I have been an EV owner for the past 5 months after thorough consultation with Gagan sir. I am primarily a big city driver in B2B traffic. And with experience, here are my inputs on the 5 points: 1. Range anxiety Yes, it exists and there's no denial to it. Doesn't the same exist in ICE? If the fuel reading nears zero, it will make you rush to the nearest pump, wait in long queues and sometime fill them up in bottles due to poor planning. I can rest assured without worrying a petrol pump closure late at night or because of strike, as I can charge anytime at home. Another big anxiety for ICE owners is "fuel price anxiety" that becomes talk of the nation every so often. A jump of 25 paise makes everyone jump, doesn't happen that with EV. 2. Battery Yes, it's a major cost consuming factor. And like all things electric, this also needs proper care to be used. And so do ICE vehicles. Most EV batteries come with 8 years warranty, way above the standard 1 year on ICE engine (extendible to 3 years) or 1.5 lakh kms, which is again more than ICE. And call it to protect battery or what, EVs are very robustly build and safe in a casing that protects it even in cases of full frontal collision. How many ICE cars boast that? 3. Leg room Yes, it's average. I have a sub 4 meter car, and rarely does a car give comfortable long time seating in this range. Precisely why on a long drive, one should get off for an hour while your legs rest and car gets charged ;) 4. Go green Earth metals do contribute to pollution, and so does any extraction from earth: be it metals for engine, and it is well known that fossil fuels are the biggest contributors to pollution. I used to be very sceptical, but Gaggan sir helped me take a stand in my early days. It is disappointing to see this video as the tone it sets is very incorrect. Elsewhere in the comments I read about India's early acceptance to computers, and it presents an excellent opportunity to why we should embrace the new tech and be its leaders. Elon isn't the richest without a reason. And personally, no ICE trade off can match the peace of ownership, calm of driving and joy of silence I get with an EV.

The fun of driving an ev is worth all the cons u described. And on changing anything in the car the main battery does not get loaded . There is a seperate 12v battery just like in ice cars which takes the load.. And the insurance company does pay for the battery.. there was an incident in Chennai where battery got spoilt due to water ingress and insurance company covered the cost of repair . Range anxiety is only when u don't plan a long trip.. the question here is how often do u plan a long trip and how long do u travel... So choose a car accordingly... Thanks.

Most EV cars are atleast 4-5 lakh more than their ICE counterparts. Even if a car is planned for usage for 10 years and average cost of fuel is 5 k per month it’s 8 lakh for 10 years with inflation. The electricity cost with inflation would be 2 lakh and cell repair cost to be around 1 lakh for 10 years. So there wouldn’t be any added advantage in terms of saving money. But there is always a positive feeling of going eco friendly and zero carbon emissions atleast in the cities even though non-renewable coal is burnt elsewhere. Switching more towards renewable sources of energy like Solar or hydro would be good if done by the Govts.

simple answer :: The first smartphones were too costly and less features with charge issues, but people bought it.. Now we have smart phones @ budget price with specs... Petrol - Diesel are coming to an end, the future is Electric cars... So, just like the first smart phones, first Gen EVs are here... : Who can buy the first gen EVs now? 1) There are people who buy automatics of creta, seltos etc for city use, their daily avg drive is below 250 kms. They goes long in very rate situations, for them for that same price Nexon EV will give double performance with savings , just 50 km per day can save 12 Lakhs in fuel cost within 8 years 2) Battery replacement is in 2030 * 8 year warranty, by that time we can have replacements for battery @ good price, whereas the present petrol - diesel cars we buy now will be struggling with fuel price and global air pollusion. 3) TATA comes with Li Phosphate batteries, (others not) these batteries last extra long. It wil llast more than 10 years. 4) EV cars are the best in class automatics way ahead than DCTs, + savings in every km.. Drive it once..And decide.

Brother on what point you are justified Nexon evs are best?. Let me explain to you that I handled transport in a reputed company where they procured Nexon latest high end evs, at first glance it use to give a range of 329 to 300km for first 2 charge Cycles. Later it never went beyond 270 km per charge that to on slow 14hour charging. FYI I also own a Ather 450 x pro plus which never gives beyond 80km in real world and charging times at least 4 hours forgot about fast charging which never gives a chance to charge in a rare to limited availability options in the city where I live.

There one more issue :battery performance changes with temperature as we all know In India temperature can range from sub zero to 48°C . I think ev cars or even scooties makes sense in City areas or daily commute like daily going office or short distance commute and one must have another vehicle fuel based so if he had any plans for long distance travels .... Moreover only problem I see is price , price is too high for what kind of vehicle we are getting 🙂 and paying that much extra is simply not worth it buying Nexon at 8-9 lacs , u spend almost 6 lacs extra on ev counterparts, still it have some running cost so getting value back from ev is really difficult 😐😐😐 I also support EVs but currently not practical or wise choice as such due to technical limitations 😐 To get value back it will take like 6 years to balance extra cost if you drive 25 -30k per year .

