@davidt8438

One of the worst experiences is when you don’t get your package and you go to check where it is, you find the purchase says it was delivered. You might have sat at home watching all day for your package and saw the mail truck drop off mail and then watched as the UPS truck or Fed Ex drove past your house and they never stopped to deliver anything but it still says your package was delivered. So you think you’re going crazy and you walk outside and pick up your mail and look around everywhere but nobody delivered anything. Then two days later while checking again for the fifth time it might change to say sorry your package has been delayed, you can expect it sometime in the next month. And this is all with Prime.

Yes this is happening a lot to me. Updates on Amazon slow to update. You wait in, the time goes by until hours later you get either we tried to deliver, no they didn’t, or it will be delivered eventually. I’ve been on to their delivery dept multiple times. I sometimes send a parcel to a Locker. Twice I’ve had that they could not deliver. What on earth is the excuse that they can’t get it in a bloody locker. My son reckons they just can’t be bothered to get out and deal with it. I agree with him. Deliveries in general seem to have become dreadful. My most annoying times are one particular delivery woman doesn’t come to the door at all (door cam) and just puts it in my recycling bin 🤮 This is not a safe place. I’ve chased various places the company, the delivery place. Gone online to try to stop this practice. The problem is that once “delivered” it’s my responsibility. One of these packages had over £200 worth of goods. It stayed in my bin for 6 hours. The delivery company normally sends an email saying delivered with a photo. Didn’t get that. Neither did the website say delivered. I was stomping as you can imagine. After being in “chat”, you can never get to talk to someone, it was all sorted within about an hour. Rant over 😂

I had worked at Amazon Fulfillment center for 5years. I have never had a Prime membership nor do my family members. I only shop from Amazon when they are the only place carries what I look for. I always buy from small mom n pop’s stores as much as possible n encourage everyone to do same. One more hint: never buy food items such as cakes n candy from Amazon. The edible items are randomly stored with other toxic n chemicals such as herbicides n engine oil and the list goes on. How do I know? I worked there for 5 years

The instrument looked OK until I paid a little closer attention, then could see the pick guard was scratched up from having been played. It was a used guitar, so I sent it back. I don't know if they are still doing it, but another dirty trick not mentioned is their dynamic pricing. If you a new customer, pricing starts out decent. Then, depending on the number of orders your place and how long you've been a customer, the prices they show for you start going up. My options are to buy a top-of-the-line model that sucks the air out of the bag (really?!) or I can buy a less expensive item but I have to get 2 or 4...I only want 1. Research what Walmart has done to the grocery stores in every city, how much they pay their employees and the work environment they have. Walmart's buying power (Costco is like this also) pushes the prices down so low from all major brands that these brands then make the middle-size and small-size buyers (local grocery stores) pay higher prices to make up the difference in lost profits. They essentially drive all other grocery stores out of business. And Walmart used to be affordable, but they are increasing their prices faster than inflation also. Now it's cheaper to shop at Asian, Latino and Aldi/Lidle stores than Walmart. Stop shopping at Walmart for stuff you can get at other stores for less money.

This will be my last year as a prime member - its just not worth the fees anymore and we need to start supporting local retailers or we loose that choice.

Well that's your personal opinion good for you. Me personally I buy all my spices and almost everything I buy is from Amazon and the prices are always cheaper than anywhere else. And the price that I paid for free shipping is nothing because it's not just free shipping. It's also for music and awesome videos. I paid that much every year just to have a streaming service so why is it so expensive when you also get music and shipping? Also free photos storage. And the wonderful 6 or 12 months same as cash!

This is very important information! I keep all the items I need for household repair and remodeling projects in my Amazon Saved list all year long. I then memorize the cost of the more expensive items and watch it weekly. I witnessed all of these items increase 25-45% in the 4 weeks leading up to the current Black Friday sale (Nov 2024). Every single item was still more expensive during the Black Friday discounts as opposed to what sellers were charging several months before. As a result... I bought absolutely nothing!! LOL. Sad. I'm over 80 years old and have seen this game played many times. You can go back to the telephone companies years ago. They had to be split up but gradually, after the split, wound up rigging things again. So we'll see what happens this time. Why people always seem to wind getting greedier when they get wealthy.....go figure....seems like they would want to do some good with a lot of the money they have stockpiled.

It’s like Netflix-only worse. There was a golden age of streaming. There was also a golden age of Amazon when it was more pro consumer than not. Antitrust action is warranted. Capitalism is great when it’s balanced with strong regulation; otherwise it eats the competition, then when it’s the only game in town jacks the prices on both seller and buyer. That’s where we’re at now. Eventually when big enough it buys favorable government regulation by paying for political favor. We’ve seen it all before in other industries… pharmaceuticals, fossil fuels. Once it reaches that point the little guy doesn’t stand a chance.

