He was such a great character.Actor he could break your heart or make you laugh and roll on the floor. Just wonderful and i'm so glad I got to meet him once when he was here in baltimore. What an incredibly nice man. Stayed behind after a little show Outside and downtown ballamore. He read thurber and told Stories. I've always suspected that of all the things he had done and he had done a lot of different kinds of t v shows in et cetera that this might have been his favorite and the most dearest to his heart. What a great actor

I loved this show when I was a kid. My mother and I enjoyed Thurber's stories and drawings and thought this show did them justice.

I’m happy to see that there are people who like Windom as much as I always have. I was rereading my battered copy of Thurber’s Alarms and Diversions and out of curiosity I thought I’d see if anyone had posted videos of Windom as Thurber outside of the great TV series and I stumbled on your channel. Good work.

Thank you for the comment. Bill had one of his Thurber live shows taped, in 1975. I believe it aired on some Public TV stations. I've never been able to find a copy. Also he did a Thurber reading on an episode of Flip Wilson yet the syndicated episodes were cut down to 30 minutes and exclude the reading. Only The Paley Center and UCLA have the full episode archived. I've yet to see/hear Bill as Thurber.

@@williamwindomtributesite1640 I know your primary interest is in William Windom, but you might get a charge out of visiting Thurber House in Columbus, OH. It's now a writing center and a memorial to Thurber. It's the house the ghost got into. It's a real treat to see original drawings, including *New Yorker* covers; the back stairs and dining room through which the ghost ran; and a real museum piece -- Thurber's typewriter -- ribbon, carriage return lever, the works. No cord -- printer and keyboard all in one!

I've remembered this show ever since first saw it as a teenager in 1969. I've always thought this series really captured the ambiance of Thurber's stories and cartoons. Thanks for posting this.

Wound up here because something reminded me of Thurber's "You wait here. I'll bring the etchings down" cartoon, which I thought was perfect when I first saw it. Wish I could find again another cartoon, creator unknown, in which a patron leaving a movie theater says, to someone in line for the next showing, something very like, "I really couldn't say if it was a good film or not but I think it was worth the price of admission to see the illusion of motion created by what is actually a series of rapidly projected still pictures."

Keith Olbermann does "Friday with Thurber" every week on his daily countdown show, which reminded me of watching this show when i was a kid. So glad to have found it!

The reboot on Disney + is also excellent. It's now a teenager in an inner-city school who does manga comics after school. It's different but very good.

Lydia said she was in 6th grade in this ep. When the show was new, I was ages 7 and 8. She was older than me! It just seems weird now. I loved this show, and liked William Windom in any show. Not every daughter is close to her dad, even if they always got along. I hate it when Windom's wife says "yes indeedy", and she says it so much.

Yeah that was Thurber. He had a dislike for women, mainly his ex wife. Bill Windom's daughter can't stand his role in this.
