The Dover demon one absolutely terrifies me. I remember seeing an episode on it from monsters and mysteries as a kid years ago. The monster itself was already scary and the fact that it would go on trees was actually really scary. This was because my auntie's house had a bunch of trees in the backyard and every time I used the bathroom upstairs and it was night time I would always look at the window and think it was out there.

I can understand. When I was about 5, my mom told me if I told a lie a dragonfly would sew my mouth shut. I was so terrified of dragonflies that I hid under a quilt out on our backyard lawn in 100 degree heat because there was one flying quite close to me. By the time they found me, I had severe heatstroke and had to go to the ER. To this day they still give me a slightly weird sensation when I see them.

Fun fact: The Loveland Frog picture at 16:58 is actually from a streamer I used to watch during an art stream, they found out about the Loveland Frog and thought it was really funny and decided to draw it, their sketch ended up looking like one of those eyewitness sketches so a viewer decided to take a screenshot and upload it on the Loveland Frog Wikipedia page. It was since removed but you can still find it from Google, I started laughing when I saw it on this video lmao

the one at 1658 is very similar to what I seen there were four of them and as I tried to get away they shocked the s*** out of me three different times. I kept telling myself that I was hallucinating and every time I try to get up to run they would shock the s*** out of me they were evil as f*** and not humanly evil like a dark evil that I've never experienced in this life like a satanic demonic evil and one of them smiled and I felt like my soul was molested. there was four of them total I was simply trying to take a shortcut through an alley during a thunderstorm

For me personally, I think the Wendigo is EASILY the scariest. I live in the Midwest and it shocks me that I live not to far from the state that they are said to live in the USA, that being, Minnesota. Idc if it’s more than likely fake, it’s flipping scary!

I'm metis living in Manitoba. I listened to old stories from elders and a cassette tapes with indigenous children's stories that talked about the wendigo. In one of them there was a group of wendigo that buried their hearts in the ground so they could not be killed and started eating the children of the village.

i live in minnesota and there are a bunch of ‘bigfoot’ experiences/stories most all of them in the northern part of the state which is mostly uninhabited with many small lakes/ponds, river channels, and verry heavily wooded stretching over 100’s of miles. could very well be mistaken for wendigo, could be just sasquatch, could be both! there’s a lot of wildlife and heavy woods so if they are real it would make sense to be rarely sighted if they have indigenous animals to eat and not many people explore, and when they do they probably would avoid wanting to be seen

I appreciate that you featured the Wendigo! I grew up in New Mexico, and there was a night where me and my friends saw something that looked earily similar to the classic Wendigo description. Ben Radford's book Tracking The Chupacabra really is gold. Not only blows the idea apart but demonstrates how false reports can happen and lead to widespread hysteria. It's utterly fascinating to see a cryptid invented in my lifetime and be able to pinpoint the how, why and when of it all.

Topics such as this have fascinated me since childhood. At the time, I felt certain that most if not all of these purported creatures were, in fact, real. While my view of the matter tends to be more critical these days, it has also become much more nuanced. After all, learning to take an even-handed approach from multiple perspectives can and does lead to some interesting conclusions. There are many instances that offer very interesting food for thought.

Used to be a huge cryptid skeptic, thought bigfoot looked like a guy in a suit and the Lockness Monster looked like a bit of driftwood. Then I SAW a Jersey Devil. I thought it was just some normal black wild goat out in a wetland just past a pine forest while I was driving through South Jersey. Then it raised it's head from where it was drinking and stretched its w i n g s . I gotta tell you. I almost crashed my car. I drove back by the place three times but didn't see anything again. I had only heard of something called the Jersey Devil once or twice but never heard or seen a description. Once I heard the full story from my dad and saw a drawing of the Devil, I almost threw up. Now I'm not advocating for the existence of all cryptids ever talked about, but I will say that the Lockness Monster has looked a lot less like driftwood since I saw that winged goat...

An absolutely wonderful documentary. Both educational and entertaining, plus you managed to avoid the sensationalist "they want to keep the truth from you. cryptids are real!!!" approach and the "i apply the scientific method to debunk these claims" way of looking at things, both of which - on their own - seem short-sighted to me (the whole thing is also really cleanly and effectively edited - i'm just starting out with doing my own short video essays on youtube, so i guess i'm hypersensitive to that sort of thing at the moment, lol). I love cryptids and am absolutely fascinated by them, but the question "are they real or not?" has always been a lot less interesting to me than the exploration of all the different stories, depictions in art etc. etc. ... not sure if anybody feels the same way, but in any case thank you I thoroughly enjoyed watching this.