Don't forget that it's also partly due to consumers having unfair expectations at times. People got too used to the quick returns or using things and than expecting a 100% return. It goes both ways. Amazon getting too big for their britches and consumers expecting no repercussions for their own buying habits. Honestly, I have no issue with prime and I'm very picky about what I buy. I spend a lot of time making sure I'm getting the best deal I can and I order things to ensure I get the fastest shipping and lowest prices. Being a smart shopper is important no matter where you buy. And I've never had an issue with returns. They refund my account and I make sure I take care of the item I'm returning. I also take pics of something if I have concerns. Consumers need to take some responsibility for the issues.

Amazon had me take pic’s and, based on that, interpreted that they would refund only 6 jars of value. There was Vegemite everywhere, and all jars were broken. About 12 of them were decapitated, the other half caved in. It was an FBA fulfillment by Amazon order, 3 days late incidentally , and I am certain the seller took the hit. The jars were not packed, but simply thrown into a box with no bubble wrap, no protection at all. If you are a merchant, build your own site and think of other additional channels of sales. After 3 purchases I finally had to pay for my 6 cans of nacho cheese. They would just toss 6 #10 cans in a box with a little paper packing on top and expect it to arrive in decent condition. They did not in fact arrive in decent condition, every time until the last every can would be dented at the least, and usually on the rim. Fortunately they had our back on those and refunded our money. The last item was an window AC, the delivery driver literally dropped it in my driveway, said the hell with it and left. Seller just ignored us when we sent a message saying that since it was an AC it was non returnable because of the refrigerant. In the end we got a refund and we kept the unit, its ugly, but the beauty of free makes it a lot prettier.

Indeed, you really need to pay attention to where the seller is located on Amazon. I sell as a 3rd party seller (not FBA) on Amazon, and now have Chinese sellers jump on the listings and listing for way cheaper prices than I can sell for. I did test buys to see what they were sending from all of these many Chinese sellers that jumped on the listings, and they are just sending light weight stuff that is cheap for them to ship, but isn't what was ordered. I tried to report it to Amazon, but Amazon said they didn't see any issue with the Chinese sellers ripping off buyers like that. It's crazy. So, now most of the sales on those listings go to the Chinese sellers who get the buy box due to their low prices, but they don't ship what the buyer orders, so it takes a long time for the buyer to then get some light weight incorrect item, and Amazon doesn't allow the legitimate seller of the item to do anything about it. On top of that, a lot of the buyers who bought from the Chinese sellers will then take it out on the listing saying they didn't receive what they ordered which hurts the legitimate seller of the item who created the listing in the first place. Once the Chinese sellers destroy the listing enough with bad reviews they cause, they just move on to other listings to take over and repeat.

It’s getting harder to find things in brick and mortar stores as more and more shut down due to online shopping and higher rent increases. If they don’t shut down they scale back. If you want to tap Amazon's customer base then you must play by their rules. I use prime for zero shipping cost and 2 day shipping. I was getting 3 to 5 packages per week. Now, 2 day shipping is gone for me and returns are like jumping through hoops so I now buy about 1 item a month and have canceled prime. Amazon prices aren't that cheap either and factoring in any postage kills the deal. Also, pre-ordering means NOTHING to them. I pre-ordered a CD from them and on the day of release, they said they couldn't get hold of it. Three months on I am still waiting ... I can't cancel as I would then get charged the postage on half my combined order. I can't order from elsewhere as the price has since doubled and I could end up with two. I can do without that sort of hassle.

The simple answer is that it costs money to have other people gather the items in your online shopping cart, package them, and deliver them to your door. When you need a lot of stuff, especially heavy stuff, it makes far more sense to go to a local store in your car and do your own shopping because the money you spend on gasoline and the time you spend driving to the store and back are fixed costs. And delivery vans from Amazon, Walmart, Kroger, etc. seem to be be more limited by weight than volume. It's hard for Amazon to justify delivering cases of soda or gallons of milk because the profit on the sale doesn't justify the space and/or weight allocation in the delvery truck, but if someone orders a diamond ring, the profit is huge compared to the delivery cost. Also, even though we are paying for free delivery through our prime memberships, the prices of goods are also artificially high to reflect delivery costs. This is very evident if you compare the total cost of staples like milk. Amazon and your local grocer probably pay very similar amounts per gallon from dairies. If anything, Amazon would be paying less because their order quantities are higher. But Amazon will charge way more than you pay at your grocery store because they have to pack the delivery fee into the price. If they quoted separate shipping, everyone would say "screw that, I'm not waiting around for the deivery AND paying a lot for it when I can just hop in my car and be back in 20 minutes".

