Myka deliberately sought out a “special needs” child, then proceeded to select the “type” she wanted, as if she was choosing sandwich ingredients or options on a car. Paraphrasing here, but apparently she wanted a child who wasn’t too difficult, but appeared difficult to others. She could then push her narrative of the virtuous, self-sacrificing mother without putting in too much effort. When things got tough, she bailed. Huxley was used as a prop to be monetized and exploited in her pursuit of “fame”, celebrity, attention and narcissistic supply. While his abandonment was horrible and traumatic, I also can’t see how being raised by someone so self-focused would be of benefit to him. My hope is that he finds new loving parents with the emotional bandwidth and empathy to welcome him permanently into their home and their lives. As a physically disabled adult, I find incidents like this particularly disturbing, and I hope that Huxley finds the happiness that he so deserves.
@susanbaumann21994 жыл бұрын
Rach I agree. I worry about how confused Huxley will be about all that is happening to him. He’s had so much to adjust to already, and now more circumstances to figure out. Hoping he doesn’t blame himself, but kids often do. You’re absolutely right that everyone on the disability spectrum is a challenge for parents and yes, ourselves, too, I’m just blown away by Myka’s audacity.

I absolutely agree! it is sadly a minority of parents that keep their children's privacy in mind on social media. So many people, even those I thought would be smart about this, are sharing hundreds and thousands of pics and videos of their kids. I don't think they truly understand what they are doing. Legislation would perhaps help people understand that privacy belongs to everyone.

KZbin needs to demonetize any content featuring children under a certain age. Parents should be free to post videos with their kids as a hobby, but they shouldn't be dependent on them for an income. A lot of these parent vloggers seem like people who want to be famous but they don't really have the talent to achieve that on their own. So they use their children because cute kids are an easy way to gain a following. There definitely needs to be more regulation and oversight for children on this platform.
@Boredchinchilla4 жыл бұрын
Khloe Knievel I totally agree with this. Parents can have a channel for themselves, then a family channel that is demonetized. There are too many parents doing messed up shit just for money, even the ones that seem to be pretty ok parents. April and Davey come to mind. They are not horrible parents, though a bit dumb at times, but now they are trying to up the ante by starting a “family band”. The time for that was when your kids were very little, when missing school and not being humiliated would not be an issue- you don’t force your kids to dress in silver lame’ when they are teenagers (not to mention the fact that they two oldest are going into high school and won’t have time for that shit). Then you’ve got families like 8 Passengers, who abuse their kids for views. That mother has major mental issues, and shouldn’t have any of her kids. They are living in isolation, no friends, and the mother goes out of her way to make life impossible, then brags about how she’s going to kick them out on their 18th bday. I doubt you will have to force them out, I’m sure they will flee as fast as they can at 18, if not earlier.
@erinlikesacornishpasty47034 жыл бұрын
Idk, I think they should just be in compliance with the law. I mean, there are already laws about how children should be protected in the entertainment industry and it's obvious that in many cases "family vlogging" is entertainment, so the children should have thier own bank accounts/trusts where the funds from that content go. That's all 🤷♀️.

I agree. Children cannot, by definition, consent to having their childhood, even parts thereof, filmed for public dissemination from infancy until at least (perhaps) when they reach the age of 16-17, which is when adolescents are generally considered psychologically able to grant informed consent to medical procedures which are not required in an emergency setting and which will have long-lasting ramifications - at least by most jurisdictions. While I agree with a few other commenters that their rightful financial compensation should be considered a given, there are some things for which there does not exist enough money to ever repay someone who has not given their considered "okay" IMHO. Sheer human dignity is surely among them.

