How to Factory Reset a Google WiFi

Description: In this video we look at the two different methods for Factory Resetting Google WiFi. The method we recommend is to factory reset via the Google WiFi App. This method of factory reset will delete all settings, data, preferences, and services data. It will also remove all wireless node from your Google account.
The second method we will show you for factory resetting Google WiFi will delete all current settings, data and preferences from a single node. However, it will not delete services data or de-register the node from your Google account.
Only after six months will Google remove both services data and any unused wifi nodes from your Google account.

Just to add to this video. I did the same and mine had no lights after 10 seconds. But then I tried again. Turned off at wall. Held reset. Turned on. Flashed blue. Then released. Light went solid the off completely. Did nothing. It came back to solid blue again. Then after a while it pulsed blue and successfully reset. Moral of the story is do as the video say and leave it alone and dont worry if it has no light.

To factory reset, unplug the device, hold the button down and then plug it back in. Hold the button until it flashes blue, then release and wait about 5-10 minutes. If you hold the button down until it flashes orange, unplug and try again.

@@PokemonPedigree: You probably have an older model whose button is at the *bottom* of the device hidden behind the sticker that has the QR codes, setup code, password, MAC, etc. Push the round circle on the sticker -- that's where the reset button is hidden. I know, absolutely moronic placement!

I was takling to google wifi support for almost 2 hours. They could not fix it. Even with the reset. They told me not to press the button for 10sec. Then i did as u said in the video presses it for 10sec. 5min after it was working. Thanks you for this awesome video

If you're having trouble after the hard reset turn your mobile data off on your phone. Spent hours trying to get it to pick up the internet from the Ethernet cable and this finally allowed Google WiFi to finish the process.

PSA: a lot of videos don’t mention waiting ten additional minutes after it goes solid. So I upgraded to the Google Nest Wifi Router ac2200 and wanted to use my old Google Wifi points too. If you want to do this set up, you need to start a new “Home” and plug your Ethernet cable from the modem to the Nest Router. Set up wifi and everything like new. Then you can delete your old “Home” network. You’ll have to factory reset all of the old Google wifi devices to add them to the new Nest network. It was driving me crazy because I did the factory reset but it would never let me add the old wifi points. The key is “waiting 10 minutes after it goes solid and then it will start flashing again.” I kept trying to add before 10 minutes were up because it’s not obvious that you have to wait so long. A lot of videos don’t mention waiting ten more minutes. Once they start flashing again after it’s solid for about 5-10 minutes you can add them to the network.

It blinked dark blue for a bit then went black with no light for several minutes but did actually come back to blinking and eventually I was able to connect to it. The lights might go black but be patient and give it some time.

Thank you for this. I followed Google's official instructions on how to factory reset a node with the button, and they don't say you have to be holding the button while it's unplugged, then plug it in while holding the button.

An orange light indicates that Google WiFi has no internet connection. Did you try factory resetting Google WiFi via the reset switch built onto the node? The second part of the video which is @ 3mins 13sec demonstrates how to reset Google WiFi in that way.

Ok I have two of these points. One upstairs. And one in basement. Main hub upstairs is working perfectly. Solid white. Secondary hub in basement is blinking red. Just stopped working while gaming. What do I need to do? Do I have to factory reset the entire setup for upstairs and downstairs? Please help

According to Google a flashing red light "indicates an issue" and the advice is to factory reset it - support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6191584?hl=en-GB#zippy=%2Cgoogle-nest-wifi-point However, before trying that it might be worth restarting it. Basically remove the power, wait 20 seconds plug it back in and see what happens. Hope this helps

Blinking blue is OK as it signifies WiFi point ready for setup, but solid blue means that the point is factory resetting. So if it blinks blue then goes solid blue before blinking again and keeps do that. It could be a sign that you have a faulty WiFi point. Try removing the power, waiting a minute and then plugging the power back in. Hopefully after that it will just blink blue.

If I remember correctly an amber flashing light means no internet connection. Try checking the network connection between your modem and your primary Google Wifi point. Unplug and plug in the network cable to make sure its secure. If it’s not the primary device, it may be that it’s too far away from a stable connection, so move it closer to another, working point.

This worked but now the 2 extra pods I factory re-setted were solid blue but then both are no pulsating blue and the other 2 aren't being seen on the Google Home app (which is a perfectly AWFUL app)!!!! EXTREMELY frustrating

I had the same problem, reset it 10x and eventually I gave up. I forgot to unplug it and after a month it somehow fixed itself and works again.

Yeah so i've confirmed this method works, however I bought a fourth wifi point seperatly and it doesnt have the factory reset button on the back. Does anyone know how to reset it to factory default other than the app? I've already deleted it from Google Home. The app is less than helpful.

According to Google a red light indicates that there is a problem with that wifi node and they recommend you factory reset that node. - support.google.com/wifi/answer/6191584?hl=en-GB Then once the node has been factory reset simply add it back into your Google wifi mesh network

My google wifi doesn’t have the physical reset button. We just moved to a new house and I’m trying to set up our wifi. None of the wifi points will work, apart from the one connected by Ethernet cable to the modem. All the othera flash Amber and cannot be found by the app when I try to set them up. Any advice?

When we originally posted this video, the factory reset process was a lot quicker. Over the last couple of years Google have added functionality to Google Wifi, which I think may have made factory reseting take longer. So while we state in the video that factory resetting will take around 5 minutes. Google now states that the whole process can take up to 10 minutes. Its also worth noting that If you hold down reset for too long ie over 15 seconds. Google Wifi will not factory reset, and you will have to start the process again. Hi Jake, is the network lead connecting Google WiFi to your modem still in? I found that while factory resetting its better to not have the network cable connected as that will make Google WiFi flash orange which I found easier to see and work out what it was doing.

The fact that you can't change the WIFI password without resetting the Googel Home device like this is just extremely stupid. I mean, my wifi SSID changted on my router, for some reason. Now Google Home didn't work. So when I tried to get into it again, I had to remove the Google home unit in the android app. Then when setting up a new home unit it refurses you to enter a new wifi password (wifi key) and says that it has been connected before and that you must reset the unit, even though the connection I had before was removed. The worst and least thoughtful thing Google have ever produced. Why the h-ll did they make it that you can't change the wifi key (or when it gets changed for other reasons)?
