Marie, this dress is just gorgeous! I do love the lining and boning which gives more structure. This dress looks very high-end and the fit is great. The decision to forego the top buttons is a great idea too. I love this dress. When I’m able to sew again after 5 months, this dress is at the top of my list. Thank you for sharing and I saved this tutorial😊❤🪡🧵👗

Thank you for your great and detailed video, your dress looks so polished and the finish is well structured. Your lining and boning improve greatly on the pattern finished dress. There was a lot of strain and puckering on the back views photos. Maybe it didn't fit the lovely model perfectly but i think it's also the finish Simplicity used. I have ordered this pattern from the US as it's not yet available in France...(probably won't be for another 2 or 3 months!). I've been travelling in the far east this last winter and bought fabrics, including a funky Japanese white shirting cotton with a black and pink cats eyes glasses print and a cotton seersucker voile for the sleeves of the dress. I'm going to follow you and put in lining and boning .

I love how you explain everything step by step. I have this pattern. I will try to sew it following your steps. The new thing I learned for you is that I have to “serge” every piece of the cut pattern. For some reason I always do it later. And I see it is better to have them finished for a cleaner adjustment and finishing. The interior looks better. Love it. ❤ Respect the adjustment you made to the bust area I will see it again in case I will need it. In my case i will want a little room in my dress because I want to use it with a little tshirt eith the sraight type version. Later I will try the first version because it looks interesting. ❤ Thank you for your teaching! ❤😊

I love your new cute machine. The hearts and paint job is lovely. The reason I love your videos are the details you put in. Marking the lines for the pleats and drawing lines to make it easier to fold correctly. Doing boning on the dress top, I've never done that before, but you show us it's not that hard. I love the hints about the stitch witchery. Great stuff Love the dress, looks great on you.

Great tutorial! So many helpful tips about using boning and the tape. I caught that the pattern instructions were wrong on which side to stay stitch the collar and enjoyed watching you figure that out! ❤. My favorite tool is the seam ripper. I am 80 and have been sewing on and off since I was 9. Returned to the craft after being disgusted with the ready made offerings that seem to be made for anyone but me. Still learning and loving it. Thank you.

I’ve bought this pattern in the last few days and plan to make a dress for summer so great to have an example to follow, I must admit I won’t be working with a pattern because I struggle with not being happy about matching patterns with so many seams, it tends to drive me insane to the point I don’t wear the finished garment. Hello! And Merry Christmas! I just finished this dress. It took three weeks! (By contrast, McCalls 8192 took two days.) I must have watched your video 30 times, bit by bit as I sewed along at the end. I'm so grateful for all your advice and tips. I'd never sewn princess seams so did a mockup of the bodice choosing the bust that best fit. I had to adjust for my, ahem, mature belly but it all worked out well. I didn't mess with the front pieces, just the straight edges of the side front and back bodice and shortened all by two inches. I need to shorten another inch on the bodice for the next make. I think a belt will help so I'll make one in the fashion fabric. I followed all of your instructions except I didn't turn the hem sides at the front edge as it would later be enclosed in the placket. I made covered buttons and placed them as you did, omitting the top two. Your warning of the confusing collar was appreciated. I think I figured out what they meant in the instructions but it was awkwardly written. It was made up in a floral charmeuse, lined in a white non-stretch lining fabric. It came out amazing and I'm so thankful for your thorough sew along as this was my most ambitious make yet. It looks like what Aunt Bea would wear to church, exactly the vibe I was going for. Forever grateful, Gina

I think this is my favourite of your dresses, very flattering and beautifully made as always. My only question is when you sit down how does the boning sit? Does the bodice want to rise up?
@mybucoliclife Жыл бұрын
It actually stays where it should be when I sit. The boned part is relatively short, so that helps. Thanks for watching!!
@crafteed Жыл бұрын
After making this dress...do you think this dress could be made just fine without the boning? I ❤ the look of this dress but I'm not sure if I want to tackle boning. I've been binge watching your videos trying to get back into garment sewing after quilting for almost 2 decades. I'm still trying to mentally tackle a sloper...which I have never made before.
@mybucoliclife Жыл бұрын
I think it would be okay without the boning, but I would definitely line it. I think having it be just a single layer is not enough, in my opinion. I personally don't have a sloper. I gave it several tries over the years, but I found that modifying similar patterns was a lot easier for coming up with what I needed for sizing and options. Good luck to you though 😁

Lovely dress. Question: what shape button hole do you use? I never know which one goes with what button. I had to use my button hole gadget last time I made button holes because my fancy machine’s button hole died. I’m glad I had it!

Hi! I pretty much use the regular oval button hole unless it is a thick coat like garment with shank buttons, then a keyhole. But of course there are always exceptions 😃
