castle at the end of the NES Super Mario Bros and their sign is like the flag pole. 13:15 Jack Black co-wrote all the songs he sings in this movie. First time I heard the song I knew he had to have been a part of writing it cause it sounded like Jack Black’s style. You guys missed the end credit scene. It’s about one of the wedding gifts.
@vladyvhv95794 ай бұрын
I think the initial hate leveled at the movie was over Chris Pratt. But what I personally didn't care for was the whole Bowser singing thing. One of the things I did like was that they introduced Bowser as "King of the Koopas". In the older version of the NES Mario Bros cartridges, instead of Bowser, he is called King Koopa. The more common second version of the NES cartridge changed it to Bowser. I have one of each version, but the first one I had was the one with King Koopa, so I always have trouble identifying hims as Bowser.
@Stincinati Жыл бұрын
I think most people were just generally upset because Charles Martinet the voice of Mario was at the time still officially the voice of Mario and he even voices two separate characters in the movie both Jumpman and Mario and Luigi’s father, otherwise a number of people don’t care a ton for Chris Pratt especially for his political views and probably just thought he wouldn’t be a good fit for the voice, I will say I was in that park before seeing the movie but I think he does a fine job as does everyone else but man do Charlie Day and Jack Black go especially hard, makes me hopeful that we could get a Legend of Zelda movie just as good as this cuz man that’s the other thing the animation from Illumination is really spectacular

I’m a pretty big Mario fan, the games have played a huge part in my childhood and Super Mario Galaxy is still my favorite video game of all time. I got exactly what I wanted from this movie, it’s a bit shallow in the story, but I wasn’t expecting a huge compelling narrative. I’m also surprised that they didn’t have those typical kid jokes like fart jokes, or trying to inject something popular, and I appreciate that. The animation is fantastic, and I’m glad I got to enjoy this because I usually don’t really like Illumination movies. Although I didn’t like that dog joke at the beginning, it felt like something from an Illumination movie rather than a Mario movie, and I would’ve preferred not to have the 80’s songs that they used. Overall I’m pretty satisfied with how it turned out. 7/10 as a film itself, 9/10 as a Mario movie because certain aspects could’ve been done much better and other parts didn’t make much sense.

Given Luma Stars are from Super Mario Galaxy and this is the only one we see, I like to think he's one of the few survivors of the finale of Super Mario Galaxy. With that in mind, his nihilistic outlook makes perfect sense. I thought the end of that game was extremely messed up. The entire universe was destroyed except for Bowser, Mario, and Princess Luna. Then Mario recreates the universe from memory. He has to go the rest of his life knowing the everyone he has ever known is dead and the people around him now are simulacrums of his friends and family.
