This is a quick overview of the Mystery Ranch Metcalf Pack. I have used a Metcalf every year for the last 7 years on different hunts and it is definitely one of the most versatile.

Great video, I have that same pack and love it. Quick tip though, you don’t have take the load lifters off to separate the pack from the frame when adding meat.

I have the Metcalf on the Guide Light frame, not sure but the newest version (2022) you just unbuckle vs remove straps to access load shelf. I've hauled elk out and it works great. On a second load I take the bag off and put the "backstrap " or meat hauler shelf on which is nice.

Great video!! I run the military overload pack with the addition of the optional higher load lifters for the nice frame. I also added the buckles on the waist belt which allows one to cinch the waist belt really tight. This pack carries a 20 pound rifle really well, better than any of the scabbard style packs I own. As a long range shooter and hunter my pack with rifle and shoot kit, the pack contents weigh around 65 pounds for a two day trip. One thing that stands out about MR packs is the cordura is more tightly woven than most other packs making them extremely durable.

Thanks for the video. I just recently went with the Beartooth 80, but I might have gone too big... anyway, I’d like to see more on photography, especially any revelations or realizations that helped you to take your craft to next level during your development as an artist. Not just tips or tricks which are cool, but maybe the key things that really helped you improve images or make a leap that an amateur probably wouldn’t do or know about.

I agree with you that less is more in terms of compartments and pockets. I have run my pack on more than 150 hikes and hunts, Yes you heard that right. I will say I would rather run my Kuiu 1800 day pack for comfort. With that being said nothing that I have run compares to this pack with an 80LB load I feel that that is the strong point of this pack.

thx for the vid, do you know what year model yours is? I see on the 2020 its 2 side pockets not one with a zipper, the belt seems different now too im jw i cant decide between this or the sawtooth im a 1-3 day kinda guy lol

Question for you, which would be a more ideal/versatile pack set up to cover both light day hunts up to to 4-7 day backpack trips with meat hauling, and why: 1) Metcalf, or 2) Sawtooth 45 + Beartooth 80 (bag only)

Here's my take on the pack ,after my 7 day hunt with this pack. The Metcalf Pack, meets my needs. I appreciate the custom fit features and load shelf. This pack holds plenty of gear for my use. It's simple to pack and access is quick and easy. Plenty support to haul as much weight, you can handle, in my opinion. Worked great for day hunts as well. Happy to have this backpack. Expect to get years of service out of it. Replaced my 2300 cu. in. day pack. My primary reasons for purchasing this pack are it's versatility and load carrying capability, price point and quality.

I wish they had some MOLLE points on the outside to add a little more secure points for spotting scope and what not Or the bag rifle rest like The eberlestock offerings

Theyve got a rifle sling/rest you can buy for their bags which is pretty slick. Sorta a hands free sling but still accessible
