Thanks Alan for another great adventure with good advice on keeping to a slow speed when going past moored boats and blind bends and narrows. I suppose that keeping a fishing magnet onboard a boat is a great idea as lots of kit can easily be dropped in the cut particularly if you become a clumsy so and so like I have become. Take care and all the best. Stevie

Hi Alan. A bit of seizing wire around the pin on the shackle, or a small plastic tie, will stop the pin undoing and stop you losing the end of the mooring chain. Kevin

Morning Alan. Nice weather for a leisure cruise. Summer brings out more boaters to the canal. Good to see most boaters slowed their boats for one another. Although sometimes one or two might not be considerate or somehow lost control. Saw another vlogger where his moored boat was almost crashed by a narrow boat who lost control. So wishing you and boat stay safe and healthy for more cruising and fun adventures. Look forward to your next vlog. Have a nice day and great week ahead🌈🌻🌺

One moment there was a "dead slow" sign. The next, you were reving and hooting. It was almost like you were a teenage rebel for a second there, Alan! 🤣 But you were slowing the boat down in reverse, I know. Oh, what a time for the bowcam to stop working! A near head-on! It's good you had your wits about you. I think boats are supposed to hoot when they can't see, but I can understand not wanting to. Another lovely video, I enjoyed the scenery and narration. Thanks for making it! 🙂 (Is "narration" the word? I don't know, it's silly o'clock here.)
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
Narration sounds a good word to me. Thanks for watching and commenting. I often sound my horn approaching blind bends and bridges, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily captured on film. Can get confusing with bridges, as cars hoot as well going over bridges, because of their hump back nature and poor visibility. All the best Alan
@eekee60343 жыл бұрын
@@MyNarrowboatVenture I didn't think about cars hooting too. It would be confusing. And here I was thinking of a little motorboat on my local canal, fitted with a horn so it wouldn't be mistaken for a bicycle on the towpath. All the best Ethan

Morning Alan, that was just what we’ve been waiting for, your trip back along what was our “home patch”...such happy memories. Thank you for your vlogs, great content and photography. Question:: your engine is much quitter than most, is the compartment more insulated than others or something else like better maintained?
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
It’s interesting you should say that. Different cameras pick up the sound differently. I was given a tip about lining the drainage channels under the deck boards with hose pipe. I did a vlog on this but can’t remember which one off hand. I also have an old rubber backed mat on deck, which quietens the sound. Hope that answers you ok, cheers.

That was a close call with the other boat - are you able to insure your boat like you do a car? Having watched a few vlogs recently where there have been near misses and sometimes collisions I do wonder if the hire boatyards need to give customers more instructions before allowing them on the canals.
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
Boats are insured and need to be, in order to be licensed to use the canals. Hire boat companies give advice to new boaters and I believe there are new regulations about it. You can pay £200 for a day’s training, so it’s limited what you can learn in a short space of time from a hire company. A blind bend and width restriction was the issue, just bad timing that both boats were there at that moment.
@wattck3 жыл бұрын
A lovely wide canal for the most part, shame all canals weren't built to that standard, or better. Cost, obviously determines. That near miss, why is the canal still narrowed for a crossing that doesn't exist anymore, and why is that tree allowed to restrict sight lines? That won't be the first near miss there and it won't be the last.
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
There are these narrowings all over the network, some for missing bridges, some for other reasons, it just wouldn't be cost effective to remove them but in this instance the sight line could be improved but it needs 'offside veg cutting' and there hasn't been so much of that recently due to covid. Cheers

Evening Alan, I must say that when you first introduced the odyssey to Cosgrove, you did mention that your recollection of the journey was that it rained quite a lot - well you well your recollection was correct! Good job you have a good collection of waterproofs! Two questions today, both concerning kit: Do you use an external microphone, if so, which one? And can you let me know what video editing suite you us? I am looking to get some recommendations as I will be publishing my video of a recent trip to the South-west on KZbin. As usual, stay safe (and dry) Cheers.
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
When you say external microphone do you mean a wi-fi one. The answer as yet is no. I have recently purchased a Rode wearable microphone which attaches to the camera by cable. I’ve not used it yet. Eventually that will become wifi based. I just talk straight to camera. I’m using Power Director 365 for editing. Hope that helps, cheers.