I was adopted at 10 days old in 1968 because my parents had tried for four years to have a baby and thought they could not. A year and a half later they had their first biological son, and their second son was born the next year. My mom did everything she could to make sure my brothers were turned against me, and it was clear I was in the way. She only wanted to read bedtime stories to them, only wanted to give affection to them and I do remember always trying to worm my way in and her getting pissy about it. From my first memories I knew I was an outsider in that family. From your videos and others like yours, I now know I was the family scapegoat. I was never told out right that they didn’t want me but when I was in fifth grade my mom didn’t know I was home and I heard her tell my dad that I ruined their family. I was not a bad kid and got straight A’s and spent most of my days playing in my room or reading. To know in fifth grade your parents think you ruin their entire lives is devastating. They never dissolved my adoption but I really think if there were no social consequences, they would’ve returned me once they had their own kids. My mother is appearance conscious and I was a very ugly baby and child, so maybe that’s why they didn’t like me. Or maybe because I was a girl. Or maybe because I wasn’t their biological kid. Or maybe because I was just born unloveable and wrong. To be rejected by two sets of parents, yet still being raised by one of the set of parents that don’t want you, I just can’t make people understand how that feels. hope that Poor child doesn’t ever realize really what has happened to him, but there’s no way that wont negatively affect him even with severe autism.

The remaining boys had endured life with abuse from this 3rd child, and it was hard. Suddenly he was gone. Now the boys are finished high school. Both struggle with depression, and have no life goals. They are well behaved....but going nowhere fast. The discarded kid stayed in foster care until age 19, now he is off somewhere on his own. Poor choice to adopt in the first place, high risk kids she figured she could fix cuz she was a teacher. Once in, unwilling to adapt to child's social needs....and then discard. Yea. Itseems like child trafficking. And people who think they are against trafficking watch it. It's all just bizarre to me. And no I wouldn't say everyone showing their child online is trafficking but look at this one. They Bought a child to make moneypff of, Made loads of money off of the child and got rid of child when child wasn't convenient anymore. Human trafficking, in the open , with a big audience. Omg. I remember that they (law makers) Shut down back page , screwed over consenting adults, made laws that don't help one bit that have been shown to be more harmful than helpful . Start a charity (which is predatory) but people think it's great, that's all about saving the children,right! and saving adults from that terrible life and boom Make loads of money that way. Where are all of the saved people. Look Into any anti sex trafficking charity and you will find they helped nobody. I think there are groups that help but the anti sex work ones , not just anti trafficking but anti sex work ones , those are the bunk ones, those are the ones that pray on peoples empathy and actually make money off of trafficking . They make up stats that cannot be backed up , they have nobody to say yeah , this group helped me out, they try to silence anyone who can tell truth and show that their stats are bunk and show real ways to slow down trafficking. I saw some stuff and read some online articles, did a deep dive awhile ago (with out backing it up nobody should really believe me, either. And i don't know right now all of the places I read about these lying charities) and found out how unhelpful and hysterical these anti sex work save the children charities are. And now I need to cleanse my brain , I wish I hadn't thought of this stuff. Its not happy LA LA LA subjects the dr talks about but my going down a rabbit hole , it's really not healthy and I need to stop. I can't stop the predatory charities, or any of the bad things I'm talking about so its not like I'm doing any good by writing about it. I don't think you have to do good with writing anything but I'm personally wtf am I doing? The darkness is too much. it's just a bad place for my head so I should stop. There are good things to look at , shit i gotta get done and it's summer out , and most importantly this is really not good for my brain right now so I'm done with learning about this dark stuff for awhile.

This hits home for me. I was adopted at 3 months because of the social system that looked down on single mothers who wanted to raise their illegitimate child in the mid fifties. I don’t blame my biological mother, she didn’t want to give me up. But the mom that I got was very narcissistic and when I was six years old, was taken back to social court to be given back. At the time I seemed uncontrollable to my adopted parents and it was obvious to my mother that I wasn’t the kind of child she had hoped for. Growing up in this environment really did a number on me that lasted well into my adulthood. I had low self esteem, abandonment issues and was very insecure. Not many people wanted to be around me because I had made a fantasy environment because I was afraid of the real life that I had been given. When my son was 10 years old, he began to exhibit similarities in his behavior that I remember doing and felt very protective of him but I didn’t want him to feel like I had felt. His 5th grade teacher was so helpful to what she thought was going on with Matthew. She suggested that I take him to a children’s counselor, as she recognized his behavior to be identical to what she had experienced teaching for 15 years....I kind of blew her off because to me, Matthew was just like me and I didn’t want him to be placed under scrutiny and grow to feel like I had thought of myself....we weren’t bad kids like people like to label us.....we just had similar social quirks. On that day, Matthew and I both received our diagnosis.....we both had ADHD. I was so relieved that I could put a name to what I had been going through as a child and I gathered up the lists of book titles that his Dr. Had given me to read. It was like this huge weight came off of my shoulders and I cried for nearly an hour knowing that with me as Matthew’s mom, having gone through the negative of being a child who lived with the knowledge of being unacceptable as a child, I knew that Matthew would never feel this way. He was so smart and lovingly. He was given Aderall and everything turned around for him. He graduated Med School and now has a practice in Children’s Psychology. I am so very proud of him and how he turned a disability into a gift, which a person with ADHD can often do using creativity and intelligence as the up side of the condition he was given.