NOT GREEN! How is buying 1.5Ton piece of metal going to save the environment??? It is only relatively better for the environment PROVIDED it completes an entire lifecycle i.e 1.5Lakh kms in 6 Years. Also, 50% emissions come from battery so if you claim a battery in warranty then that battery will come with a carbon tag of 50% of the carbon emitted in the manufacturing of the EV. IF YOU WANT TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT THEN FORCE THE GOVERNMENT TO GIVE PUBLIC TRANSPORT AND CARFREE INFRASTRUCTURE.

In India, most of the electricity is made from non-renewable energy sources like petroleum, coal etc. So either burning fuel in your car, or burning it to produce electricity, is kinda two sides of the same coin. One thing to note, if electric cars take over, it becomes easy for government to tax electricity, just like present day petroleum, alcohol or tobacco. The future unfortunately, doesn't seem to be that bright 🙂🙂🙂

Non of EV manufacturers have shared anything on nos. of Units consumed for Charging Per 1KW of Battery. I am sure it would less but it's important to know as well. Most of the Li-Ion Batteries tend to charge less after few years. It might show full charge but as you make use of the range would go down faster. As a photographer we also make use of Lithium ion Batteries & we have been experiencing for years. Same is the case with Mobile battery as well.

@@conraddsa20 That's approx. ₹300-350 for full charge. Plus got to add the extra 35-40% Amt. Paid for buying an EV. Would rather buy the best Hybrid or CNG car over EV. @conraddsa20
@conraddsa20 2 жыл бұрын
@@rajoosolanky780 Agree with the calculation of the charge costs, disagree on the 'extra amount' being paid for an EV. While yes, you do pay a premium at the moment for an EV, you are basically an early adopter of the tech atleast in India. On the other had, your service costs are significantly lower in an EV. The MG ZS' service structure is 1500 after 5k kms, and approx 6k after 20k kms. Which you cannot find in an ICE or CNG car. CNG does give an EV competition, but fuel costs will always rise, no escaping that. Secondly, with constant maintenance, you will need to scrap any ICE engine after 15 years, but in an EV, you can just replace the battery or motor after its life, and continue using the same car for years. Plus with battery tech improving, there is a likelyhood for battery costs to become cheaper overtime. CNG's too produce the same pollutants but in lower numbers as compared to ICE cars. If you are countering EV's because its produced by burning coal, its best to buy a boat.

@@conraddsa20 You are Batteries cost will come down. But at the same time Units charge of Electricity will go up. But that's going to be marginal. Do you mean to say EV technology will not improve & you might be using the EV car for 20-30 years when compared to ICE. Boss EV technology is on a rapid development. Chances are in Future all 4 wheels might have seperate motor. Presently what is offered is just 1 single motor. Do not be under the false impression the same tech will be in use for more than 15 years. Presently most of the Indian buyers can afford CNG & Hybrids. EV is in the evolution state. Might be after 2025 it might stabilize & might be affordable. Chances are less than 3-4% 4 wheelers would be EV & 12-15% would be 2 wheeler EVs. There might be more smaller Nano sized EVs coming in for daily commuting to reduce daily travel costs. Who knows Petrol Price also could come down to around ₹70-75. The whole equation might change completely. Agar & Magar cannot be ruled out.

@@rajoosolanky780 You should really read what I had said in my earlier comment. I said if you purchase an EV now, you are like an early adopter of the tech, and yes, battery tech will improve, thus leading to lower battery replacement costs. Coming to your 'chances are in future all 4 wheels might have seperate motor'. Its already here. The Ford F150 lightning already has it. Most indian hybrid cars at this point of time cost in excess of 14 lakhs, still not enough for a middle class buyer looking for a car in the sub 10 lakh segment. Chances are petrol might cross 200 rs too in the near future, but it definitely isnt coming down to 70 bucks anytime soon. A migration to renewables will lower the energy costs, reduce pollution and keep EV's running, while ICE car owners can go ahead and fork their livelihoods over to go from A to B.

Hello Gagan, very interesting video and you bring up some valid points. I am a Nexon EV user from past one year and just want to point out some valid counter arguments to some of the points mentioned in your video: 1) Insurance coverage : You are right in stating that insurance don't cover 100% battery and this is due to fact that we don't have any company issuing a separate policy wording for electric vehicles and they use that same ICE policy where 50% coverage point mentioned for all or most insurance providers. I had the same concern before purchase so raised this to Tata Motors team and they contacted all insurers using their inhouse insurance team. Based on that they sent a contact with email confirmation that few insurers will provide 100% battery coverage if Zero Dep policy is taken and from these i went ahead with Future Generali who gave the full battery cover plus a very nominal rate of insurance. I believe soon as the number of electric vehicle increases we will have insurance providers providing tailor made policies with such 100% battery coverage. 2) EV's are more polluting than ICE vehicle due to mining of rare earth metals and how electricity is produced: I don't want to mention any counter arguments but want to highlight another video from KZbin. This gives all the details for interested people. Please watch it as its a real eye opener. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6C5o3x-mMmroKM

