So after crunching the numbers here's a list of how the games rank based on their Robot Masters. I added together all the ranks from the Robot Masters, then divided the result by eight to get an average rank. This produced the following results: - #11: Mega Man & Bass, with 68,875. Pitiful number. Even having Ground Man at #12 doesn't save the game when three-quarters of the Robot Masters are in the bottom quarter of the list. - #10: Mega Man 5, with 60,75. Charge Man and Gyro Man might be high up, but the rest are all at the bottom. - #8/9: Mega Man 2 and 8 with 55,25. The only tie, with two clusters near the bottom being dragged up by the rest. 8 has both the highest and lowest ranking entry. - #7: Mega Man 1 with 49,75. The two pairings near the top (Bomb & Oil and Time & Guts) drag the stragglers at the bottom up nicely. - #6: Mega Man 6 with 43,75. Slighty fanned out with a focus in the low 30s. - #5: Mega Man 4 with 40,375. A wide grouping at the mid-range, with only Toad Man lagging behind to drag everyone down. - #4: Mega Man 3 with 39,875. Beating 4 with only half a point, Mega Man 3 has a tighter grouping with Needle Man and Shadow Man balancing each other out. - #3: Mega Man 7 with 35,25. A cluster in the low 40s is helped by having two entries in the top 5. - #2: Mega Man 10 with 26,875. Pump Man, Blade Man and Commando Man appear early, but when the other five are in the top 20 you'll score high. - #1: Mega Man 9 with 13,5. Not even a contest. Magma Man is the lowest at #30, and it only goes up from there with four entries in the top 10. So congratulations, Mega Man 9. You have the best Robot Masters.

Tomahawk Man's weakness makes a lot of sense. A native american getting sick by something they're not familiar with, such as a foreign flower. The problem is that the weakness uses way too much energy when it's able to be destroyed by projectiles and it doesn't even pierce through projectiles even if it would still use the same amount of ammunition.

I think ground man deserves more points on his weakness. It's awesome to plant the bomb on him while he's doing his invincible drill charge move so you can detonate it right away once he becomes vulnerable again. Not to mention that you can also prevent him from going underground by detonating as soon as he starts drilling through the floor.

you don't even have to detonate it, it detonates automatically when he jumps either underground OR into the ceiling, and will stop him from getting in the dirt.

Also, it's a weakness that makes sense. I mean, it's the exact same logic as Drill Man and Dive Missile - Ground Man is big and tough, so explosives make sense, and he's constantly getting away from you, so a remote-detonated stickybomb is pretty near perfect.

I find that that fight changes based on difficulty. On normal, I never actually saw him use power stone at all (he just jumped around like a psychopath and disassembled occasionally) but on hard, he used power stone relatively often and unlike in MM5, he could have multiple power stone attacks on screen at once.

I really like the robot masters where the weakness feels like a mini puzzle. For example: Tengu Man's weakness being the Ice Wave. It makes an interesting fight where you gotta wait for just the right moment to hit him with his weakness. Similarly, I like how Gravity Man's weakness is the Star shield. It forces you to play chicken with the boss and position yourself just right whenever gravity switches so you can him. Fights like these have an interesting way for you to use the weakness that keeps the challenge of the boss fight. I appreciate that!

Needle man was my favorite fight in the classic games for a buster only challenge the way you have to time your jumps with his head attack, the way you meticulously slide past his needles when he's far away basically being a better version of top man's attack with an extra projectile, and his design goofy, but clever and that weapon being basically a machine gun, I love this guy and I'm glad he made it in the top 10 good show!

I like this video. maybe I am a goof, but I always just used sawblades on woodman because he seemed to eat it hard with those and they are 1000% less annoying. In MM1 I always fight Fireman first. I found just jumping and shooting if you go in full life 99/100 you will outlast him anyway. And the fire shot is pretty nice in that game.

32:04 difficulty settings are great, especially if the higher settings give you something more if you're looking for a decent challenge or lower for those who just find the game too overwhelming. Ultra Violence is my favorite difficulty in doom 1-2 and 4 (didn't play 3), difficulty felt just right to me in those games.

The Retro Job I think he also means their art too. The Robot Masters from 1 to 6 on the NES in particular have two concept arts of them (by Capcom anyway). The original Japanese concept art, and an American one. After that, they have only one except for Astro Man and Tengu Man (one for MM8, the other for MM&B each). Not like it matters though. I think discussing this for all of them in the video would take too long.

Since freeze man is made to be pollution free, the junk would mess him up since he is not used to it Though this one is more reference based, dive being weak to the skull barrier could be because of how sailors fear death but science wise it could be because of the fact that it's energy based which is electric underwater Napalm man is also a reference to the fact that crystalline agents can neutralize napalm

I'll try to explain them in the ways that best suit how they act in canon. Turbo Man hates loud sounds not coming from his own noisy, smoky engines; Freeze Man gets his act (and job) ruined by the junk scraps; the Skull Barriers make Dive Man sick, and so he vomits; and Napalm Man gets gummed up by the Crystal Eye.

Well, we can see Turbo Man starts to shake violently and lose many bolts of his body when he is hit with Noise Crush, so either his design is extremely vulnerable to loud sounds or it's just the sheer force that shakes him up. Technically Noise Crush is the strongest "blunt force/impact" weapon in the game.

