A year ago we bought and installed a Starlink “In Motion” version setup on our motorhome. We traveled from SoCal to Illinois to SD to CO to Az and back to SoCal and never lost signal. We’re very pleased. For those not familiar with the “In Motion” version, this antenna is mounted flat (with slight tilt to let water (snow) run off), stationary on the motorhome roof with no motor. It has a 170 degree horizon. All I needed do was to avoid trees. I’m sold!

I have a Gen2, (Motor) not using now and got the E-Mail asking me to sell it back for $200 I said no! I waited over a year and paid $600 could not let it go for only $200. It is the monthly service price that has kept me from getting a Starlink. I can save up to make the initial purchase then that is done. In my area near Tacoma WA, xfinity gives me download speeds in the 800Mbps range for $100 per month. I am not a heavy user that needs that kind of speed but it just doesn't make sense to me to pay more for less.

I got it for online gaming because all other internets services either suck or don’t work in my area in this small town in SE Oklahoma called Boswell. We primarily use our Starlink for RV trips but I would love to use this as a secondary or emergency ISP for the house. Problem is, I cant justify spending an extra $150.00 per month in addition to my ISP. I wish they would come out with a more flexible plan that lets you pay per Gig or something along those lines.

I just ordered a refurbished kit. I'm in a major metro area and $120 a month is an $8 a month savings for us. Our provider we have had for years, and we don't have a choice for wired, is constantly going down. We are hoping this will be more reliable due to one of us working from home and the ability to take it with us to our mountain property in our rv is exciting.

Like a previous post elsewhere in this video comment section, we use Starlink on our RV. We are heading down to the Keys this weekend for a week and will be working out of our rig. We have the Gen 2 and I recently bought a Flagpole Buddy to mount it on our Class A rear ladder. I would LOVE to upgrade to the Gen 4, but it would require a new Flagpole mount and that's not something I would want to do right now. Love your videos on Starlink!

I live on top a mountain in Colorado with a very clear view of the sky and my speeds go up and down like a yo yo all the time. I will try in the future to factory reset my unit to see if it changes anything, (your suggestion some months ago). If it does speed things up I will report back in. If they're buying back units that aren't in use for $200 and selling them at a $200 discount, that means their effective cost for them is $400. The implication is that $400 is considerably less than their cost for a new unit. In the early days, it was rumored that cost for Gen 1 was several times the $500-600 they sold them for. I wonder what their cost on a Gen 4 is now? I have a Gen 2 at my cabin, where the only other option has been a 3 mbps (down) 500 kbps (up) DSL line from the local telco Co-op. Thankfully, they've run fiber now, and I just got word that it will only be a matter of weeks until they're ready to hook me up. Gigabit symmetrical for $90/month, vs Starlink for $120. Yep, my Starlink service will end up paused once the fiber is connected.

To consider returning I would need _consistent_ high speeds, lower cost for the equipment and $50 a month. Not sure I would give up my currently unused square automatic aligning dish for the newer generations. (I wonder if those new dishes even have the auto heating feature to melt away snow and ice.) It seems the higher speeds are based on which generation of satellite happens to be cruising by and not the generation of dish on your roof.

I have the gen 3, just bought it and dropped HughesNet. Before dropping, the speed test showed 3 mbps. Took it off and installed Starlink and got speeds averaging 300 Mbps. We are only paying $10 more a month than we were with HughesNet and with HughesNet we only got 40gb of data. It’s hard to complain when we don’t have options like fiber and we are in a very remote area and I don’t see fiber ever coming out here. I only waited so long to make the switch due to the price of the equipment, but I much prefer to purchase it than pay in installments. The price is a bit high, no one NEEDS internet. But the price is still very much affordable, especially considering who we had before with terrible speeds, only 40gb of data and the fact we paid for the equipment twice (only owning a single unit) and being threatened to be charged a third time if we didn’t ship the equipment back when I cancelled service.

Can I use a refurbished Unit and use it for a roaming account? At this time they are only offering the Refurbished unit when you select a fixed address. My other question is if I went with the fixed address to keep the cost at $120/month can I pause or technically cancel during the winter months we are not using it at the rural cabin we would be using it at. Mobile/ Roam says you can pause but not the fixed address. However, could I just cancel in November then start it back up in April? Thanks in advance for your answers.

I have had Starlink for over 2 years. I'm not cancelling anytime soon but if there was a reason to cancel it would be consistency especially in latency. Playing games online especially shooters is fine for the most part and then there's the inconsistency at night time or at peak times during the weekend when most people are at home and playing where the ping drops out and is unplayable for shooters. It's improving and getting there but we aren't quite there yet where you don't have to worry about it. I have the original round dish and I was seeing speeds of 400 mbps + when I 1st got it but latency was worse then too. Just give me some consistency and I will be a customer for life.