I knew this guy who lived all his life in WV, and he was terrified of the woods. He always used to tell how one day, while he was on a hunting trip with his grandfather and uncles in 1987, they all saw this huge, white-furred thing chasing a deer up a hill. He knew it was no bear, since it charged like a chimp or a gorilla, and made this deep, booming trumpet-like sound instead of growling or huffing like a bear; and it was huge. Like the size of a moose. That's how a coworker supposedly saw the Grafton Monster, one of West Virginia's lesser-known monster.

Iirc it doesn’t have to be brain matter, but rather any part of the nervous system (it’s also not exclusive to human meat) which would be quite difficult to avoid were you to participate in cannibalism. You can also have it for years without any noticeable symptoms, and it is contagious through consumption (if you eat something/someone that has it, you contract it, and if someone/something eats you, they contract it, and so on and so forth). It’s why having a culture that participates in cannibalism is so dangerous.

Human beings are so imaginative. Picture living 200+ years ago, when folklore and religion dominated human consciousness. Seeing dangerous or unknown animals in the dead of night would easily lead to any one of these stories, and the further back you go the more wildlife we encountered as a species. I can only imagine encountering the short-faced bear or a terror bird and the stories that would be passed down for generations.

I had a very brief encounter with the paranormal. So it was summer of 2017, I was at a program for my school called Rec. For context, Rec was a little Park/Playground that students of my school went to from grades kindergarten to 3rd, it had a shed where equipment was stored (trust me, that part is important, you'll see why soon). So I was there with my friend Dunken and someone else, we were in the shed and when we looked at some cardboard with a hockey stick on it, the cardboard moved. Now there was no wind that day so it couldn't have been the wind. Idk what that was but I did see a terrifying face with glowing purple eyes in the window of the shed the next time I looked in it...

Hi! I'm from Puerto Rico. I was a teen when the Chupacabras ate it's first goat. It was a really big deal. As teens we used to go to El Yunque (in Canóvanas) at night to drink and have a good time. People around the area swore that they would see ovnis flying in and out of the mountan. It was always heavily guard by MPs. Real theory was that inside the mountain was a lab and that is were the Chupacabras escaped from. It was plausible because there had never (or has) been such a big use of government and military to search for a cryptid. It doesn't even make sense! Also, the P. R. Chupacabras wasn't described as any hairless dog by those who claimed to see it. That came a couple of years later when it was "seen" in the U.S. I think we are talking about 2 different species of animals.

after watching some of the Skinwalker Ranch stuff, specifically when they interviewed the Colonel (season 3 I think(, he mentioned seeing a giant 3 toed print on the ground of the Ranch. His thought was that these creatures appear temporarily when the barrior between worlds is thin. I tend to think all these cryptids suffer that, and thus are nearly impossible to find.

Hi Justin! Spanish speaker here. The correct name for the creature is “El Chupacabras”. That might sound like you are referring to several goat suckers, but the plural is actually added to the word not in reference to the creature, but in reference to the action. It didn’t suck ONE goat but several. So the plural: Cabras 🐐 will get added at the end of the word. The translation is the same however.

Pro to say we don't have any cryptids in Chicago, unless you count the giant rats, but those are just big fucking rats, and everybody I seen them at some point probably more than once, and you just throw something (like a hunk of concrete) at them and they will run away. Although, road repair crews might qualify as cryptids. Road construction is always happening, but you never actually see anything getting finished. Thus all the hunks of concrete, blacktop, or stay brick.

I know quite a bit about Bigfoot and I have to say, your bit on Bigfoot was really awesome. I liked how you didn’t drag your opinion through the whole thing and ruin it, instead showing both sides and ending with it being more possible than most things but still unlikely and comparing it to things like the giant squid and platypus. But I wished that you had explained more about the regional Bigfoot as they vary greatly in both looks and experiences, one of which I’m most fascinated about, the Ohio Grassman. From what I know the Grassman is quite litterally Bigfoot’s bigger brother, sightings estimate it to be between 9 to even 11 feet tall and weight as much as a small car. Of course these proportions are both terrifying and also hard to believe, but not impossible as they aren’t really well known air studied. I’m not gonna get into that but I just can’t imagine being a countryman from southern onion hunting in the forest and all of a sudden your greeted by this 11 foot tall, colossal, hairy, bipedal, ape with giant teeth and massive arms snarling and growling like a lion. I’ve also heard that this Bigfoot in particular possesses unbelievable strength, as it is said to knock down trees to access fruit and known to throw rocks and other large objects at intruders.

@@breakerofrocks Natal in Brasil. There are almost no natives left in the northeast coast, but most of their legends, tales and myths were mixed with european traditions. The huge amount of cultures mixing together, with all of its ups and downsides, created an array scary stuff, like the Dry-Corpse, the Curacanga, that has an european origin, the Labatut, created after a french general when they founded Saint Louis, the Quibungo, an african ish legend, the Mapinguari, a native one, the river dolphin myth from the amazon river, and the Capelobo.