Would you believe me if I told you I love Burner Man in a similar way you love Slash Man? Yes, I'm dead serious. I find Burner Man, as Mega Man, uncharged buster even to be fun for me. I actually like him as a dangerous Robot Master. All attacks are actually avoidable and learnable (yes, his Wave Burner has a timing to it for which you slide under him and the Wave Burner) for the most part. I find this fight to be like this. "Think fast, move fast". The fight doesn't come without flaws though. I wish his room could've been smaller so you can see him more, but at the same time this room size and layout can work in your favor for avoiding certain attacks so I feel it balances out. I wish it wasn't random when he stops the dash. This used to cause many problems for me. That includes him jumping into me. It wasn't until I found out by staying on one side or the other, this isn't problem. This method I found for that dash actually made the fight even more fun because now his easiest attack (the propane tanks) can actually give me a run for my money and yet it feels so satisfying to successfully react to his moved. Or to pull off the dodge for the Bear Traps (the Bear Traps themselves for me actually don't give me that many problems). That and to top it all off, his sprite and over all design is fantastic. I hate that crazy look in his eyes for his concept art and that God damn smirk he has in his intro, but at the same time I can't help but love it. The bottom line is I like Burner Man, but I am not you Nico. You are an entirely different person with some similar and some different opinions than me. We just both happen to play Mega Man. I may disagree with Burner Man's placement, but that is merely my preference.

Jump straight so his dash doesn't hit you (he isn't Crash Man, he actually goes all the way). Remember that it's random when he stops, so if he stops close to you and throws a propane tank, you better think fast and move fast or you're taking damage (yes, I've found this situation possible to dodge, but man it is hard).

I personally would’ve put Charge Man a lot lower on the list. His pattern is consistent and all but good fucking luck if you’re actually able to jump over him without getting hit due to the lackluster hit box. Like you said with Gravity Man, great potential for a boss but executed poorly. But I gotta say out o your videos of this “Best-“ Mega Man series I agree with this one the most.

The first time I fought Freeze Man, oh boy! He absolutely OBLITERATED the mess out of me. It's like if you're having an online battle with someone, rather than just a CPU. Like, he's got SO MANY projectiles that you gotta dodge, and the thing that REALLY makes his fight a challenge is the fact that he JUMPS when you SHOOT. Fighting Cloud Man or Ice Man is so much better than fighting Freeze Man.

Freeze Man's fight is extremely tough at first. However, the pattern is extremely learnable and he telegraphs every single move. It's just a battle that requires practice, and even though the pattern's pretty tough to crack, it is extremely rewarding once you get it down.

The only moves he likes to telegraph (at least in my eyes) are the icicles and the Freeze Crackers. The icy floor attack, not so much. And, from my eyes, he seems to do all these attacks at random. (unless it's the icy floor). If anything, please let me know the pattern of Freeze Man's attacks.

Actually, as long as you keep your distance (and you should, when it comes to Freeze Man), and you see that he's jumping high up and forward, he'll always throw the Freeze Cracker downwards. In addition, he will never use the same attack twice in a row. If you plan on using Junk Shield, try getting only one attack at a time to lower the danger that getting close puts you in.

I disagree about how you rank weaknesses. I don't see it as a positive if a weakness completely invalidates the fight itself, such as the Rockman & Forte Tengu Man fight, you don't get to view the boss patterns and strategies at all, it's just a win button. I get that it's argued as being a "reward" for figuring it out, but that becomes less so for like the 5th and so on robot master you fight when u have like a bunch of weapons you can just try on the RM to then see which one does the most damage. I like it when it makes the fight easier, but I do also enjoy ones like the Burner Man fight and Dynamo Man fight where using the weakness isn't just a get out of jail free card, and where for the former especially you actually have to thoughtfully use the weapon. It's also not bad when the weakness doesn't work well functionally against the enemy, like a grounded weakness against an airborne enemy, it gives it a new depth of challenge, and still makes it a proper "fight". Also, this notion of figuring out the weakness for the first few robot masters is outdated with the internet being in vogue, so in games like 9, 10 and 11 it should be less emphasized the "reward" factor. Edit: Also, I should add watching further your inexperience in Rockman & Forte is showing a lot, like using the ice wall and then waiting to push it(bad idea, you should summon it right before pushing so that it doesnt break wit time), and then complaining about the cloud enemy in Coldmans fight when the point is to hit the cloud with a charged buster to remove it and then hit coldman.

I agree the best way to design a weakness is to not make the boss fight braindead, but I wouldn't say doing that is worse than having a weakness that is literally harder to defeat the boss than the buster. It's a weakness for a reason. If it doesn't work, then it shouldn't be his weakness.

But the buster is pretty simple to use and we're used to it, so weaknesses will always face that uphill battle of needing to adapt it to the boss's pattern, while for the buster it's more like adapting the pattern to the buster. So I think there is reasonable room to say that if a weakness needs some figuring out to do that it's not necessarily more difficult than buster IF the execution is easier, once figured out.

@@tiarabite Well, most of the time it's not, though. Usually "bad weaknesses", as I'm referring to them, are not only tricky to understand, but very hard to use effectively. A good example of a weakness that is hard to get right, but is more efficient than the Buster is Rebound Striker vs Sheep Man. Ice Wave, a bad example, is like having 2 slightly stronger stock charge shots for when Tengu lands, because you won't be using it more, it's so rare in the battle it's not even handy over the Buster. It helps you, but that's only because you can use both specifically in that game.
