I worked at the N3 in the early 80's fixing all the "non-cowboy" repairs. It was one of the best jobs I ever had.

Many years ago, I spent some time on N3 as a guest of Art Cherry Jr. His dad Art Cherry Sr. was the manager over N3 and Whitehorse Ranch in Fields OR. Art Sr. was Ted Naftzger's Swordfish boat captain on the Hustler. Over the years I stayed at three of the hunting cabins and drove many miles of the dirt roads.

The N3 Ranch is basically the area surrounding Mines Road out of Livermore. The region is a lot drier than the video is presenting but the ability to only sustain 650 cow-calf pairs pretty much says it all. I only know of two parks along the way Del Valle at the Livermore end and Frank Raines at the Patterson end. There are a few mineral deposits that are being mined on some of the mountainsides but nothing glamorous like gold or silver.

I was curious-that last scene: Is that looking south towards mount hamilton in the distance? It looks like thats in Arroyo del Valle Canyon. BTW, I used to hike around in the hills years ago at the ranch at Mendenhall Springs. Back then the Georges' owned it (sixties) and they owned a few sections of land all the way up to Cedar Mountain. It was in the late sixties that Lake Del Valle with park were brand new. thank you

Cali Fornia Patriot Wish I could. And I was off...its 5 in the last 2 weeks, 8 in the last month, that are significant properties. I know there are cycles in real estate, and maybe it's all just coincidental retirement of one generation, and the next not wanting the responsibility. However, I think everybody is on alert for "something", and I have been busy scaling back our possessions and lightening our life. I suppose many feel that with Newsome following Brown, California will continue its downward spiral of increased taxation through fees, skyrocketing inflation of consumables, moral degradation, and more & more government control. My guess is that people see the handwriting on the wall for California, and are trying to get ahead of it. Just my opinion though; I could be completely wrong and California may be heading into a new golden age. Your thoughts?

@@tomsinclair1264 I agree. I have been seeing the death of the silicon valley/ bay area housing market coming for a long time now. It does seem apparent that there cannot be much more demand for this California market with increased regulation and depreciating moral standards. I believe part of this an attack on the American real Estate market by offshore Chinese Real Estate Agencies to drive property values so high that it causes massive socioeconomic issues. I believe a larger portion to be part of the degradation of influence the silicon valley has over the masses. They are no longer, ( just like tv and radio) able to exist off of adds without the customer/ client base to view those adds. GoOgles parents company and many other tech/ media giants are posting record losses/ right offs. I think there is something coming for sure. But again, could be wrong. lol

Why are there so many inholdings (I count at least six)? This means you have to provide an easement, so there goes your privacy. Henry Coe State Park has a few, and it's disconcerting backpacking/biking the backcountry and running into a disgruntled inholding inhabitant on his way to his 100 square-foot parcel. You expect a modern ranger truck to come around the corner, not a 1945 Willy's MB without a license plate.

I am excited that this ranch MAY have chance to become next California state park so that we can visit, instead of just watching yutube video. However, COVID-19 comes in at the wrong time and California can only afford $5 millions at this time. Hopefully, some rich people or bay area rich high-tech CEOs can step in to help California government to buy this land or shared among Ca government and private investors. Thanks for having us posted for any potential good news!
