Good info. I think a lot of people don't realize there are many approved masks out there, KF95 (from reputable CDC or Health Canada approved lists) that are just as efficient but aren't as clunky and hard as the N95 we often see display. Been wearing Air Queen Breeze (non Breeze) from Korea and they are so light, last longer because they rely on nano filtration instead of static which makes less prone to degradation from oil and water. There are many others, but I think the more models people see being displayed that are legit and light, the better people will protect themselves. Prices have dropped a lot, too.

@rooowtwx3 жыл бұрын
the valve/vent on the N95 basically defeats the purpose of wearing N95 in preventing spread though. That should be emphasised because the vent does not filter the air expelled by the person wearing it.

In fact it shoots it out under pressure, spreading it further.
@iangraham8713 жыл бұрын
I think she did emphasise it but possibly not early enough - maybe the third comparison should have been with valved N95s? In most cases in workplace settings, N95s are used to protect the wearer (hence the term PERSONAL protective equipment) so the valve helps in reducing burden when exhaling.
@telengardforever77833 жыл бұрын
WRONG. a valve does NOT defeat the purpose of a N95. The N95 is still perfectly protecting you against all the anti-maskers. I live in a state where masks are basically outlawed, so why should anyone care if my N95 has a valve?

Not gone through the comments, but to anyone claiming they cant breath with any mask on… I’m ex army, the S10 Respirator was a much harder thing to breath through than the N95s, which are harder than a surgical mask, think the difference between driving a small car on the free was as surgical mask, and a semi-trailer combination through a tight urban environment being the S10. A soldier is expected to perform almost as well with the S10 on as without! The breathing issue you’re experiencing is mainly psychological, there is NO detriment to your O2 saturation and practically no resistance to physical breath in a surgical mask

@@glasshalffull8625, my point is this, the resistance a surgical mask Actually creates, as opposed to is perceived, in almost negligible for most people. I know several whom Have breathing issues that wear them, mainly because those issues make them more vulnerable. I have yet to meet a vocal anti masker whom actually has a breathing issue despite what they claim; (watch em run from cops & security sometimes). I know that for some, the psychological effect is too severe, usually but not exclusively connected with other MH issues. @glasshalffull86252 жыл бұрын
My point is that everyone is different and as you pointed out it is “harder” to breathe in the masks and now they’re encouraging harder to breath masks that are even more uncomfortable. In my career we wore masks for certain tasks and it sometimes caused you to overheat and it certainly runs you down. We took more frequent breaks to keep our quality up. So, there is a ‘real’ physical detriment to masks and we can both agree that there certainly is a psychological detriment to masks if you feel like you cannot breathe properly. (Actually, sort of reminds me of the Chinese water torture or a mild form of water boarding). The curios part is that for two years cloth masks were fine when they do absolutely nothing. Surgical masks help about 17% and we’ll have to wait for the results of the N95s. (BTW-both the surgical and the N95 are designated as single use and should not be worn for longer than four hours.)

From a fellow health & safety professional, thanks for this video, which debunks a lot of the myths about the different types of mask (N95 = FFP3 in UK). What the general population don't often realise is that the face-fit test is crucial if you want to protect YOURSELF from aerosols. Sadly, even healthcare workers in the UK were not always fit-tested when being asked to wear N95 (as an outcome of a risk assessment), which led to increased infections. If everyone wears surgical masks, everyone should be OK. N95 and FFP respirators are for respiratory protection, while surgical masks only prevent the spreading of droplets. Although they can provide protection against aerossols, it's a very limited protection, as it doesn't filter most particle sizes. Surgical masks are not supposed to and should not be used as a measure to prevent respiratory disease transmission.

Hi Damian, I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news to your beard 🧔🏻 but N95’s are supposed to worn when you’re clean-shaven - otherwise you’re not going to get the 95% filtration rate benefits. So, the way you’re approaching it isn’t conventional, but could provide some benefits if it’s able to seat fairly close to your skin since it’s going to gap less than a surgical mask. Is it ideal? No. But can it offer some benefits? Possibly! I uploaded a video on comparing face mask types that may be helpful.

Then in airplanes or trains dont look at person next to you when sneezing. Wash hands. Your hands touch many things and is one way when you rub nose or eye to get virus into ducts and nostril. If it goes thru mouth or nose it can go thru lung. If it go thru stomach acid will destroy virus. But lung will cause pneumonia. Also virus can stay alive for while on surface so prevent touching face too much and wash hands often or use hand sanitizers before rubbing face.

