I think his long nails were making him slip. It was better after the nails were trimmed. I wondered if he had to pee. LOL I also would think that rubber on the table would NOT be good just because the hair/fur might stick. That metal table looks easy to sweep clean.

Yawning outside of boredom or fatigue means stress, not dislike. He's nervous and confused. He doesn't understand the clippers or the grooming table, but he's trying to cooperate as he understands it. He could be taught fairly quickly and easily what you need him to do to make your job easier and he'd probably be pretty compliant but he doesn't yet understand. You're telling him you aren't happy with some things he does ("No!" "Stop!") without being explicit about explaining or showing him what you want instead. This breed is particularly biddable and teachable. He'd also be more compliant if he was chill instead of worried. That communication issue and unfamiliarity with you and with the process are where the stress is coming from. Address the stress and the grooming will be easier and safer for you both. I about fainted when you took clippers to him because GSDs are supposed to be wash and wear, clipping only the bottoms of the feet and a sanitary if needed, but that's between you and his peeps. I mention this in case anyone else finds this video in a search for information on GSD grooming and thinks this is standard procedure or recommended grooming for the breed. It's not.

I do not understand anything past brush, wash, brush, and nail clipping on this dog. Just my opinion. Nothing against the groomer....I just don't get the owner. I had a German Shepherd/Collie Mix who had the same hair growth. Brushing (esp. after winter) was our bond! That thick hair in the back actually brushes out! She hated me brushing her butt, BUT she was always really good! Her "blaze" in the front, and the extra hair on the legs, rear, and face....they were part of her beauty. I can't imagine cutting them off. This was such a sweet dog! ;) Great job MFG!

It seems the live in a hotter climate. I know Dede is stationed in Texas. So the thick fur isn’t ideal for that. She did make it look nice and blended in the end. But it’s more for practicality. I know my aussies will need a big chop since the weather is heating up where I live Im more concerned about them not over heating when we’re outside than the aesthetic of it all

Dede, I have always taught my dogs to shake on command during bath time. They way you placed your hand on his head to stop the shake was great. Then I would have said shake as I took my hand away and given a hand command to go with it. Many dogs get it right away. May give you a few extra seconds. Of course you don’t have a shower curtain to protect yourself. Lol

If that dog jumped to the side off the table it would be hanged potentially breaking its neck. That setup is unsafe, there should be an additional loop going under its back end to prevent moving off the table plus it would prevent it from sitting down. Plus the hard metal support put under the dog must be uncomfortable. That setup is designed for your own comfort and convenience, not for the dogs comfort and safety. You wouldn't be getting my business!!

A better thing to do is get a rubber mat and put it under him, and stop being loud that kind of scares the dog (i might be wrong about her being too loud, for me she was loud. My opinion) , try to get the dog get used to being around the shavers without it being on and just rub it around their fur and body parts so they feel more secure about it and then turn it on so they get used to the sound, then maybe the dog will stop moving so much. I hope this helped! I love you and your channel

I love him dancing and I appreciate seeing tools used to de-shed. I don't have a long haired German Shepherd, but I do want to get her shedding under control as much as I can😅

I often wonder how much of a difference it'd make to have the dogs walked for like 20-40min before the session. Not realistic, and I know that most owners don't even know they should be walking their dogs - even the small ones - every day - but I'd be really curious to see how much of a difference just that would make lol

First off the owners should never have let him get in that state. A very professional grooming and a beautiful dog. His face and colouring are very close to our GSD puppy. GREAT VIDEO WELL DONE...

Of course he moves around alot.. he's not trained to be groomed! You have to train dogs. They dont get a certain age then know what to do!!! I dont know which is worst, the groomer or the owners. Guess i'll go with the groomer is worst.. she is anxious which is making the dog worst! I'm surprised she is a groomer... with her FEAR of dogs. Sad

My sister is getting a Husky and German Shepard mix, my sister is busy with work, church, and her bf sometimes. So I'll be helping out a lot with her dog by walking it and grooming and feeding it and making sure it stays happy and healthy.

Why don't people brush their dogs? Especially double coated. It's cruel. Every puppy should be desensitised to grooming equipment, having their feet and toes touched and their ears touched. It would make life so much easier. I've watched dog groomers with a table that has a rig up for a sling underneath the front and back so they are more or less immobilised and rubber on the top so they don't slip. I always feel like they are going to end up off the table and be hanging by the noose.

He's not getting mad he's just not used to the machine being around his head and especially around his ears. This is one you should try and give him a treat. You may be a good dog groomer German shepherds are very smart dogs if you talk to him and tell him that you're going to cut his hair that you need is cooperation . After you tell him to be still give him a treat 👌

A dog owner I knew worked around show horses and brought the dog along. The dog learned to prance. Perhaps your dog was exposed to horses?
