This was 8 months after commercial independent station WNTA-TV (nee WATV dating back to 1948), became WNDT. Newsman Edward R Murrow hosted a program welcoming viewers to the new channel 13. In 1970, WNDT became the present WNET Thirteen.

I noticed there's a slight side-to-side movement of the camera on this slate--that movement definitely tells me that there was an "orbiter" installed between the camera's lens and pickup tube. Orbiters were a opto-mechanical device (not to be confused with the Orbiter tv camera crane seats used today) commonly used on image orthicon tube-based video cameras in the 50s and 60s, since the orthicon tubes suffered from image retention if it was placed on a still subject for a period of time. Plasma TV sets from the 1990s and 2000s would also suffer from still image retention after long periods as well, so most had a feature to electronically move the picture on the display around to mitigate said retention, much like the camera orbiters of the past.

How long was that countdown been around? Seems hardcore for the early 60's, lol.
