Ohh I remember that promo, was a pre-order bonus in some european countries (I think limited to Greece or Italy even). Sadly here in the Netherlands it didn't exist, was kinda disappointed when that happened.

@@relo999 almost whole of EU had it but online its spread as a false rumor that it was limited to Greece. It's said it contained Acacia tree seeds. But I wonder which Acacia tree exactly as there are many different ones.

As I remember a lot of complaining online when it was told it was only limited to Greece and a lot of disappointed people when they didn't get it. As before that there were leaked images of all kinds of pre-order bonus's that almost all turned out to be limited to Greece. And seeing as I'm in the EU and had preordered it with a company that always has preorder bonus' I would have gotten it at least if it's EU wide. I did get a pre-order bonus, but that was an CD with all the music of ocarina of time, a poster and an alternative game box. (And the CD you got from nintendo if you signed up your copy to their system in the first week of release or so)

11:18 The Pikmin description actually says: "It's something that I found around. Looks like it was made by some foreign person." "Hiroimono" in this case would be 拾いもの, as opposed to the same-sounding 広いもの (something wide or big, as Google Translate interpreted it). Also, the second phrase is gramatically wrong in the original (passive verb along with the wrong subject particle), but the sense is basically that.

I do believe olimar's family can be seen in illustrations in olimar's End Of Day logs in pikmin 1; however, i dont think it was shown in that game what color they or their outfits were (log entries were white outlines)

Great video, glad to see more obscure Pikmin stuff being covered! As long as we're talking about the ujamushi again there's a couple interesting things I can say about them that hasn't been documented before. It turns out the 30 day repeating cycle of them spawning is a direct leftover of how object spawning in the first Pikmin game was used. Basically each individual day from 1-30 has its own file for what spawns on that day. This was used frequently in the first game, but these bugs are the only time it was used at all in Pikmin 2. It's very strange, and I'm guessing this was a last minute addition for the sake of not making that type of object spawn file go to waste. After day 30, the cycle starts over, so that's why you see them on day 31 and so on. Just thought it was interesting the way they used this leftover Pikmin 1 spawning system that would have been unused otherwise. Anyway one other thing that's cool about them is they actually have 3 distinct states programmed, "Active" "Dig" and "Wait". We only ever see Active state in the normal game, but it seems likely they were originally planned to hide in the ground similar to sheargrubs. Maybe they scrapped that because it would have made the bugs even more obscure and hard to find than they already were? Well that's enough rambling about weird technical stuff in this game for now, because there's a lot of it, hope you make more Pikmin stuff in the future! (Oh and regarding something you mentioned about the anime, you do see a picture of Olimar's family in one of the end of day logs in the first game, although it isn't colored in like the art there, afaik Pikmin 2 established those designs)

You should play pikmin 2 first, it's the most beginner friendly game and the games aren't really connected to eachother so you can play them in whatever order you want

If you want something really interesting about beta Pikmin stuff that's missing in this video:When you beat Pikmin 1, there's an enemy role call. However, if you compare it to the final game, there's a lot different. Enemies are in areas they shouldnt be countless times, and i swear the areas themselves feel unrecognizable at times. I'm unsure if it's worth a full video but it's certainly mystifying. (Also the names are all in alphabetical order with one exception, forgot which one, which implies a different name was planned.)

Actually, Olimar’s family is seen in pikmin 1 and 2, in 1 as a picture that olimar makes, and 2 literally sending mail to him And character D lives on through the drake, (pikmin 3’s spaceship) because they share a name

His family is depicted in a voyage log in 1, but only in a colorless image with designs that differ from how they appear in Pikmin 2. The animated short shows them with their Pikmin 2 designs, which means that the short would have to have been made sometime after Pikmin 2's release in 2004. This at the very least debunks the theory that the short was an official promo for the first game. I'm not sure if this is what he was getting at, but it's worth mentioning.

when i was little, pikmin 2 was an obsession of mine. i kept loading it up and just playing it. even after 100%ing everything in it. i finally encountered the ujadani by chance on day 331, near the gate to dream den. my tiny 11 year old brain was so confused and startled. a truly unforgettable childhood gaming moment for me

OH! i was going to email you, but i dont see your email at a glance looking at your channel. You mentioned towards the end of the video that you were interested in pikmin seedlings; a strain of flower from the genus sutera, marketed as "Bacopa cabana" (i thought the similar naming to a popular song was odd as well) but officially branded as The Pikmin Flower, was apparently supposed to go on sale in marketing centers starting in 2002. I have been unable to find any list of this plant for sale, but i have dreamed for years that i might have the good fortune of growing that particular strain one day. There's an IGN article with more information if you google "the pikmin flower". I've long been a fan of your videos, and would love to see your take on looking into the circumstances surrounding the strain's existence. Talk about some obscure lost media

I remember reading about that, I swear I thought that they had colors for the pink and lavender colored flowers too at some point but I can't find anything on that now. Never mind, I just found them on the pikmin wiki. I remember seeing that Pikmin short a long, long time ago on youtube, under the title "cheer up". I had assumed that it was uploaded by the creator, but I was a lot younger and a lot less skeptical back then, so it might not have been. By my best guess, I first saw it no later than 2013, though it could have been earlier and i feel decently sure the video was uploaded a few years before I found it, possibly around 2009, though my memory is very vague. This isn't much of a lead, though, as the video was deleted years ago (i had it bookmarked, so I know for sure it's gone), and I don't remember the name of the channel :( I deleted the bookmark a while back, too, since it was dead, but I might still have it bookmarked on my old laptop. kinda tempted to start that laptop back up and if I can find the url, even if it might not be much help.

About the mysterious Pikmin Short. I remember while I was looking at some Pikmin fanart I found on this obscure website when I was young, I found this one picture of Olimar and the three exact same Pikmin from the short looking up and starring at the viewers. Both Olimar and the Pikmin had the exact same artstyle as they did in that short (with the Yellow Pikmin holding the same flower, as Olimar was smiling and I think he either had his arms crossed, or they were on his hips). All the while the background showed screenshots from the short while I think some white text was shown on top of the image. And young Pikmin loving me knew that this picture and that short were somehow connected. I wish I still knew that websites name, than I could try and find that image in hopes of finding more information about the short

Something I noticed is that the number of captains you can play as in game depend on the game of the series. The first game has one captain, while the second game had 2 captains. I think getting a third character alongside olimar a louie would have been repetetive, which is why there’s different captains in the third game.

My best guess for the Pikmin Anime scene is that it's a well made parody of a similar scene from another anime/cartoon. I have no evidence to back this up, but if I had to guess, it would be an adventure movie, possibly in space, made before 2009

This might help you with future research, but just an fyi, all Japanese people can read English. Some can do it better than others, but they’re all taught English throughout their entire schooling. My point being, it’s probably better to leave questions and comments in English with your original meaning intact, rather than hoping google translate creates a coherent sentence. (Which isn’t always the case) I think this is a better option than reading a potentially nonsensical translation in their native language. I think most Japanese people are able to understand what’s being said in an English sentence, even if they don’t know all the words in it very well.
