I am working on marine meiofauna and encounter tardigrades sometimes in my samples. Great quality video and I have to mention that I generally use a petri dish under a dissecting microscope. Great idea to put it under an upright light microscope, may be practical:)

I've been looking into my microscope for 2 years and have still only seen one tardigrade. Hopefully this video helps.

What microscopy techniques do you use? How did you make such a great video? What objects do you use?
@mymicroscopicworld
@mymicroscopicworld 3 күн бұрын
The illumination technique is my own, called Kristiansen illumination. I’ll make a video about that some time next year. The objectives are from Motic. The 4x and 10x are plan APO objectives and the 20x is a plan objective.

Will I also get a good video under the Nikon Optiphot 2 microscope or is your microscope better?
@mymicroscopicworld
@mymicroscopicworld 4 күн бұрын
Depending on what objectives the microscope has, the Nikon optiphot should have roughly the same image quality as my microscope. But a good image also depends on sample preparation, illumination technique, camera, and skills. 🔬 so it might not look perfect to begin with. But keep practicing and it will get better at better 😄

How many times do you normally see one in a sample?

I always find them in my samples, and always several and at least 2 different species. 😄

Which microscope do you recomend me?
@mymicroscopicworld
@mymicroscopicworld 4 күн бұрын
That depends a lot on what kind of specimens you want to observe, how much you expect to use the microscope and what your budget is. If you want to look at insects and “large” samples like that, then a stereo microscope. If you want to look at microorganisms then a biological compound microscope. If you want to use it a lot then a binocular with a mechanical stage or trinocular if you want to mount a camera. If you just want to use it from time to time then a monocular could possibly do the job 😄🔬