I'm so tired of hearing comments like "guess who is paying the extra fees/increases?" It's always the consumer. The supplier NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER pays out of their own pocket. That's the whole point of businesses - they pass on ALL costs to the customer. Stop saying this stupid comment as if it's new or unknown. The only question by consumers should be: Is the price increase worth the product?
@hanko5750
@hanko5750 Ай бұрын
Of course the supplier doesn't. No different than cooperate taxes, its a "back door tax on consumers" as corporations just add to the price. Cooperates taxes are always a tax on We The People.

I, and many people I know, are finding what we need directly from manufacturer websites. We find what we want on Amazon. Then, we go to the manufacturer website and buy from there. It’s very common to find it cheaper and with faster/free shipping regardless of the retaliation by Amazon on the seller. In many cases, the seller isn’t even the manufacturer.

They made the choice to shut out individual sellers forcing them to use ebay, and now it's costing them volume. I used to sell tons on Amazon, and now sell zero.

eBay is also overloaded with cheap Chinese copies of products too and they make it seem like it is a U.S. company then later you find out it’s not (when you are trying to get a refund for not getting the item you paid for). Ugh. What to do when you rely on online purchasing and can’t afford to pay the crazy high prices that many websites charge

Don't hold your breath about the fine doing anything, Bezos will just work around that and in the end the resellers and customers will be paying for it. As for a break up ... I remember the same commotion with Microsoft some decades ago ... that too didn't go anywhere.

First thing I did was drop Prime. I was a little addicted to 2 day delivery but honestly order comes 2-4 days regular delivery. Returning items is a hassle for me. No printer and live 15 minutes from drop off. Then I just put stuff in cart, came back next day and removed most things. Then I just quit going to Amazon altogether. Tough love… I got tired of iffy quality anyway. I’ve quit most shopping altogether. I only buy minimal gifts for children in family for birthdays. No Christmas presents. They don’t care..they get so much all year long. I’m back to buying local in order to keep local stores available. Might cost a little more but easy returns, friendly service and I buy what I need without adding a few extra items to cart. Grocery shopping in a small local grocery store saves me a lot. There’s not as many choices but has the basics without enticing me to buy an extra $20 on unneeded items.

There’s a common thread in so many economic issues, pressure for continuous growth in stock price / maximizing shareholder return. Focus on this leads to layoffs, decreased quality and exploiting customers.

Great Video. One thing that you didn't mention is Walmart. They are spending a massive amount of money to compete with Amazon, and they now have better and faster shipping to my home (which is in a rural area). Recently Amazon has implemented a chatbot that won't let you get to a human unless you type in something like "I am going to request a charge back from my credit card company". The Amazon AI then immediatlely connects you to a human. Walmart, on the other hand, has good old fashioned phone customer service. They refund quickly for problems, and they are generally better on getting things to me on time, including same day deliveries. How is Walmart impacting Amazon, and how does this affect the "monopoly" claim?

@ I don’t have credit cards. I don’t believe in them. However, I did make out okay as I bought it on the Amazon payment plan…using my PP card. So, in the end I ended up paying for only half of the cost, and I simply left my PP account with no money on it. I contacted Amazon again and told them if they were willing to send me a prepaid shipping label and guarantee I would receive a full refund, I would do that. Never heard back from them.

Impossible to speak with a real human being if you have problems with an order--horrible. I buy a lot of stuff from Amaz😅n but their customer service has been disappointing lately. They send me boxes that are so heavy that I can't into my house without the box ripping apart and contents spilling out on my steps. My heart goes out to the Amazon delivery people that have to deliver overweight boxes to my home because Amazon ferls I shoukd be able to drag a 40 pound box from my front door steps into my home

I notice whenever I purchase something, the price rises shortly after. As if I like the product, now I'll have to pay more. Also, more often than not, if I save an item, the price goes up. I know with algorithms can likely target me and raise prices on goods I'm looking at. I always check other sources, including ebay. I will pay slightly more on ebay, particularly if it's a product or maker I'm familiar with, because I know sellers are treated better. Unfortunately, I can usually only buy Amazon fulfils products because of Brexit (N.Ireland). Many sellers won't send to N. Ireland on Amazon and ebay.

I quit using ebay as much when I ordered an ebay product new, it took extra long to arrive and it came in Amazon packaging. I started checking both websites when I was looking for a new item.. eBay will list the same thing as amazon but a few dollars more.. so then they will list what they don’t physically have but when you order it from eBay then that seller quick orders it from amazon at the cheaper price and they make a few bucks yet don’t have to have the item on hand nor do they have to package or ship it. Tricky.
