I enjoy going through locks, though they can be time consuming. Important thing is not to rush, especially when working alone. Take care.

That wide-beam, in that section of canal, reminded me of being behind the oil barges that serviced the defunct fuel depots on the Saint Marks River near where I live in Florida. They filled the river channel until they arrived at the areas widened for the to unload. Thanks once more for a most enjoyable voyage, Alan. Cheers.

Thanks Zach. That must have been troublesome coming towards them and then having to cross each other. Hope all well. Best regards. Alan

Hi Heather. I’m really pleased you found my video of interest. May I wish you well with your art studio and hope it’s a great success. Do you specialise in Canal art? Alan

My Narrowboat Venture, well as I am brand new to the cut I haven’t had opportunity to paint it yet, but I will soon change that. I usually paint peoples favourite photos. I also offer fun art workshops so hopefully next time yo7 are passing you will see me and other people outside with easels painting the inspiring view.

Thanks Alan. Don't fancy manoeuvring a wide beam on that bit. Good idea by to get early starts. My boat is finished just waiting for it to be put back in the water then I can bring it back to its mooring. Take care.

Cabin Cruiser Adventure I’m pleased your boat is finished and ready for a soaking! Wide beams are difficult for all it seems to me, their owners and other boaters that come across them. Hope all goes well.

It's so much fun to watch vlogs of stretches of canal we've been on. That widebeam was REALLY wide! I know it's a lot more room but really, I do prefer a narrowboat.

Love your videos. A quick, probably silly, question from a gongoozler. When you leave a lock, why do you have to close the gates you exit from? What difference does it make if you left it open? The only reason I can think of is in case the gates at the other end are leaking. Cheers.
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
ipb1966 Thanks very much for your kind comment. Closing the gates does help preserve water. Apart from that, there’s no telling from what direction the next boat will arrive. If you arrive at a lock to go up and it’s full, you wouldn’t expect to have to close the upper gates before you can start emptying it. Hope that helps a little.

Wow Alan, how did you tie off your boat on that lock landing bollard. I was trying to figure it out :-)
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Dave Johns If you mean Lock 3 the mooring line is wrapped around a few times, then an under loop made and slipped over the top. It might be like a clove hitch.
@DaveJohns615 жыл бұрын
@@MyNarrowboatVenture Yes, that's the one. Thanks. will have to try that one.

greetings!!! what is the story with private and public and commercial and council moorings?
@MyNarrowboatVenture4 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg. That's a massive question and no doubt, books have been written on the answer. In simple terms, the Canal and River Trust have the main responsibility for canals. On the towpath side, you can moor anywhere subject to whatever restrictions may be shown. The non towpath side is private and mooring is not allowed. Private owners adjoining the canal can get planning permission for private moorings and these will often have some garden as well. There is no overall policy on giving permission. Commercial and Council moorings would be private in that respect. That's brief but hopefully helpful. All the best Alan
@RedfoxCGLM4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan....it was a good answer. The towpath is the key isn’t it. Hope all is well with you and your family...they are wanting to put us back into lockdown again over here in Aus. I long for the spinneys and meadows and the wandering paths of England. I’m concerned now that I can’t get back. I’m thinking of getting a Brit passport...that would help!!
@MyNarrowboatVenture4 жыл бұрын
@@RedfoxCGLM That's right about the towpath. My family are keeping very well thank you, hope you and yours are. Go for it, you must try for a passport if that's what you want, cheers.
