Factory New Boeing 777 Cargo Delivery Flight - Silk Way West

I visited Boeing factory in Everett, WA and got on the delivery flight of a brand new 777 Freighter of Silk Way West Airlines. In this vlog, I documented the Boeing delivery flight details onboard the world’s largest twin-engine freighter, the Boeing 777F.
The delivery flight started with dispatch inside the Boeing delivery center, with pilot briefing on weather and routing. I went onboard the brand new 777 cargo plane, discovering the massive cargo hold with 105 tons of cargo capacity. In front, there are 4 seats for supernumerary, a small galley, and crew bunk. It was different, no cockpit door, no flight attendant here to serve you…
Flight time from Everett/Paine Field to Baku was 13 hours and 5 minutes with 4 pilots onboard including a Boeing training captain. We were treated to a full moon rising not long after takeoff. As the sky got darker gradually, we were treated to another phenomenon, the northern light! It was beyond words.
During the flight, I chatted with the flight engineer about configuration and their work before delivery. Their work actually started 1 year ago before the plane was built! The pilot told me the new airplane needed to activate Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM) in order to fly in the busy airspace. Silk Way’s B777F also needs to acquire ETOPS 180 minutes approval since the airline was only operating 4 engine B747. Before landing, I share about how to get on a delivery flight.

Most of us can only dream of seeing the Northern Lights. Sam here saw them during a full moon and through the cockpit windows of a brand new Boeing 777.

Sam, that was the best of the best!! Great explanations from the crew (all of them) with accompanying visuals at the assembly factory. Excellent job of explaining RVSM to the non-aviation viewers. I have done several RVSM certification flights in the USA in jets and turboprops. very accurate explanation of ETOPS to the aviation enthusiast. Some aviation personnel jokingly say it means, "Engines Turn or People Swim." The airplane will be a great asset to Silkway and their business model. Thank you for bringing this delivery flight to our attention.

Judging from what the engineer said, this 777 was ordered and delivered only a year or so after ordering, that's rapid! Some cars take longer to build! (due to waiting lists of course; I know that)

Boeing is selling production slot on their airplane, so customer airlines buy a slot, then configure before Boeing start building it.

⁠@@n1msuAirlines have been known to trade production slots. In addition, slots become open because an airline might want to delay its delivery for many reasons. Like cashflow. Finally, the speed of production can change by the manufacturer increasing shifts, workers, etc. it’s a dance to make it all match up and get maximum efficiency and profit.

I went to the Boeing factory and did the visitors tour, way back in 1989 and saw the 1st 747 400 being rolled out of the paint shop. The whole site is huge. Was a fantastic day.

Just like the Boeing 747, the Boeing 777 is also one of my favorite aircraft and a beautiful aircraft in my opinion. I remember spotting a Boeing 777 takeoff from Jakarta and my god it was awesome. I think the Boeing 777 is not just one of the most automated commercial aircraft in the world, but also the biggest twin engine aircraft ever made and has a perfect safety record.

Really enjoyed this video because a lot of the Boeing airplanes start here in the air capital, Wichita. Our Boeing builds a lot of the fuelslages then they get sent often by train northwest to Seattle for completion. We also have spirit, Cessna, beechcraft. And another one that has slip my mind. The presidents planes come her to be serviced. The Harrison Ford flies here routinely to get his plane serviced. The big treat which I think you would really like is our diamond here in Wichita and that is DOC a B 29 bomber from ww2 fully restored. The bonus is you can take her up for a ride. Pretty amazing huh. If you ever make it here would love to meet you and say hello.