I have seen people wear 2 masks which makes no sense as there is gap between your face and its hard to breath with just 1. Also same novelty as filter between masks. N95 masks should be more useful than surgical masks as it filters 95% of particles. Problem is finding them and also reusing them as they are hard to disinfect. There is alot of scam. Also there are videos explaining pro and con of masks. This one is good but the video doesnt explain particle droplets can still get thru alot of mask or that some degrade if wet or reused too much.

Also theres video shown that 3-5 ft distance even with mask in there is droplets. Thus maintain social distance when youre unsure of sick people around. Its much harder on busses and airplanes. Even worst is dirty tables at bars, cruise ships and hotels where staff doesnt clean. Treat even blankets on airplanes as dirty. Bring your own wipes and hand sanitizers before sitting down at any public area. People will look at you weird but stay safe and socially distancing helps even if youre borderline germophobe.

The problem with n95 mask is that you need to test fit it. Because of how tiny the filter holes are, if you don't fit it properly, you will not be breathing through the mask but instead through the gap between your fat face and the mask. Just look at how people are wearing their masks on street, even chin diaper is a thing. Just don't use N95 at all please, give the resources to the professionals.

Some have gone on the news to say the surgical masks are worthless especially against the new variant. Thank you for this reminder. We now have made elastic straps and fixed our surgical to be very snug by knotting the strings and stapling the sides, or stapling a small fold at the bottom. Then we put another non-fitted over that one. It is harder for me to breathe, and i get out of breath very easily now, but i just stop a second move away and catch my breath...beats getting covid and not breathing at all! I think i had it very early on in January 2019. I honestly thought I would die. It got bad suddenly where i could not talk and was too weak to even roll over and reach for the phone. When i awakened, i was so surprised! Then I began to get well. I remember thinking the sound coming from me was the "death rattle!" Really creepy and in my throat, too, so badly, i could not talk at all. If a mask might even help stop us from getting that sick, boy use them! We started wearing masks before that, but it was too late and i was still going to church and on the worship team. It was weeks before i could get enough air to resume. I had no idea it was covid. I had my flu shot and pneumonia shot and still got so ill. Since quitting church, and wearing a snug mask when we must go out, i have not been sick with anything but allergies and accidental gluten reactions. No colds, no flu...wonderful, but i sure miss people. But people in our community, people refuse to mask or vax, so i am trying to move. You can staple a pinch on the bottom under the chin area that really makes it fit snuggly better than tying. I found a KZbin on it. My son has hearing aids and glasses and cannot wear 2, i discovered. I made a snapped elastic band around the head, too, but that did not work for him, either. But we are going to N95s,but so tight ! Worse than the old ones. But they work. In 2 years, we have not been ill with anything!

It is not hard to find others that do purely quantitative tests. Might I recommend Aaron Collins, a mechanical engineer that specializes in aerosol particulate. He has done an exquisite job in appealing to the lame men and also those that are into data and numbers.

Aside from the fact mortality rate worldwide is logistically a hard thing to estimate and 99 is around the low end with 97 being around the high end, do you understand mortality rate isn't the only aspect of a virus you need to consider in terms of how much a danger a virus poses to a population? Can you think of another one or two aspects of a virus that need to be considered? Give it a try, brain exercise for you 🧠 💪

So basically the surgical mask is laughable and the n95 is constructive.
@idemandabetterfuture3 жыл бұрын
If your only concern is protecting yourself to the best extent available, then you can see it that way. The surgical mask is effective from a public safety point of view, protecting others in case the wearer has a air born infection. It's the polite, considerate thing to do, more effective than cloth masks, and when most people are wearing them very effective for reducing transmission. Remember, Covid in particular is most infectious at the beginning including before one has symptoms. (Symptoms come from your immune system fighting the infection, not directly from the infection.) Also, N95s can be sterilized of most airborn viruses by placing over a steam source, (such as a bowl of water in a microwave) or if you have a UV-C sterilizer. (UV-A and UV-B that we get from the sun takes hours if not days. UV-C works in minutes.)

Questions? How can all people afford N95? STOP the nonsense
@idemandabetterfuture3 жыл бұрын
That's why cloth masks, not as good for direct protection of the wearer, but still effective on a population level in reducing the spread. If you do have the ability to wear N95 its good to know, especially if you have a public contact job exposing you to high risk people.
