We built a new camp. My dad had the glue but figured if he returned it he would save a ton of $. The nail gun was so much faster then screwing them down so used nails. Brand new camp and it pops like a old house when walking. I'm glad I was able to convince him the extra expenses for the sill plate to use treated over regular wood.

A little late but there is a kit that you can buy at home depot or Lowes that are scored on the shank that are perfect for refastening subfloor through the carpet. It's called Squeeek No More.

Jamie needs a watch on his Robo hand. I once pissed off some people in an office building when I was doing a huge signage install. All I had was the impact driver and I was screwing some sheetrock anchors and screws into a wall and this guy came out screaming at me from the adjacent room. Pretty funny because that was the last screw I had to place. Good times!!

There's a This Old House episode where they use special screws that break off below the carpet and padding. And you can use it without removing the carpet
@timothydillon64213 жыл бұрын
And now you know that was a sponsored segment. One squeak here and there sure but an entire room is a no go. Are you going to chalk lines on the carpet to run the screws. I'm actually surprised he put the carpet back down. I was shocked by how clean that carpet was.
@veloistist3 жыл бұрын
We have a loft extension where my son “lives” when he is home. Regretfully 20 years ago when we built it I had not seen the tricks to stop a squeaking floor. Unless you have lived with it you just can’t appreciate how irritating it is. Regretfully my wife won’t let me lift the carpet to fix it because the carpet was stupidly expensive.
@Building_Jays_Way3 жыл бұрын
That sucks…someone mentioned in the comments that they make screws that are meant to go through the carpet… I’m not sure how well they are hidden though.
@jamesmcfadden52143 жыл бұрын
Its a special tool that snaps off the screw directly flush with the subflooring. The kit comes with everything you need. You cant feel a thing afterwards. This old house has a video on it
@brycehinton78603 жыл бұрын
We've used regular trim head screws. Separate the carpet fibers, screw it it and it will pop right through the carpet backing and go through foam pad. Rough the fibers up with your hand and you can't even tell you did anything. Honestly the hardest part is locating the joist.

If Jamie built it when he was 22 and assuming that he is about below 40, the house then was built 18 years ago or less. Did they use Advantech back then or whas Advanteck subflooring added later?