3) Chargers and Range Anxiety : This is an issue especially for highway travel but we should be happy to note that the rate in which new charging network is coming up in India and it is phenomenal in the past 2 years. Now we have Big players like JIOBP and Adani group entering this field with their network. In South India for example in Karnataka and especially in Tamil Nadu and Kerala we have very good network provided by Zeon, Tata and Relux and also by KSEB/BESCOM and other government entities. This trend is not slowing down and will only go on to reduce this range anxiety for electric car owners. But one point to note is that for most people majority of the charging will be done at home and here there is no issue unless you don't have a dedicated parking slot. If home charging is done the cost/km is a rupee or lesser depending on the electricity slabs in your state. 4) Battery Replacement : Most EV companies are working on second life of vehicle batteries so even before they are scrapped there is a possibility to use such batteries for many years in Home UPS and other power backup solutions. Even though these batteries might not be usable in your vehicle it will still have usable life for many years in such alternate applications. Once these options open up then the value of the battery remains high and the replacement cost will be much lower than the original costs. Also we are able to recycle theses batteries post the second life usage and bring back most of the valuable rare earth metals which can be again used for new battery production so thereby having circularity in our usage and reduce more the impact of mining of these rare earth minerals.

from 3+ years perspective the whole EV issues raised are completely wrong and biased 1.) One major and very important point which has to be kept in view is that physical oil availability is reducing very fast also with the focus of EU and US on movement of EV the exploration of more oil wells will soon be almost stopped. In this case the oil will be a rarer commodity . Also geo-politics and wars in coming in next few years or decades will be more scary of an issue and Oil prices can really touch very high prices. Secondly future investments on ICE engines on Global scale will reduce a lot. Major shocks in Oil markets can be observed creating wild swings from very high prices to low prices. Take a look at us begging oil from Iran and Russia. Not only cost but physical availability can be disrupted. 2.) Lithium is a rare metal and the battery pack will fetch quite a bit of the cost once given for exchange unlike lead acid batteries. Though recycling is not completely developed due to low volume as people pick up more cars it will end up in a closed loop cycle. It will similar to gold ornaments where you will buy with incremental cost and not the complete cost. 3) If you use solar charging you can completely recover your whole cost of the battery in less than a few years. 4.) As number of EV's increase the charging stations infrastructure will scale up pretty fast as did the petrol pumps. 5.) The fire issues have been dealt with phosphate chemistry where EV's are 30 times less chances of fire than a IC engine even during accidents. 6.) Also like all products EV will mature like smartphones and become more stable and usable. 7.) The important issue is the EV users is experience of manufacturing and regulation in the industry is not mature. New players are entering the market and don't have adequate experience or understanding. People should focus on companies which have done proper research and testing which will improve anyways in couple of years. Also government should understand and implement a more comprehensive policy on safety of EV's

EVs are for people who have enough money to throw away and that is just what they will do when they buy one. The green bit is plain silly because the electricity to charge batteries is usually from stinky coal fired power stations. The batteries are even sillier as they are the main cost component of the car and they have to be replaced before the car has to be replaced (Cost Accountants call this a hidden cost). The cheapest EV (or some would say, battery on wheels) at the moment is more than twice as expensive as the average price of a car in the Indian market - which is one of the largest in the world and is made of people who are not fools and who ask "Bhai, kitna deta hai?" They are not people who will throw away money, effectively shutting the market for EVs to include only fools, who are soon parted from their money. The real remedies are: No honking = silence Slash taxes on manufacturing = boosted automobile industry Slash taxes on petrol and diesel= Cools the inflationary effect on all goods Better roads = effective use of road tax collected and smoother driving.

If yes, can we expect it to run around 90,000 kms before we need to change the cells?

Before buying an EV car one should also factor in if he would burn that much fuel in a petrol/diesel car as against the incremental value of an EV car . Even considering that the price petrol at present costs Rs.120 per ltr, you should consider how much petrol you would use for the entire lifespan of a normal car when compared to the incremental cost of an EV car (Rs1 lakh=833 ltrs and 1 ltr=12-15 kms average)-consider how much you have to drive to break even the cost of an EV vehicle. In my view, we should hold on to buying EV cars as of now as it is an evolving technology and in future they may offer economical options, As of now, all EV cars are very expensive.

With due respect I would like to add as follows I agree that before buying any vehicle we must analyze how much we drive and for what purpose. Car is non productive asset unless you make a direct income from using it. If you drive 5 kms a day then you should not buy a car. Operating cost comes much later . The cost price price comparison between ICE and EV car is wrong. Comparing Apple to Apple is better.