@joytoyouandme45934 жыл бұрын
mario moreno - The ridiculous thing is that all of their children sucked their thumbs at one point. Radly who isn’t much older than Huxley; was a thumb sucker until giving it up this past year. Huxley is not the same emotional and mental age as his physical age. What’s the big deal if he sucks his thumb. It is a manner of stemming or self soothing, which is a common in autism. Another you tuber who has autistic children who were biting and hitting themselves, introduced their child to a pacifier, their child was already 5 when they adopted. So why not get yourself informed about put the tools available to help your child cope with their disability. Myka and James don’t appear to have done this in order to help Huxley or have his best interest at heart. The two vacations they took since adopting Huxley to the south seas, would have easily paid for them to attend classes on parenting autistic children, and paid for home care, and for Huxley to have a top rated therapist. This later seemed important to Myka, who complained about how expensive Huxley’s therapy was at $500 a month, so down graded to a cheaper one. All while she keeps redecorating her $700,000 home, buying super expensive foods and visiting the juice bar on the regular. Besides children who are disabled qualify for assistance from social services, and their therapy is typically covered by medical insurance. Based on the fact that James is an engineer he most likely earns well over six figures a year. I live in Seattle near Boeing and know what I come experienced engineers make. They are not poor. My heart is absolutely broken for Huxley. If I wasn’t in my sixties I would honestly adopt him.

And I'm not a hero, I'm just a mother. I think people adopt kids to complete some kind of picture sometimes. And when the glass across the picture cracks a little they just farm out the problem or get rid of them somehow. Reminds me of the movie Child of Rage, based on a true story. Only in that situation the adoptive parents kept the child, although they did struggle with the decision. The adoptive parents knew nothing of the Childs highly abusive background or her propensity to violence. When it was no longer safe for them to keep her in the home they had her placed in a facility with highly trained doctors and teachers. The adoptive parents continued to maintain their parental rights and involvement with the child. Understandably, over the years, the child did become attached to the doctor and saw them as more of a parent figure than the adoptive parents .This was not an issue however , getting the child healthy was the priority.. Through intense therapy the child did grow up to be a remarkably fit and loving person. A success story. Bottom line, Once you adopt a child, they are yours. Period!

I watched her early interviews. They're actually on KZbin. The little girl calmly described the horrific physical and sexual abuse she inflicted on her baby brother. She was 4 and 5 at the time. She herself had been repeatedly and brutally rapped and sodomized by her father that continued from infancy until she was 3. The abuse she endured was heartbreaking. But those parents had to protect their other children. They had no choice. She abused the baby and she expressed her violent sexual fantasies towards the baby including strangling him to death. That situation is totally different. She needed years of intense inpatient therapy to rebuild trust and the ability to empathizes with others. I wonder how many violent sexual predators are sitting in jail who experienced the same horrific abuse as babies and toddlers but never got help. It's absolutely heartbreaking to think about.

They didn’t have him for a month or two, try their best and realize that he needed more help than they could afford to give, allowing him to be adopted by a wealthier family who could afford full time care and schooling. Her $600 bracelet, vacation at the Four Seasons Bali and $1500 purse could pay for full time care for him for a very long time. They were told he was “brain damaged” and she said God had chosen her to be his mother no matter what, that he was hers like her other kids (though she didn’t ducttape her bio kids thumbs when they sucked them, she praised their thumb sucking and posted photos about how cute it was). I sure hope that the “new mommy” comes after her for the money that Huxley should have earned while bumping “old mommy’s” profit margin. Though maybe she should keep that for therapy for her remaining kids, considering one day they had a brother and the next day they didn’t (the one son is very close in age to Huxley, and they were often dressed identical in photos).
