Along all the technical capabilities that Moot Booxle posesses, I must say he also impressed me with his keyboard riffs and the way that he understands and performs music. He is a talented keyboard player as well. Thumbs up!

The return of the (keyboard) king. First class video as always sir. Your understanding of this technology is obviously immense which makes your posts so enjoyable to watch. For me, I'm confused enough using my microKORG. Keep up the good work, and less video vacations please :)

I'm really surprised I haven't heard of you till now, you are pretty awesome. I've watched this vid a ton of times (along with talkbox christmas) just to listen to the end when you compare the ghetto and the good one cuz you just make both sound so great.

That was one of the coolest talkbox demos I've ever seen. The ghetto one sounds pretty good, for a ghetto talk box, but you're right, there's no comparison to the better one.

The plumbing section of Lowe's. It's the WATTS yellow color coded stuff...a 1/4" bushing and a 3/8" hose barb. But if you can use the outside threads, do it - you get more SPL that way.

Let haters hate it's what they're good at. Thanks for the info. I built my own ghetto talkbox, made a few changes. Instead of a pvc cap I used a pvc threaded cap, I stuffed the inside with a few foam curlers to absorb some of the sound. Since I'm not a top notch solo on keys it was pretty fun to make and I can even see myself improving the design. Thanks again it was a really fun project.

Great advice! I should look up 'tensioning' or 'striving' chords-- from my music theory classes, the only one I vaguely remember I think is the II chord..
@mootbooxle17 жыл бұрын
Partly, it depends on the frequency response of the driver - you need a midrange driver that goes down to at LEAST 500Hz...I'm pushing 40w RMS into mine, and it's more than plenty. Just make sure you match the impedance between driver and amp.
@gir17 жыл бұрын
You're really good at playing the talkbox.. every note you played was totally in time, and yes there is a large difference there between the two.
@mootbooxle14 жыл бұрын
@gnrfanatic141414 That's weird! I know the sound you're talking about though - the only time that's happened with my drivers is when I've just got the volume too loud! Usually, if I get that "barking" or "flexing" kind of sound, that's my cue to turn it down! Do you run your talkbox pretty loud?

@mootbooxle17 жыл бұрын
The 'real' talkbox is a horn driver - it's the part that pumps the sound into the horn on the top of a PA speaker. It's completely airtight, and it works with air compression...you can feel the air coming up the tube when you play a loud sound through a good talkbox. So I guess the answer is yes! Thanks for looking.

Now I am getting confused :((( The 150W driver was too quiet to hear a reasonable sound from the tubing... even when connected to an amplifier.. then it blew.. Then I tried the ghetto version.. with the same result - almost no sound at all, even though the speaker is well isolated.. what could possibly go wrong? :(((
@Binford250015 жыл бұрын
okay the ghetto sounds real good for a bunch of thrown together parts but the real one sounds siiick!! so much clearer, defined, and full!
@mootbooxle17 жыл бұрын
goodness! What driver and amp were you using? You also need to make sure that the impedance (ohms) on your amp matches what's on the speaker. It really shouldn't cause all those kinda problems!!

@lukecinto17 жыл бұрын
I used a Rockwood driver along with a JVC 15W amplifier. And I also found that the tubing absorbs some of the the sound waves and makes the sound dissapear. What length do you propose it should be? With a temporary setup I finally kinda made it work, although still too quietly. and I found it hard to pronounce some of the consonants properly.. does the diameter of the tube make a big difference? And where do you suggest positioning the end of the tube in the mouth ifself?

You'd have to have a guitar amp hooked up to the speaker being used. The sound comes out of the tube and is manipulated by your mouth- hence you needing to have a mic right next to it.

This is true. They use Vocoders which is often built into a synth like the little one Korg produce. But I think what Lilbrooksy is trying to say is he prefers the sound of the ghetto talk box because it sounds more like Daft Punks vocoder.

+James Reeno Some tips: Practice going through the alphabet. It's pretty easy for some letters but takes a ton of practice for some of them to come out clear. Pretend like you have laryngitis. The sound coming through the tube provides the pitched tones that your vocal chords normal would, but you have to supply the sounds that your lips and tongue normally do - like "t" "k" "s" "c" "p" etc. The combination of those two things is what forms intelligible speech.
