Every time I see Godkiller, I want to buy it, but then I remember what people have told me about it, and I change my mind. I don't usually by a book just for the cover, but for some reason I love the look of it.

Girl same! I don't know if I'm slumped because I finished/caught up with two major series I am very fond of or what but I've finished exactly one book this whole year😭 I don't know what it is because usually I chew through books like a mouse on holiday! I've tried like six things so far and nothing has stuck. Hopefully it'll improve as the weather warms up!

I have too. I finished 1 book and it was a 1 star

Maybe The Memoirs of Lady Trent would work for you. It's kind of cosy fantasy (regency inspired) with very light romantic subplots. For me, it's the perfect mix, and I don't find it cringy

Emily Wilde isn’t a Romantasy lol it’s a cozy fantasy with a romance subplot. I adored it but if you went into it with Romantasy expectations you’d be disappointed.
@Livkha7 ай бұрын
For romantasy, you should give the ones by T. Kingfisher a try. Paladin's Grace was the first 5 star I gave one of her books and it balances fantasy and the romance very well

Honesty appreciated for sure! These things can and do occasionally happen, and you did have a couple you liked so I guess it could have been worse. Still enjoyed the video and your pop culture edits are always such a fun addition. Thanks Meg! I'm reading 2 very good non-fictions -- "The Quickening", Pulitzer Prize finalist, written by a woman science journalist who joins 27 scientists on the most comprehensive ship voyage ever to Antarctica to study what's happening with the most significant glacier in terms of telling us about the state of climate change. And she's pregnant so there is this reflection about bringing a life into the world when it's likely heading in a bad direction. I have a long way to go but I'm enjoying it so far. And also a book called "Joe Dogs: The Life and Crimes of a Mobster" that is an autobiography of a mobster describing mob life in Florida, and its connection to the New York mobs, in the 70's. Colorful stories, entertaining, (he also has some self-disgust), if often distasteful or worse.

Absolutely loved The Bee Sting by Paul Murray (not your speed probably, but highly reco for any other LitFic girlies). Same with Trust by Hernan Diaz. Re: mysteries, I read my first Japanese mystery (Malice by Keigo Higashino) and am v excited to dig deeper into his writing. Chin up for next month!

This might seem like an odd book recommendation, but I feel like you need to read "What the Road Said" by Cleo Wade. It's a picture book, but it's got wisdom for both children and adults. It's made me cry, friends cry, people I've gifted it to cry, and just think about life and where they're going. It such an impactful book. I tried looking into how to send you a copy of it, but sending things from to people that live in the UK when you live in the US it's rather complicated as I just found out. If you don't want to purchase it, as a Children's Librarian, I would recommend getting it from your local library or buy it and then gift it to a friend that has kids if it turns out to be a book you don't want to keep forever.

Every year late December my reading really slows down then in January I don’t tend to read anything but then the rest of the year it really picks up. Since I got into audiobooks I read loads more books. I get through at lest 300 a year which seems crazy but I’m always listening to something while I’m just pottering around

I hope your February reading treats you better!!! btw it's totally normal for an author bio to include someone's specific educational background, including school and degree, and I've seen plenty where that's the only information. I don't really think it's fair to judge an author's character by the sparseness of their bio, I always assume it just means they want privacy, but if you really want more information maybe her bio on goodreads has more of the cute details you're looking for 🤷🏼♀

Sorry your January was filled with books that you didn't enjoy. I had a good month, I managed 11 books which is a record for me. I did however have some books that I did not enjoy, the one that sticks out the most in my head is 1689 by Amy Cross. It was horrid.....just horrid and gory for no other reason than because she can write gory stuff. It is a horror but there is horror and then there is overly gory horror which I will now steer clear of. I hope your February reading is more successful 🥰

I was grossed out in The Book Eaters when some characters said only mothers know what love is. Just a really lousy idea to put out there. The author also treaded on the parts of vampire lore (because this is a vampire book) that dovetail with antisemitism and just made everyone Christian cult members. It made me think that she doesn’t know about the Jewish stuff (Dracula was a Romanian hoarder of wealth who sucked the blood of Christians. Hmmmm yeah that’s antisemitism 101. And the author didn’t know this when she wrote Romanian vampires.)