The service needs to match the price, although already high IMO, I pay 0.15 usd per megabit with latencies of sub 30ms in most cases and actual unlimited data, constantly hitting 2tb per month and im having a hard time hitting 3tb without maliciously congesting the network. If starlink can match or beat that then I'll be all in. If I can get a ping of sub 10 almost all the time then I'll sacrifice bandwith but I wont sacrifice ping for bandwidth.

@@jcristina This is what I found out, I can buy the refurbished Gen 4 but they will not buy my Gen 2 back (I am outside the buyback time), however my Gen 2 looks like it has a high demand on the market. I offered it up for $300 and it sold right away. (I probably underpriced it by $50-100) So my total out of pocket is about $170 for the upgrade including the wall mount. So I this would be less $ then doing a router V3 upgrade.

I have a Gen 2 roaming/RV package. Currently monthly price is $150 with "best effort" service. They advertise it as 'unlimited' which conflicts with 'best effort'. For the extra $30 a month for roaming I would expect to get tier one service just like the residential units. Quite honestly I don't see or agree with their 'roaming' profile going forward as the impact to the network regardless of geographic region would not only negligible but temporary at best. Yeah, $150 a month I would consider considering my residential cable is $60 un-throttled with 200+ down / 20+ up and under 20ms ping. A price of $100 a month to me would be more reasonable.

Ive been using a Gen 2 for about 2 years now. I loke that it automatically aligns and i don't have to think about it. Do i want better speeds and lower latency? Yes! Do i think that I should have to pay for new equipment to make that happen? No, not really. My Dishy/Mr. Bevel is my gateway to the Internet. I don't use the Starlink WiFi as I have my own router and mesh network. If the new antenna is good then why not make a retro kit? For me to swap to a Gen 4 i would need to rerun all of my cabling and seriously evaluate my mount.

The only way the latency would be better is the older gen modems needed a larger first in First In, First Out Data buffer, (FIFO) than the gen 4 devices. Or other stages that increase the data processing time before output to the computer LAN.

The two hold backs for me are the need and the price. Home wise, I have a fiber line for under $80 a month with 1 gig up and down. So why pay more for less. For the RV (not yet full time) it is still the price and speed. I have a cellular router (in simple terms as it does more) with a simm. While the router costs $460, the plan is attached to my phone plan and is unlimited @ under $20 a month. I can place other Simm cards in if my carrier is weak, but I have not had to yet. With that said, when I do travel for extended periods (quasi full-time), Starlink would be in the plan. Again, price, as the in motion package is steep for the small amount of data available it I want to use it in motion. I think if they revamp the in motion plan to increase the priority data to a higher cap and can lower the monthly price a bit, it would be more attractive. Oh, and for sea use, why have a 1 at $1000 or 5TB cap at $5000 a month? On the open ocean, they should be happy that something is using those satellite as they flie by idle.

I think it’s a pretty great product. The install could be a little easier if they didn’t have those proprietary cable ends to go through the wall, but otherwise the dish aim’s itself. What could be easier? For me, 100 mbps would be more than enough. Speeds are going up, maybe I should share with the neighbors and have them split the bill with me because $120 a month is a bit much. Where I live the choices are Star Link, Hughes net (which might as well be dial up) and no internet at all. So again, the choices are internet or no internet, and internet = Starlink. Rather than talk to those neighbors or have anything to do with them I would rather have the price lowered. $80 would work well for me.

Forget Steam downloads, could not even connect. No streaming period, No other service was provided at my address from other providers. Cell is a joke and as reliable as the internet service. 1st let me say, I love your channel. You have a good technical knowledge that convinced me to subscribe. As far as how I would answer that survey. Whether you're retired on fixed income or not, the price for Starlink service should at least be comparable to and competitive with the competition for the speed you are getting in the market you are providing service in. $120/month imho olis way too high. And like the pharmaceutical industry, they sell for less abroad compared to the US market. Both of those are what I call financial rape of your customers. So I would have answered the survey by selecting the service is too high. A comparable competitive price in my local with Cox Internet for similar speeds is $64.99/mo for 250Mbps and $74.99/mo for 500Mbps. So it would seem to equal the competion in my local, Starlink should charge comparable service prices or under cut them at a lower price per month. So I would say for me, Starlink monthly service should be say $59.99/mo. unless their up to speed increases.

We’re Wi-Fi 5 for a better idea if the ver. 4 dish is making a big difference than other earlier version dishes, test with a lan connection!
