Great to see the Roller rolling. When you MOT it you'll have a target to aim for with any fails and advisories. Will be a fantastic milestone for this playlist. I've just finished refurbishing the telephone box I brought to Poland when we emigrated here 13 years ago. Now has a working toilet in it with wash basin incorporated into the cistern. Wish I'd filmed it like you have with the Rolls (although a lot "beeps" would be heard) but I don't know how you manage to work and film at the same time. I take my hat off to you sir. I'm sure in your later years you will smile when replaying these videos.

You get days like this fixing up an old car, everything goes sweet and a smile comes over your face, it makes up for the horrible hours spent welding and ripping the suspension to bits. Your seatbelt will more than likely be an advisory as it's not that bad, depends on the mot testers mood on the test date, melt any fluffy bits with a lighter. Great vid as usual TA.

The upholstery looks fine, Vince. This is a 1988 car and is bound to have some wear and wrinkles. With the exception of the tear in the driver's seat, I'd leave the rest alone now except to give it a good clean and some hide food. The interior is always the best part of a Rolls Royce, and yours is starting to look really luxurious now. Thanks for all your hard work.

I really enjoy these episodes. It's pretty great that those front seat pads where interchangeable. Regarding the minor flaws with the interior, it's actually kind of liberating. You can drive it and enjoy it without a constant fear of compromising a show car interior. Keep up the great work, such a pleasure to see it come together. Hi Vince I recently sorted the slow retracting seat belts on my car. Mine were worse than yours. Its a simple fix, you pull them all the way out, put them in a bucket with hot water and washing detergent, let em soak for a few hours, scrub them about a bit (you will not believe the amount of human gunge that comes off them, its gross). Then rinse in a bucket of fresh water. Then leave them fully pulled out to dry overnight (important otherwise they'll go moldy). Then once they are dry, use silicone spray (make sure its not oil + silicone, just pure silicone spray). Its dry and makes things feel silky smooth. Mine fly back in now, it works incredibly well. Also for your leather, I've had decent results with ebay leather patch repair kits, I had to repair the grey leather seats on a beemer many years ago that were in a similar state as yours. They come with a patch of leather, some dyes that you have to mix yourself, flexible leather filler, and some texture pads to make leather patterns in your repair (totally smooth doesn't look natural). Clean all of the seats very well (steam is good I think) get a much dirt out of cracks as possible. Cut a patch, and tuck in inside the hole (put glue (flexible shoe glue) on the edges to it can stick to the original leather. Let it dry Then use some of the flexible filler to get it to the same level as the existing leather. Do it in a few layers, not all in 1 go. Use the texture pads on the final layer to get the leather pattern on the surface. You can use a hairdryer to dry it quicker. You can also sand it if you mess up. Mix up your dyes yourself to match the colour of your exiting leather (Hint: you can test your colour match by using it on a small spot where it wont be seen, like between seat cushions. Let it dry fully before making adjustments to your dye) If you really balls up the dying, you can just dye the entire seat / whole interior with the dye to make them all match. You can do the filler + dye in all the little cracks too to hide them. Avoid getting dye in the stitching if its different colour to the leather.

Easiest way to get the seat belt to retract faster is to pull the seat belt out fully and clamp it to stop it retracting back in. Then get some upholstery cleaner and give the belt a really good clean with a brush and cloths. Once dry you can then give it a light spray of some silicon spray and give it a good wipe down to remove most of the silicon residue. The belt should retract much fast now. Yes a hole in the seat belt or any fraying is an MOT failure. Leave the handbrake off and choc the wheels to prevent the handbrake sticking on if you are going to leave it immobile for a long period, and leave as little fuel in the tank as possible as it will go off and start to corrode the inside of the fuel tank and cause you a massive headache. Needs to keep topping the tank up with fresh fuel every few weeks and run the engine until its nearly empty.

Vince give the seat base a generous helping of hide food then cover it in a black binliner, then put it out in the sun. The leather will absorb the hide food easier and hopefully it will soften the leather.

That has to feel so good getting that back area vacuumed. Ever since i got my own apartment, i realized the joys of cleaning up certain things. i.e: after I've been woodworking, it feels satisfying to vacuum up the wood shavings\dust. Vacuuming regular dust is much less satisfying. I don't know why. Possibly because vacuuming the wood dust is (tangentially at least) related to the creative process of woodworking. Or maybe I'm just a weirdo from another planet. 😮

I picks up my own car 8 months on, on tuesday... yay as I missed my 3 wheel van... Scored an unbelievable watch hit last week, a pair of NH35 CCCP Time big beasties with canteen crowns, red glass display casebacks and this shows you how the gods of ebay are to be trusted in, the very two models and colours I wanted too one being a Typhoon with a laser cut Typhoon on the lower half of the dial, the other a Delta with rose gold markings and a jaunty anchor in the lower half, both PVD black on black straps... oh the Typhoon has an enamelled blood red Soviet star at the 12 mark. Got them £25 each and both keeping abs astonishing good time as only a Seiko can, very very pleased as I had intended not to buy any more watches wanting to focus on the 150 odd projects waiting to be fixed.

Hey Vince. The easiest and most effective way to clean the seatbelts is to soak them. Pull them all the way out, and put a clamp at the end so it can't retract. Then fill a bin with warm water and woolite (I use the dark fabrics one) and soak them. You'll see after 5-10 minutes just how much dirt comes out. Repeat as necessary, then rinse with water and allow them to dry in the sun :)

This, with the one side. I'd still replace the passenger seatbelt, the fraying and the one puncture is a clear safety issue and is definitely something to get a replacement of, either from Rolls-Royce themselves or a clean used one from a parts dealer... I'm assuming the retraction mechanism definitely needs gone through as well on that side as it's very slow. I need to do the same on my van, both sides are slow to retract especially in the winter months, but the locking mechanism still works.

Vince DON'T YANK THE BELTS! As a MOT tester we do not test belts like that as it damages them !! we stand outside the car and pull it to its full length clip it in and then pull on all its fixing NEVER against a lock up as you did. we then check the webbing full length as far as we can see, we only pull tension against the mounting points and the clasp lock and that lock must unlock under tension (your upside down in a car that seat belt will unclip when you press it you don't need an eBay cut me out tool in the glove box). By tugging the lockup on the belts you are putting dents in the cam therefore snag points for the persons using it so then they snatch in more. You should strip a belt mech down, there's a ball bearings rolling around the offset cam (in an Airbag system a second primed cannon ball bearing that fires about a second before the first one reacts) but I would be more worried about the belts recoil clock spring at the other side, the recoil spring to pull it back against you in the seat is the most amazing spring you have ever come across, if you take the cover off you have just unleash zebidy !
